The Quick and the Dead is a 1995 western film directed by Sam Raimi and starring Sharon Stone, Gene Hackman, Russell Crowe and Leonardo DiCaprio. The story focuses on "The Lady" (Stone), a gunfighter who rides into the 1878 Wild West town of Redemption, controlled by the ruthless John Herod (Hackman). The Lady joins a deadly dueling competition in an attempt to exact revenge for her father's death.
Writer Simon Moore's script for The Quick and the Dead was purchased by Sony Pictures Entertainment in May 1993, and actress Sharon Stone signed on as both star and co-producer. Development was fast tracked after director Sam Raimi's hiring, and principal photography began in Old Tucson Studios in Arizona on November 21, 1993. Distribution duties were covered by Sony-owned TriStar Pictures and Columbia Pictures. The Quick and the Dead was released in the United States on February 10, 1995 to a dismal box office performance, and received mixed but generally favorable reviews from critics.
This was Woody Strode's final performance (the film is dedicated to him), as well as the last theatrical release of Roberts Blossom.

There's a brief scene later in the film in which Herod is cleaning his guns in preparation for his fight with Cort. He's wearing glasses, he's not wearing the corset that makes him look slim to the outside world, and his lower lip is tremoring. He IS an old man, but only where no one else can see. We learn a lot about him from that short scene!

Good eye! Not a lot of people notice those sorts of character building scenes unless they’re blatantly in your face! There are quite a few of those type of visuals in this movie! The sound effects in this movie deserve an award -- the jingling of spurs, the tick of the town clock, the strike of a match, the flame igniting, and the sound it makes as it's flicked away, the smooth sliding of a gun into its holster -- even the subtle sound of a mustache being combed -- all used to stunning dramatic effect.

@@FaithPvP Isn’t it ironic how the most important shot Ellen had to take in her life had nothing to do with her being fast because she had all the time in the world, plus three shots meaning three chances to save her fathers life. All she had to be that day was not fast but slow, steady, and accurate. Which she turned out to be the complete opposite lol. She should have aimed high to test the water since she had 2 more tries after the first one but nope she shoots her own father directly in his third eye on her first try lmao. It was an amazing and impressive shot if her intent was to kill him but the fact she was supposed to save him and shoot the rope but instead instantly shoots the middle of his forehead, I think it’s safe to say that’s the worst shot anyone has ever taken in the history of shooting. Even for a little girl who has never shot a gun before, to be that close and have 3 chances I’m surprised she ever picked up a gun again after that epic fail which resulted in her murdering her own dad 😭😂

I just realized the first place Herod shot Hanlon was in the thumb; this after mentioning a little bit previous to this scene he heard Hanlon had accidentally shot a young girl’s thumb off with his horse/card gun trick. So this was both a symbolic revenge from Herod, maybe implying he had some sort of standards, but also just yet another way Herod humiliated Hanlon.

You can tell from the fact he was only a second behind Hackman that ace was good. Unfortunately an all to common story, let his reputation grow and lived off of the fact a good bluff beats skill 9/10 times. Probably once was someone to reckon with

Star Wars Count Dooku:"you must break them, before you engage them, only than will u ensure victory and have your trophy" This scene is a perfect example of psychological warfare. After that little chat Aces chances of winning the duel went from 5% to 0%.

Nobody realize Ace fired early before the clock?? He was shock and so afraid got busted lying about killing the Terrans Brother when he finds out he just claim other people deeds/tribute, Herod is the one that killed the brothers. He attempted to cheat the rule to silent Herod and fired early but Herod still faster than him, even giving him a second chance to draw with left hand.

Did not take notice to this before but they are actually doing this in a studio with green screens behind them. If you look really close you can tell especially at 1:32 where Gene Hackman is shooting at the ground, only him and the man on the right are on set.

When I first watched this movie as a teenager, Didnt know the horrible fact that Ace Hanlon's right thumb got blown away by the first shot from John Herod... only realized that by pausing it and taking a close look

If you watch after they all strip him under his sleeve was an Ace card they left behind. It's those details that make me rewatch this movie.

Oh fuck "Stone Cold" That movie was filmed in my hometown in the hospital scene. No lie! It was filmed in between Pensacola FL, Mobile, AL, to Pascagoula, MS to Gulfport. Surely The Boz is easily an equal to an Alien, Predator, Terminator, and Pumpkinhead. Lance Henrikson was also Frank Black in that old show "Millennium" he was the same character Mulder went to see in the Psych Ward on X files. "Frank Black' saw crimes through the eyes of a Serial Killer, so he was trying to solve the murders before they happened. Man I miss 80's and early 90's VHS days.

Yeah but he ends up losing at the end of the movie to an actress who's entire claim to fame is a single scene in Basic Instinct where she should've been wearing panties but wasn't. That's a reduction of at least 3 points, and quite possibly more. If she had won the fight using some distracting, leg crossing technique that also incorporated missing underwear (and hopefully a Brazilian bikini wax this time), those points would be restored. 🤣

Seems this comment section is filled with die hard gritty western fans really, really hating on the fact this is thoroughly a Sam Raimi movie. If you picture it literally co-existing in the Evil Dead universe just completely unrelated in every other way it makes a lot more sense. Hell Bruce Campbell even gets a cameo, it's Ash's great great great great grandfather!
