You have to give border collies a job to do....as they get bored with no daily challenges.....my mom (from Scotland) had border collies and challenged them with daily tasks.....ie fetch the mail, patrol the yard and keep squirrels etc out of the yard, fetch firewood from the garage, take her for "walkies" into a nearby park, the dog bringing along and wearing his backpack (packed with treats, water etc) collect windfall walnuts from under the walnut bush, retrieve anything blown off the wash line, greeting any visitors (sitting then offering alternate paws) escorting my dad to and from his fishing boat, bringing in his bucket of salmon, etc etc They are the smartest canine known and unless you recognize that attribute with challenges, the dog will get bored and start to teach YOU things to do....!

I've had border collies for 18 years now. Once you have one, you're spoilt, and no other breed will do. Even my latest double-merle white, deaf dog is less work than another breed, now that he's growing out of puppyhood. (I see that others are reporting what they named their dogs. My ex-gf and I had a Springer-Collie cross, and because he had a blue eye, he was named Cobalt. Hence my current two collies are called Nickel and Copper. My ex said that I couldn't call the latest dog Copper because he's white. I said "What do you call a deaf dog? Anything you like, he can't hear you.")

I have a border collie named Blaze, he is super smart and funny. once my brother pretended to faint and Blaze just sniffed him, peed next to him the walked away. And every time i through a ball for him he runs away with it then i go to get it he picks up and runs away, and does that till i catch him. And he somehow can take his coat off by himself.

I do not find this funny. Carol Price explains in her book "Secrets of the Working Mind, (first of the trilogy "Border Collie, a Breed Apart"), that tail chasing and other similar behaviours could be "...a coping mechanism, to prevent themselves from otherwise being mentally overloaded by all the other competing sensory triggers in their environment...", hence a sign of discomfort, being the border collie a dog with an autistic personality due to specialized tasks through genetics...I warmly recommend the book🐕
