Might be some thruth about the "Spanish thing", but that doesn't mean that they don't like the Spanish neighbors, on the contrary. This is because Spain is a much bigger country and they often get included in Spain. Usually Americans confuse things, they call Spain to Iberia and forget that Portugal is a part of Iberia too. So they have the need to stand up and make their point abouth their differences. Both countries have strong and unique cultures, they belong to the same ethnic group and I can't tell appart Portuguese and Spanish people unless they speak. I've studied in Spain for some time and live in Portugal and I think the Spanish women attitude is pretty much like the Portuguese women one and I love it. Women rule here, they dictate the rules and we like that, also because usually they are priceless, beautiful and have strong personalities, they make great lifemates and friends.

Unfortunatly the mentality off woring about what others think is very much true. It's actually very annoying and it only holds us back, that's why we portray as "difficoult" and "colder". Personally, as a Portuguese woman, I've stoped woring about it to much, and I'm much happy. And yes our food is the best food you'll ever eat! 🇵🇹

The Jealousy thing I think is true. I worked for a company that had a Portuguese branch. Every time I traveled to visit the branch, while they welcomed me, talked to me briefly and we shared a few laughs, in the end, I felt it was hard to befriend the employees. Like they huddled in their own groups and spoke Portuguese, so I was left standing alone, even though I visited the branch several times. When some of the Portuguese employees came to our UK branch we gave them much more attention and went out with them. I don't know maybe it's a one-off. But that was my experience.

Did you speak to them in a Portuguese in Portugal? If not, did you speak in Portuguese in the UK branch? It's always easier to click with people who share commonalities, especially languages and cultures. However, I've never had an issue with feeling welcomed in Portugal, just my personal experience.
@hazzaldo
@hazzaldo 5 ай бұрын
@@gazerdaestrela in all honesty, no one can tell for sure what is the real reason. It's down to so many factors. People are complex. It could be down to the environment, the type of people, and possibly an aspect of the culture. They all spoke perfect English, and whenever there was a girl who came over from our UK branch, all the guys spent a lot of time chatting with her, especially the office was majority male workers (and she only spoke English). So I know it's not an issue with me not knowing the Portuguese language then. It's hard to say what is the real reason or if it's just one reason. But I think the aspect of being territorial about the tribe you feel part of (just so you maintain your social status within the tribe) certainly is something that exists in a lot of people's behavior. We're social animals after all, and being part of a social circle, and having a sense of belonging is innate to our survival. It goes back to the tribal aspect that made us survive as humans. Hence why we sometimes act overprotective over our own social circle.

Actually I learned that comparing the food from Portugal to the one from Spain kind of works as long as you are clear when saying:'I love Spanish food, but this (Portuguese) is sooo much better!' Apart from that it is really different. It is more spicy in many ways and an amalgament of Mediterranean cuisine and its ritch and healthy components. Actually the food of Portugal reflects in many ways a travellers history. You may consider Spanish food (and I love that already) as a good entry into Mediterranean cuisine, but the Portuguese is just giving it the extra pinch of salt it requires to really accelerate your taste buds. I know, when stationed in Europe some 35 years ago I did some travelling to Portugal as had a Portuguese girlfriend. Believe me, her cooking and the places we visited was just from a different world, in my memories I can still taste that food.

Portuguese women are beautiful and difficult, also hard to get because of her gal pals having her back, Portuguese are a social bunch. Also family oriented girls having them close on dates. I see their jealous of other women if their man talks to one, test of loyalty. Don't try to speak Spanish in a Portuguese 🏠 hold, they'll get insulted or offended.

It's just bcz we were rivals for centuries, each one wanted control the other, toke territory, tried take the others crown, by marriage or war, etc., and this was since middle ages. But, I think we don't hate Spanish people, in fact I think we feel very attracted by Spanishes in a sexual way. Portuguese man like Spanish women and Portuguese women like Spanish men. And I guess Portuguese people feel like a boss by understand and being capable of speaking Spanish (castelan in fact, there's no "spanish" language) meanwhile Spanish people get a hard time in trying the same with Portuguese language. But we are like brothers etnical speaking.

I'm a minority here and I know it. I admit it. As simple! 🤷‍♀️ Is not by accident that local men don't attract me, even if they try it hard, because as I said previously... they are not the problem, but the culture and mentality only! They are simply not my type, generally speaking.... (culturally, psichological especially and physical too... but, mainly is the culture, mentality and psichological system and context). We don't want that. We want MARRIAGE!!! 💍 👰 🤵 💐 ⛪ 🏠 Get it?! 😉 Though I can't speak for other local girls out there, yet I can speak for myself... I want not only a serious commitment, but further... I want a commitment that leads to marriage in a very short time because I don't believe in long term relationships or long term dates (to me that's simply bullshit and is a total waste of time that is basically cheating or lying on each other, because let's be honest... If you are really interested and really love the other person, you will surely do anything to get married as soon as possible and to be with your loved one ❤️ your "Princess" 👸, so that's why I say this... I really don't believe in long term relationships, but only commitment that leads to marriage and that's it!) and, for sure, I expect someone mature and responsible enough to take that responsibility seriously and we both perfectly know it already in advance that this situation will never happen because local guys can't simply take it and assume such responsibility, right!??? 😉 Let's be honest!... 😐 You guys are not socially and culturally prepared (at home 🏡 and in the society and social affairs) for such responsibilities and, at that point I must admit that it is not your fault (I mean, you guys... It's not local men fault) but, rather, is the local culture and mentality and society and that's the problem... 😕 And, I can prove it very easily, because, for instance.... In other cultures like Eastern European culture or Middle Eastern culture the local men there are way to different from you... Completely way different from you Latino Iberian... Get it!? 😉 Yap! 👍

@Joao Fernandes Olá! 🙂 🤚 Bom dia! 🌞 🌤️ 🌄 🏙️ Sim, Obrigado! I mean it!...). In direction to the Middle - East Arab Khalleggee 🇸🇦 Emarati 🇦🇪.... 🙏 😇 InshAllah! Fique bem. Felicidades 🤗 🌻 🌼 💛 💚

@Joao Fernandes Wow! O meu dialecto é Khalleggee, dos países GCC Arab countries in the Arab and Persian golf.
