A flying boat, while definitely cool, is in my opinion completely unnecessary. And fairly immersion breaking, I think a much better option would be tame-able and rideable drakes through use of a saddle, much like how you can tame and ride a lox in the plains. This can kill performance in what we call "player lag" (multiple people occupying the same chunk, one player controlling the chunk and all others experiencing "player lag"). The point of needing a means of flying is very good (and you can in "cheat" mode). I've played both Minecraft and Valheim with flying capabilities and it changes the game drastically in terms of giving you perspective, envisioning where you are, orienting, and really just appreciating the grandeur of the world you are living in. It definitely adds to the quality of the game. In Minecraft we just use the very slow moving Archimedes Airships and even that can be breathtaking at times in the views that you can see. Excellent video. I love this game and this world. It's my second home. Enshrouded is a close second but I think the random world generation of Valheim makes it feel infinite and more like a universe
@TheGovernorsJester2 ай бұрын
I've spent well over 300 hours in Valheim. I like that it is a game just lets you vibe and doesn't press you to go further than you want to go, like you mentioned. I spend a lot of time building, just to see what I can come up with. I do use the modifiers that they have added to the game though, so I can carry ores through the portals. And I mostly do this because sailing with laggy internet equals one torn up boat because the waves hits it too hard because of the lag.

A flying ship wouldn't be totally immersion breaking if introduced by Dverger components, but I'm not sure that's what the game really needs. Sea travel is a major part of this game, and I think adding a wider variety of ships of varying sizes and speeds would do far more to improve travel and world exploration.

I love Valheim. My only complaint is nomap mode: It's all or nothing. You either get both mini and regular map with all functionality, or nothing at all and good luck tracing any vegvisir that cover a good distance (Moder, Yagluth and Queen often are, and our favorite swamp beast may be). You could alleviate this with an external map tool, but that immediately gives away the entire world at once. A mod to allow the cartography table feels like a good balance. Also, nomap has you create paths and markers to keep your way. A large, steep mountain becomes a huge project just to find your way on it. Mining etc comes on top of that. I dread when my nomap play hits the mist. Loving no map (with table) and no portal though! It makes me interact with biomes more, making paths, setting up markers and building resting spots along the way.

It is not as punishing if you prepare. Just make sure to make a plan before you leave your base and adjust your inventory appropriately. As long as i go out prepared i find valheim extremely easy, including bossfights. The only thing i find that gives me a challenge is moving from one biome to the next. But even then, if you know the attack patterns it's still really easy if you stay calm.

Yeah, I would love to fly in Valheim. Could be ok with the game theme. From the Mistland biome you get magic. What's the point of magic if you don't fly with it ? 😆 There are sea serpents also. Sea serpent + wings = dragon, ok it's fine, let's go. I also tried Valheim thinking it wasn't my type of game. 150 hours directly. The music, the building system, the simplicity (except for food), and of course the vibe. This game has something really special. Again, nice video.

I really like Valheim but i kinda have to be in the right mental space to play it. In that, i mean running around an entire world knowing there's absolutely no other players out there but me. Im quite a social gamer & love co-op especially, but my problem is none of my friends like it or play it, except one who always disappears without saying a word whether it's a quick break to the bathroom or 20 minutes cleaning the kitchen or whatever. I've told him countless times that it drives me mad because im sitting there like an idiot not knowing how long he might be, but he never changes & so i don't bother with him anymore. I either play the game alone or not at all. I've tried modded servers with other players running around which feels a bit less lonely, but if you're still on your own it doesn't really change anything much. It's perfect if I'm in the mood to be all by myself in a game, but i rarely feel that way so i mainly stick to my favourite mmo FF14.
@Rooslahn2 ай бұрын
“You gotta be in the right mental space to play” is sooooo relatable! I personally go through this bipolar phase….where I play nothing but Valheim but then if I take a break I tend to take a long one lol and then have to have the right mindset to be willing to come back and finish where I left off😂 so I couldnt relate more to this comment😂 I’m very much “stay at home dad” in Valheim😂 I’m normally the one building villages and plenty of storage spaces for everyone else😂 especially if I play with someone (that is).
@sneezyfido2 ай бұрын
My solution to that kind of co-player was to run a server but not mind them too much. If they drop in to join me for a bit that's fine. If they drop out, that's fine. If they idle and die, that's fine too.

