My only comment would be that every time you hunt with any detector you miss stuff because of the lack of overlap in your swing or the speed of your swing or a myriad of other issues that are not related to the detector but to the person swinging it. My gut tells me if you go back over that same path with either detector on another day you will find more things that you missed.

Interesting comparison test. Though I've not used the Deus, I have used others and settled on the CTX. While I agree it is a bit heavy, it's so well balanced that I have no problem swinging it for 8 to 12 hours. As for picking up small irregular objects, I've had no issues with it and have recovered deep items others have missed in heavily pounded areas. The recovery is a bit slower than the Deus, but there is the fast recovery setting which helps when needed such as in trashy parks. There are many things that may need to be done to set up the ctx correctly for the area being hunted, but when it's set right, you go at an even pace and overlap swings a bit, it's rare that anything is missed. One huge advantage is the CTX being sble to "see" multiple targets and unmask items due to its FBS capability. I've gone to places where people have detected the same place that very day ahead of me, yet I still make finds they cant. I can also go places other machines are unusable such as under high voltage lines where the EMI would disable any lesser machine. Thanks for the video, and maybe later you could do a comparison in a test garden with identical targets and depths. Good luck and happy hunting!

@oldplucker14 жыл бұрын
Chill Bill yes the CTX is heavy but deep if used correctly. All the guys in the UK are getting NOX 800s I am still learning mine after 9 months, but I think lighter machines are the way to go. Cleggy is 6ft but I see he still gets tired. I will try out a Deus when I get back to the UK. I think having a few machines is a good idea. I have found stuff with my Garrett 400i that the Nox missed and vice versa. It depends on the scenario too.

Tests like this are really not a good indicator of which detector is better. I can take any upper end detector and go to a field and find stuff that was missed by another detector. The only way to compare which is best is to literally swing both detectors over each object found. It is best to have two people so that each detector finds an object first then it is checked by the other. I would not want to wave a 3030 around all day, probably out me in traction....
@ChillBill1 Жыл бұрын
The other issue is hearing... if the sound a detector puts out is in part of you deaf zone, then you wont find much. Light and screechy does it for me. :)

Same land, different day, different soil conditions - results are so variable and you'll only know which you prefer for certain land conditions after 6 months or so. On cultivated land I'd go skimming with the deus and for proper undisturbed pasture the CTX would be my choice. So glad you haven't gone down the air test route as single frequency machines generally trounce the FBS machines on air tests. I saw some a-hole in a video a while back 'proving' to me that the deus could detect 6 feet deep because he cranked it up to the max and could detect a heavy wire fence in front of him - total lack of understanding about detecting there and the machine was sounding off when he breathed on it, lol. Seen so many 'reviews' recently which simply comprise of simple air tests too which are total crap (and very misleading). How the machine performs IN THE GROUND, long term and in a range of different conditions is the only judgement on the machine's ability a proper review should contain. Glad you're doing it the right way - actually detecting unknown targets in varied conditions and continuing your investigations. I for one don't mind hearing your developing thoughts as there's probably only about 5% - 10% difference between them on different sites. Identifying which has the edge in different conditions is never time wasted. GL&HH
@ChillBill18 жыл бұрын
+Pondguru Outdoors I think air tests are nearly useless. An important aspect is the cybernetics of the machine, ie how it interacts with the user. Its often the nut behind the headphones that needs adjusting.

+Chill Bill I hear you there, man. Some people are so loyal to brands they won't accept any criticism of their machine. I'm about as far from a fanboy as you can get as I have machines which I consider to be the best for very particular types of hunting - 2 from Minelab, 1 from XP and one from Garrett. No machine will do it all.....at least not yet.

I hear this argument a lot comparing the CTX to Deus which I use both of here in California. Different tools for different jobs I've always said and there's really no comparison. Out here the Deus can't come close to the CTX depth or target ID/tones and the CTX really does well through the iron ridden areas. However my Deus comes into play is very high trash or high iron areas and without a doubt will do better in those conditions on any given day. The fact that the Deus is wireless, lighter, and more compact is irrelevant to me personally but I can see where certain people might appreciate that. Both are fine machines! On the beach my Deus is hit or miss and I much prefer the CTX, I also love being able to detect in the rain or underwater with the CTX. I wouldn't trade either machines for anything because they are very good and doing the individual things I need both units to do. People have been making these arguments forever it seems which may spawn from the fact that most people only can afford or want to buy a single unit therefore they want something that does everything. No 1 machine does everything with great efficiency IMO. Detector "A" will find things detector "B" will miss and vice versa. Anyways sorry to ramble just my 2 cents on the topic.

Deep setting for the deus that matter are reactive 0 being the deepest but slow swing 1 for faster swing with less depth in air but could go deeper at 1 in ground and sensitive 95 or higher

CTX is deeper, better discrimination, stable, no fake signals, no coil sensitivity on touch, FE-CO, automatic GB work werry well, i found more celtic coin (obol) on iron infected sites with CTX, but information on display is perfect. And yes CTX is not for the weak, but the hard is definitely not, GPX is hard. the experienced CTX operator and the appropriate setting do not leave behind any goal. with CTX I can go behind Deus and still have goals that have passed at high speed. I would say that if this video is not a joke, you are obviously totally misunderstood by CTX, and that's why CTX people are selling, Deus is a simple, fast and lightweight hobby detector, but CTX does not belong to it.

This is all well and good but without comparing targets with both machines it's a moot point as you can easily miss stuff, also how were the machines programmed, there are definitely better programs out there than the stock ones on both machines.
@ChillBill17 жыл бұрын
You can tweek both detectors forever but I judge them on what the designer reckon is right. Testing on known targets is a poor test. It is what you get to find on a trip that counts and that is as much about user friendliness than electronics. At least for me the Deus wins on user friendliness alone. Unless you are in peak physical condition its impossible to swing the CTX for 6 hours but even for me the Deus is fine all day. If the machine is a fat clumsy lump then whatever the coil and electronics are, you are going to miss a lot of stuff because the device is cumbersome. The CTX is cumbersome. I own both machines and the CTX is collecting dust. In a field back to back I find more with the Deus per hour and I can swing for at least twice as long. The results are clear cut to me.
@Flossyrockstar7 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately Bill the designers tend to design detectors for the American market as its the biggest one where they don't dig ring pulls or foil if those are discriminated out you will miss bundles in the uk and europe, as for tweaking for ever, minimal discrimination, smooth audio, noise channel 3 and boosting target volume will make the machine unbeatable on most sites. As for the weight try extending the lower shaft so that its about 2.5 feet away from you, I'm no muscle man far from it believe me but I can use the CTX all day without fatigue. With regard to original statement if you are going to compare machines you need to compare targets with both machines setup correctly otherwise it's a worthless exercise.
