"You are not an INTJ if you enjoy physically organizing." Ni makes us great at organizing things theoretically, in abstract. But things like cleaning my house, or my car, or checking my car's oil, etc, are the bane of my existence. I want to use my time working towards my goals, not doing stupid mundane things like car maintenance. I've found that most people who think they are INTJ, and are really into cleaning/organizing, are usually mistyped.

@@VanityOfEliCLee Agreed. As an INTJ, I keep my laptop and computer very well organized. My room, on the other hand, is a disaster. One other thing I've noticed is that I still know where most things are when need them; as if they are somewhat haphazardly organized in my mind. It seems that things have a logical placement (as in a reason for being where they are) but not an organized one. This is something my SJ parents can't seem to wrap their brains around.

I'd add: you are not an INTJ if you like strolling around a shopping mall looking for house decoration items or souvenirs, or going out with your friends just to do window shopping. Gosh, even typing it made me shrill in horror! Which brings a question: who would suffer more from doing that, an INTJ or an ENTJ?

Unless it’s a means to an end, in which case I can sit through it. For example, say I need to get to know a new group of people that I’ll be around for awhile. I purposefully burn out socially to establish myself in a good position and to get a read on who I’d like to be around/who annoys me. I will be very outgoing and smiley, but it is something I have to psych myself into. If I’m tired, I can’t put it on and revert to my resting bitch face and observational quietness. Plus, I think other people are interesting to understand. It depends on your momentary priorities. This sounded evil but I would like to say that I’m not a complete scheming asshole. :))

If a tornado destroys the INTJs house, then he has no choice but to repair it or find another house. But the point was anything an INTJ does deliberately is for a specific goal in mind. #3 is where I struggle the most as INTJ. Whenever I'm on social gatherings that involve an activity I just focus on the activity itself rather than the social interactions, and when I'm done with the activity I just wanna go home or do something else because I can't stand being there doing "nothing", while most people see it the other way around, they are there not for the activity but the social interactions, and after 28 years I still can't wrap my head around that, which makes me extremely anxious all the time, to the point I just lie to get out of any kind of social activity, which really hurts, because I believe I'm an honest individual overall. Telling the truth, that I just don't want to "waste my time" chatting about mundane things, does not sit well with most people, as their interpretation is that I don't wanna spend time with them at all. Huge problem for me, always has and always will.

I focus on activities where the focus is on the activity and any socializing is on the side. Namely, I go hiking with a group (the rest of my group chats a lot while hiking, but nobody notices if I remain silent most of the time), and I go to a workshop club (everybody focuses on the organizer). I'm good friends with this retired couple, but I realized soon enough that when the lady talks to me, she is primarily letting off steam, so I just shut up and pretend to be listening (it works out great for both of us). It's tough when my parents organize big parties though. Then I occasionally give into the urge to hide in the bathroom (I also keep myself busy by helping out so I don't need to talk too much with the guests).

But then I tried acting like a normal person who cares, and I got a great reaction. I get a response like "thank you for asking! ..." and I will think "awesome, they bought it". I get accused of being a perfectionist; but I don’t get manipulated by the small details. Priority and framework is much more important to me. I can be very detailed if I see reason to be. However I get agitated when someone will destroy a project, because they cannot let go of meaningless detail/fluff. I prefer to let someone that likes fluff deal with the fluff After the main framework is in place with a strong enough foundation to allow flexibility. Perfectionist drive me insane because I have received much severe abuse over stupid perfection when I was a child with no where to escape. Traditionalism; things that need to perfectly fit an ideal/image is not a task I enjoy. I supposed because everything goes through the filter of “will it work”. I tend to disagree with some intj stereotypes. For instance I will take things at face value, and abhor assumptions. However, I also see patterns quickly and put red flags together in a way; that I tend to figure out cons and cleptomaniacs quickly and they cannot figure out how I knew. I know because, ironically the details. Hehehe! I think the point is I don’t believe an INTJ purpose is perfection; rather it is “does it fulfill the goal in an effective, appealing way? They are aware of the details, but details come later. Can the idea meet the goal, and is it persuasive enough to garner support? Conspiracy theory... I don’t I don’t see intjs as conspiracy theorists. Maybe having the mind of an auditor, but conspiracy- its a hard sell for me. I would not waste my work time, lazy time, or personal goal time on a theory. If its from out of no where - and cannot be visualized, or traced concretely, then its must be for fun, because it isn’t for work. Just because the sun comes up every day doesn't prove that the earth orbits the sun, it is insufficient data for such a proof. Yet if we prove that the sun does not exist (somehow) then the Earth cannot orbit it. Bit of a rusty analogy, but hopefully u get it

