I've often wondered about the wisdom of these convoys. As a lay person, it seems to me that if you wanted to know which particular car to target then it's a fair bet it's the one between two police cars taking the route the met just cleared of traffic.... Seems to me that it might be rather painting a target on it and a low-key-as-possible approach might make more sense.

Agree with the odd and unexplained delay that inconvenienced so many other traffic users going about their lives as best they could. The individual officer seemed to be on an unenviable "hiding to nothing" being placed in that position. Anonymity in travel for political leaders might serve just as well as these ostentatious public displays.

For people who work in Central London (as I once did) it's an everyday occurrence. It can be high-profile or dangerous prisoners being taken to court, the Prime Minister, visiting presidents and premiers etc. I wish I had a quid for every time I saw the late Queen gliding through the traffic. There's an argument that if people insist on driving through Central London they should expect traffic jams and delays. I had a bet with someone from outside the M25 about the speed of using public transport in London because they said a car is always faster than buses and trains. We set off at the same time, me using one bus and the tube with one change, her in her car. I got there nearly half an hour earlier than she did. Kerching!

That was the most disorganized closing of a road. They needed more officers. I have through this trying to get home when either the vice president or president has come to my city. They even shut down intersections that go over or under the route. Each spot closed down has multiple police cars.

There are people would love your idea. The leader of a country riding in a unarmored car with a couple of armed bodyguards driving in regular traffic, get caught in a traffic jam. Then, a butch of armed assassins run up to the car and killed that leader and his/her bodyguards. What would happen after that? A war starts between those two countries. That's how World War I was started because of an assassination. Your idea was great until many leaders were assassinated because of lack of security. That's why traffic is stopped and cleared and that many vehicles are used to minimized the threat of assassination. Every vehicle in that entourage is armored and have all that security is necessary to protect that person. Look how many vehicles the President of the United States have because is not because of the person, because of the title he/she has at the time.

That’s why we and other civilised nations go to such extraordinary lengths in terms of security measures to ensure their safety. If the PM of an EU country as important as Poland had to get stuck in traffic, it would cost the UK, Poland and the EU hundeds of thousands, if not millions in taxpayers money. These are the people who keep the economy running. Best not to have them sit in traffic. Also, they are at more risk than you are in terms of safety so this protocol is essential.

Firstly, the UK suffered huge losses when Polish people returned back to their home country after realising that they will have a better life in their home country after brexit. Secondly, it not a scratch. Poland provides key raw material imports to the UK as well as services. It is quite complex. A high level of respect is required either way. The brits would expect the same in Poland.

In my country the convoy will be about 10-15min after traffic stopped, sometimes more sometimes less, quickest ones were 5min. No country can afford afford to let a VIP convoy get stuck in traffic and become high value target. Their routes are all pre-planned days before. Pre-planned allows the traffic policemen women to get to junctions to prep. If they know the convoy would pass this junction at around 3:05pm they can do their thing 5-10min before hand efficiently. The video seems like an unexpected action or change of route.
