This is so true about cinnamon and gnats. This year I walked into my greenhouse and there were about 300 gnats flying in the air. To my shock and amazement of seeing this happening I knew it was war time against the gnats. I tried so many things and came down to what worked for me. I went out bought some sand and poured the sand on top of my dirt, they did not like that and they left, but some of them were already buried themselves in the dirt and a few came back. I heard about cinnamon and boy did they hate it !!! I never knew how hard it was to get rid of gnats and how great cinnamon was… thank you for your info also…

I love this info - Just today I pruned some tomato branches from the bottom of the plants soI could encourage air flow and discourage blight. The cuttings looked so healthy- I hated to throw them out. So now I’m going to use the cinnamon as a rooting compound and plant them in good soil for cloning my tomato varieties! Thank you bunches and bunches!🪴

@tomh87823 жыл бұрын
can you use any type of organic cinnamon powder as an anti fungicide for my indoor or outdoor garden plants? Why I am asking is that it seems there are a few different types/ varieties of cinnamon such as; Cinnamomum zeylanicum (often referred to as true cinnamon, and has the most clean and desirable flavor); Cinnamomum loureirii (widely coveted as a premium Saigon cinnamon from Vietnam); Cinnamomum burmannii (the most common cinnamon in the grocery store); and Cinnamomum verum (also known as Ceylon cinnamon). As my local supermarket in the UK here only sells Ceylon cinnamon powder.

Sorry, perhaps it worked for you however I have tried cinnamon for gnats with my houseplants and it did not stop the little suckers. I seriously tried it too! All the plants smelled good however the gnats did not get stopped. I stopped them by alternating with Peroxide Mixed with water and alternating Neem Oil and of course mosquito bits mixture. That got the best results. I have a house full of plants.

I just found out about using cinnamon around plants last weekend, when I saw it sprinkled in the potted plants at my brother's house. My SIL told me it helps keep ants away. Today, I saw big ants crawling on one of my flowering plants, and wondered about the cinnamon. Then now, I see this video. I will definitely have to try it now. I plan to sprinkle it around the edge of my patio, and around my potted plants. Fingers crossed that it works.

Which cinnamon? You have two different types of cinnamon pictured. The double roll of bark is cassia, also known as 'Dutch Cinnamon' or 'Baker's Cinnamon'. The single roll is 'True Cinnamon' from the Cinnamomom verum. True Cinnamon is great - cassia cinnamon (the one usually sold in supermarkets) is actually harmful in large doses, but good in small doses.

Regular cinnamon can be toxic to your liver though, i believe this relates to the cassia variety. Ceylon has a milder flavour but hasn't got anywhere near the harsh toxin percentage of the more widespread cassia...
@kidwolf00152 жыл бұрын
Fun fact: That particular toxin, which is called coumarin, doesn't disolve in water but in fats/oils. (It can also disolve in chloroform! ... but why exactly would you *want* to make a lethal toxin even deadlier?) What this means is that cinnamon tea made with sticks (with either variety) is actually one of the safest ways to consume cinnamon! Also, both varieties have coumarin. However it is true that the more common variety has sigificantly more... Coumarin is only harmful past a certian threshold, so that is why eating either a only a small amount of common cinnamon each day or a bit more of Ceylon is considered very low risk. It's not a toxin like heavy metals where an exposure of any amount is harmful long-term. Rather, like many other organic toxins, it's the frequent exposure of large amounts that overwhelms the body.

Warning: Cinnamon is one of the most common spice allergy triggers. Breathing, eating, or touching the spice can trigger an allergic reaction in some people. In rare cases, cinnamon may cause anaphylaxis, a potentially fatal, severe allergic reaction. Anaphylaxis requires urgent medical attention and is marked by a sudden drop in blood pressure, difficulty breathing, loss of consciousness, and shock. If left untreated, it can lead to coma or even death. My family member has this life-threatening allergy. Even the scent of cinnamon in a mall, in home cooking, in a room freshener, or in someone's chewing-gum can trigger a reaction. Make sure that no one you know has this allergy before you use it.

the cinnamon you smell in the mall or in room freshener is a chemical.. not cinnamon..
@tuppencepetey6 жыл бұрын
But if the smell is coming from a bakery in a mall like Cinnabon, the effect can be deadly. The cinnamon is real. My nephew's wife (let's call her Jane) was in labor with her first child, and a nurse was chewing cinnamon scented gum. (What are the odds?!). Jane went into anaphylactic shock while in labor as a direct result of the smell of the gum. Did the gum have real cinnamon in it? I don't know but I wouldn't risk my life to find out.

I fought with ants for many years Danielle, in the UK we only have small ants, but the nests were all over my garden and beyond, and ended up crawling through my windows, my garden was infested and I only used ant powder which actually they some how must have got immune to. That was before you tube , just keep trying the tips on here, meanwhile try and find the nest area or nests. I know how you feel Danielle, heart broken ... also the ants may be from some one else's area so just watch the trail and try and cut them off. put some cinnammon sticks around your soft stem plants for now. I hope eventually you lead them away, don't give up though. All the best, Cliff.