Edit: If you could imagine a similar conversation except the one being ignored explodes and ends up wanting to cry, that's me as an INFJ. My sister's more 'calm' and starts retaliating bc idk how keep calm from frustration over how much she seems to block me out at times. However, I would never get mad at someone for trying to talk to me while they didn't realize I was studying.

@Atomic Tranquility It is true you need to be more willing to give back with an INFJ and have patience so that you both are friendly and understanding or else it may set off an offensive bomb in them bc you overstepped on something that gets to them after maybe even years of dealing with little things that add up to problems in society or human interactions. Yelling happened to be a thing in my house bc my mom is an ISFJ and can be stern even without realizing bc she considers her way to be the right way usually. A lot of times I feel I'll just be bulldozed all over again if I don't yell/whisper yell/be aggressive because there were so many instances where I wasn't listened to as a kid and it is so easy for someone to manipulate what I say and retaliate if they tend to be defensive for pride, for the sake of it, or for putting their point of view above yours, or for whatever. Don't even get me started on an adult saying "mas calladita te vez mas bonita" (the quieter you are, the more beautiful you are).

@Atomic Tranquility Interesting. I've never cared about "achievements" as much as others so school rewards felt hindering instead bc if I did do well, I was merely doing it for the sake of my future and for myself (plus the unecessary clutter of trophies that wouldn't do any good to the earth by existing anyway tbh). I would be above average but I don't like to study. We had valedictorians in my high school the year I graduated bc there was my friend, an ISFP, who'd participate in a bunch of things bc she likes doing stuff till it gets her sick even [she put up a strong fighr for rhe sake of being valedictorian], and a guy that had been born in India but raised here and very smart, his goal is to become a doctor. I was still barely within top 2% of graduating class of 700+ students, perhaps shy of top ten, but I only took classes I wanted at the right times to require less effort of me. I'm in an honors program in college, but still find ways to make each semester as easy on myself as possible and I get to be lazy LOL. I never studied and got a 22 average on ACT 🤷‍♀️ met the necessary. I am a terrible "test taker" btw. My mom was valedictorian in her high school in Mexico having been an ISFJ. Mhm, she's a very rewponsibility-driven perfectionist. I never had issues academically, but there's not really a reason to go for the top unless you yourself want to push your limits regardless of the outcome. I had art all four yrs of high school, a good "free" period. The endless aims of the INTJs ~ Nathan
@hlsk1111

Reading between the lines: as an INTJ, I noticed after years of "connecting the dots" that when I read between the lines with people's intentions I'm often wrong , but when I do it regarding concrete problem solving or situations, I'm often right. I think it's because of Fi as a third function - with people I project my own feelings ont them with my Fi, whereas with situations or problem solving I use Ni and Te and stay rational about the whole thing. That kind of leads me to my second point: INTJs not taking care of other people's feelings. If I'm not friends with someone, I won't give a f*** about how they feel, I might even leave the room when they're talking to me, for example. But if I care about them, my Fi will take the time to try and relate to their feelings, and feel for the person. Fi child can indeed be very moody, individualistic even, but it can also be extremely sensitive; and when combined with the upper functions, that Fi can actually allow the INTJ to put themselves in someone else's shoes. So if you see it that way, INTJs have the potential to be quite impressive empaths. But they have to let themselves care for people in the first place...

