Since Hetalia is technically historical (they're not human, they're physical representations of their countries), their personal relationship is supposed to reflect changing relations between the two countries (country and colony = an elder and younger brother (ah, mercantilism), American War for Independence = maturing US, followed by a pretty big disparity between the two until WWII and the 'Special Relationship', which is where I believe most people get the idea of them as an actual couple).

The 'Special Relationship' is actually really interesting because it's something of an anomaly in international relations. For two countries with such a tumultuous history, the US and the UK are surprisingly close and reliable allies (which could be explained by their shared culture and language, though there's still the fact that the UK doesn't really share the same relationship with say, Australia, nor the US with Canada. The balance of power probably has a lot to do with it too, actually).

@KonaKingUK I know, but occasionally the creator Hidekazu and many in the fandom refer to England as the UK. Also you very rarely see the pairing referred to as AmericaxEngland simply because it is shorter and easier to refer to them as USxUK.

This video made me cry because it made me think of how much I want an older brother and if I did, I'd want him to be England. Hetalia is so weird. If S. Korea didn't disprove my theory, I'd say if everyone watched Hetalia, we'd have semi-world peace.