I agree, I don’t care about the feelings of people I don’t care about. But sometimes even with people I care about I will say insensitive things, not thinking about how they may feel. For example, my aunt asked me if I liked her outfit and I replied “No, your pants look like the colour poop brown. I would like them if they were black but the off-white and brown does look good together.” of course that’s not the most insensitive thing of said. I can also be very ignorant of other peoples feelings (but I do have the capability of being empathetic) and I get very uncomfortable when people cry in front of me, friend or not because I don’t know what to say. I’m also an INTJ

@@Bgrosz1 Almost all conflict is better avoided. It doesn't make someone not an INTJ if they accept that, because it's just factual. Deriving some pleasure out of conflict is a different issue entirely. Establishing what is correct is 100% silly and a waste of time if proving that you are right in a given circumstance won't lead to anything greater. A prime INTJ example would be being wrongfully arrested. A smart INTJ keeps their mouth shut at the scene and wins in court. A more relevant example would be political debates. Most INTJ won't go near a political discussion with a 10 foot pole because they have long ago accepted that changing someone's political beliefs is a waste of time, even if they strongly feel that other person is wrong. Now if you want to get into the realm of something like a board game, that is where INTJ desire to show what is correct has a purpose. Even if the purpose is only winning the game. Long story short I believe INTJ are excellent at conflict avoidance and conflict resolution. INTJ never starts the debate unless there is a clear reason, beyond just proving someone wrong.

@@blakebruner5038 , "Establishing what is correct is 100% silly and a waste of time if proving that you are right in a given circumstance won't lead to anything greater." I disagree. I see too many issues in the world that you can see getting worse and worse simple because people do not care about truth, but instead care about what the popular / socially acceptable position to take is. There is certainly a line. I'm not out there looking for every person I think is wrong and trying to start something, but there is a difference between "let's fight this out for an hour or two" versus "I'm going to put the truth out there. I can't make them accept it, but at least it was given a chance". "A prime INTJ example would be being wrongfully arrested. A smart INTJ keeps their mouth shut at the scene and wins in court" We part on this as well. What harm does it do to state that you think you are being wrongfully arrested? Maybe the cop has a wrong idea of what is happening and the information causes them to pause and re-evaluate the arrest. Maybe that is just a 1% chance, but how is it harmful? I wouldn't resist arrest, but you can talk and explain your side without making the situation any worse. And again, I think an INTJ values truth enough that the truth must be stated, both during the arrest AND in court. Truth is extremely important in just about all contexts, not just for the immediate situation but also a good thing for society in general. Avoidance of truth is a bad thing for society in general.

I've tested out as INTJ in almost every MBTI test I've ever taken, and I don't exactly agree with a lot of this. The first point I generally agree with, the "rabbit hole", although I (and most INTJs I think) am too rational to get swept away by nutty conspiracy theories. I may consider it, but I need confirmation before I believe it. The second point, I disagree with. INTJs avoid conflict and confrontation except when absolutely necessary. It's a waste of time and energy. If you're getting into a bunch of fights, you're probably not an INTJ, in my opinion. That would be some more hotheaded type. Laid back cool, because you know better, is INTJ. On the third point, I have consistently found people looking to me for leadership. If I'm unable to deliver, they resent it. I don't think that exactly matches up with the hero/mentor dichotomy. INTJs are strategists and visionaries. We are best in a leadership position where we can delegate to other types, like ISTJs. Getting there is the hard part. On process, I agree that it isn't primary. The goal is. But as long as a particular process moves you toward that goal, it's acceptable. When I feel like I'm getting stuck in a process that isn't serving a clear goal, that's when I get frustrated. Which happened in school quite a bit.

As an INTJ, I've found that enjoyment in the process depends on the process. Sometimes if the process weren't required, I'd do it for a hobby anyway. Other times, it is simply a means to an end, that end usually being greater competence or standing. Many times both intertwine because we often work on and around things we care about which inevitably ties it to our hobby (which came first, I wouldn't be able to tell you). What is consistent is that enjoyment is not at all a factor in the process, it stands apart; because regardless of how enjoyable the journey to our goal is, there is nothing else we'd rather be doing. Thank you for the last one, finally, someone said it as it is. To me, a process is just something to get out of the way for the sake of the result. I often even do things mechanically and don't think about them at the moment as I'm solely focused on the outcome. I'm not a workaholic at all. All I do is find the quickest way to accomplish something, sitting through hours of working for the sake of working with no results actually frustrates me and makes me feel extremely unproductive. While on the contrary, if I manage to do all my tasks quickly in the fastest and most efficient way possible and have hours left of leisure time, it gives me great satisfaction. I'm the type of person who'll do 8-hours worth of work in 3 hours, and use the rest of the time reading or watching KZbin videos on topics that interest me the most, and scratch my ass while my colleagues are still struggling to organize their process and meet the deadlines.

This was one of the most accurately insightful videos on INTJs I've ever seen! Almost uncanny. I've used the term rabbit hole to describe my thinking... No conspiracy theories for me, but just being in the grip of Ni. And I'm not the workaholic INTJ type, but the "damage control" idea fits well. I think "intentional" was a perfect word. I used to describe INTJs as "calculated" but I like intentional much better so I will borrow it 😊. I love the "life doesn't happen to them, they happen to it," it describes exactly how I feel... I don't want to feel like a leaf blowing in the wind through life, I try to make my own luck I guess. You are very articulate, the way you describe us makes me feel understood, which is rare.

As an INTJ I think you definitely hit the nail on the last point. For me anyway. I'm often so fixated on the end goal, and the clearer the goal, the more of a workaholic I become. I will skip meals so as not to break my flow, but it doesn't always mean I'm enjoying the process (in fact, I'd much prefer not to have to put so much effort and still achieve the same end result).

I fully agree with your statement's, more especially point number 4. Not being process orientated or rather say loving the conduct of devising the process as means of convergence towards your main goal. I would say it not about the detail of it, simply a dynamic simulated structure that devices flexibility towards a change a priority, as with age we grow to understand simulating your objective with external predictions may push it the edge of stagnation. So process tends to give a window in how to seduce any exterior barrier in limiting or throttling progress, as time is of the essence of life. It gives both intentional progress and foresight of the objective to manipulate thoroughly through any form of a resource that it intended to act upon, irregardless of the resource nature.

That last point is something I can 100% relate with. Thats why I have such a struggle with drawing and art. No matter how I imagine how good the end result will look like. The proces is hell, especially if you're a beginner. Honestly ''push through'' the process is an understatement. But the bad thing is that the process (especially if learning a hard skill like drawing, or learning to play the piano) is sometimes exactly the thing you need to focus on rather than where you could end up or what the end result will be. It could make ones experience of learning so much more pleasant. And yet I cannot push myself to do it. How can INTJ's focus on the process more, in your view?

Sometimes INFJs and INTJs can be mixed up due to their common top and inferior functions (Ni and Se). However I think the 2nd point in this list is the key to distinguish from one another. An INFJ cannot help taking into account others' feelings, even when he/she would like to ignore them (actually, oftentimes...).

I’m an intj and I always take into account others feelings or how what I would call ‘how they are likely to react’. The thing is sometimes I think that what needs to be accomplished is more important than trying not to hurt a few egos. Even if it feels bad sometimes you have to hurt people’s feelings and tell the truth. I sometimes decide it’s better to prioritise what needs to be said or done over temporary feelings.

Sounds pretty solid. Regarding process oriented, the process is a means to an end, but the end result must be a real and efficiently functional solution that is not a one-trick pony or unusable by anyone who attempts to employ it. It may not always be an easy solution, but it must be an effective long term one, because band-aids are the hallmark of weaker minds not thinking things through.

I have met 2 INTJs that stood out to me in particular, (because I was young and so were they and things tend to be laid bare when young). Both had had some pretty awful issues growing up and although they had confided in me, would have been deeply suspicious if I, or anyone else, had asked directly. One would just have laughed at the person asking, then distanced themselves from them, and the other would have gone down the bitter and twisted route and would have been likely to try and plot the questioners demise.

We can and want to tell the real truth maybe only to one person, maybe no one, it depends on context.Thank you so much.

Observation is a part of intuition category. when it says 87% intuitive for me, and 13% observation, that doesn't mean anything extraordinary. I tested and land on INTJ and I'm more Observant than my girlfriend who is an ISFJ, I don't just want to solve mechanical problems, but emotional problems as well. The main problem i run into when it comes to handling emotional problems is they don't think its a waste of time to feel the way they feel. just because I spend most my energy on my intuition, it doesn't mean I am not more observant than people with Si or Se as their main function, that's just brain activity. INT types have much higher brain activity than most other types because they have realized the benefit of putting their observation to work to get results. *EDIT: You said INTJ's are workaholics. I would agree, however the more Assertive you are the less impatience you will have= less work that needs to be done NOW. I manage my hyper brain activity by being patient. in the past, i have got things accomplished to quickly and get bored to fast, which, intj's know your dodging a bullet if you can stay stimulated. thanks.

I completely agree with the end. I have been repeatedly told I have a tendency to rush through things in order to achieve the end goal. You don't have to mentally prepare yourself for social events or get impatient about 'wasting time' with small talk. 3. You can watch a movie without accurately predicting the plot and character arc, criticizing the directorial choices, analyzing the symbolism, and discussing the subtext. When asked, you can simply say, 'What a great movie! I enjoyed it.' 4. You can listen to lectures and mundane conversations without drifting into a daydream or going off on a thought tangent. 5. You like to just 'hang out' with friends instead of planning an outing with a detailed itinerary. 6. You believe success is a matter of luck, rather than vision and sustained effort. 7. You can have fun without a purpose.

I believe that I am an INTJ and although I have doubts, I will still answer this assuming I 100% am one (even if I am not, still take it as a lesson wandering reader): It is only in the path after the first victory where the paving matters. If you do not have purpose in a goal or you do not care about arranging contingencies for the future consequences that its achievement or the achievement of those that come after might harbour, then you will not have to worry about the process. It isn't only about utilitarianism, it is about a calculated approach. Every time I tried to do what the ENTJs do aka plan halfway, in the long run it turns out I am either not content with the result or have failed. Each decision has its advantages and its consequences and planning and executing halfway of the journey will either have the consequences of each decision you made before working against you (something that could be avoided or even exploited if you stick to a plan), or the advantages of each decision will benefit what could be another effort/path toward success that more often than not you will not be adopting. Most importantly, as some wise men have said: knowing yourself is half the victory, and focusing on the present is something I sometimes wish i could do. However when you control the process, you control the environment and therefore manipulate it in favour of your plan ensuring its success which relieves the need to reflect on the present. Is ignorance of the present healthy? No. Could it be my downfall? Yes. Do I care? Absolutely not. If we are wired this way and we have no reason to rewire ourselves then we shan't resort to keeping ourselves happy with the methods of the populace. Similarly to how most people cannot do what we can or they simply don't wish to, the same goes both ways. But who can blame them, ignorance is truly bliss.

That last point is spot on. I don't LIKE the process of working on my goals. I like accomplishing the goal. I am usually in a better mood when I'm working towards a goal, but that's because I'm thinking about reaching it. The process is a necessary evil, that's why INTJs are so obsessed with efficiency. Make the process easier, faster, more intuitive. The goal is all that matters.