I absolutely love the Atmosphere in this game, the varied weather and daytimes, the cozyness at home. And building, subsequently i tend to try to power through the game because new biome means new building option. But peaceful as i am, that game can grind my gears. Mostly when i go into a new biome, then die in there and loose access to the good gear i used to get there and thus being soft locked out of that biome, because going in with bad gear to recover the good one is mroe often than not suicide. Last playthrough in fact, yesterday i got locked out of the mountains that way. At that point it was easier to delete that peticular world and character and restart, hint for anyone new. If you make new armor and weapons to go into a new biome. Do yourself a favor and invest the extra grind to make two sets of your best upgraded armor and weapons, You'll need it. I developed a special hatred against the forces that want to keep me and Odin out of that world.

I like the thought process behind the flying ship idea. For me, the ideal game would be a mashup of Valheim and Tears of the Kingdom. It would be cool to be able to construct custom boats and vehicles that can function as long as they have the necessary pieces. @@Rooslahn In the beginning of each world, you are fresh, new, and unimpressive as an entity. A boar is a formattable enemy, but a Viking has to eat =) Knowledge of the game and learning the mechanics are only a small part of Valheim. There are many different difficulty and world settings to take advantage of making each new world all that more dangerous or challenging... or both. As you progress though, your skills as a player increase, and your excitement of coming home to the coziness you long for is a real, palpable emotion. I get that from few games, but Valheim is in the top of a very short list. The building mechanic keeps me coming back as well. Every new house, outpost, or stronghold gives you a sense of pride. Some advice to new players, build often. Make safe places where there were none before your arrival. Make the world bend to your will, not the other way around. @Rooslahn2 ай бұрын
But that’s more gliding? Is it not? You can just glide down without taking damage?
@consciousobserver89232 ай бұрын
@@Rooslahn Yes, it is gliding, if you press a directional key you will cancel the glide and start falling. You'd be surprised how far you can go with a high elevation starting point. With an elevation of 200m or greater I can usually make it to the next island dismissing the need for portal or boat when using a catapult. With a friend and a harpoon you can go much much further than that. A friend and I built "airports" on mountaintops in the community server we play on. Honestly, I wish Valheim was better. I recently played through the game with my brother, and up to Plains the game is fairly good. Mistlands and Ashlands are horrible, boring grinds that don't add much to the gameplay. Why the hell is the end boss of the Mistlands a bug, when the narrative seemed to suggest that it would be an insane dweger queen? And why doesn't killing the boss banish the mists? And Ashlands is basically Normandy in hell. The game itself is pretty lacking in several areas. The game has very little variety to offer in terms of combat: no early magic, no dual wielding, only a couple of two-handed weapons, no real styles beyond just spamming the attack button. Your primary weapons are likely going to be sword/mace + shield and bow for most of the game, with very little ever changing. Swamps biome is a slog to get through with no other sources of iron, and the mountain biome is forgotten as soon as you have managed to get your first silver vein. The merchants don't offer many worthwhile goods, making gold and other riches worthless. Exploration is also fairly pointless beyond getting the resources you need for the next tier. The game misses tons of quality of life features, doesn't have a proper aiming system for melee, has a tiny map exploration radius, and doesn't have crafting from storage enabled by default, but those at least can be remedied with mods. For returning players there's nothing much more to be seen. The game is entirely linear in terms of its progression and the update pace is glacial. Mods are really nice, but they can't carry the game when the game itself offers so little. I dearly wish Valheim was a better and more full-featured, and more sandboxy game. I want to play more Valheim, but there's not much to be seen in it. :/

Wow you’ve got some time in it (I can tell lol) 😂 I will say, it is disappointing to know that the “dual melee system” doesn’t come in until later in the game( which is a bit out of place, yes 100% agreed !) it’s crazy to know about the bosses too! Furthest I’ve ever gotten in the game was “Plains” and ( I was really taking my time with it ) especially knowing that Mistlands was coming up. I personally find myself enjoying “the journey” in this game and I have always leaned towards “casual gaming”. I have close to 400 hrs (which is not a lot compared to some elites out there) haha but I’d say based on how much I’ve unlocked and how much time I have in the game…I’m basically a “stay at home dad in Valheim”😂😂😂 i I have also not tried a single mod & been mainly playing vanilla only. I am tempted to try the dragon mod, in order to save some of that headache you were talking about with swamps!

I have to disagree with you respectfully on a few key points. 1 - You can actually see an image of the bosses (a rough image granted) at the offering stones. What from the image would make you think it was an insane Dvergr queen? The Mistlands are the way they are to keep people Out, not be welcoming as the Dvergr that live there don't want others coming and freeing the Queen from her prison. 2 - I won't comment on Ashlands because you're right - it's insane. Then again aren't most biomes when you first enter them? 3 - There is dual wielding once you reach the Mountain biome, basically the 1/2-way point of the game (At least until The Deep North is released) 4 - You're going to carry a Mace/Axe/Sword+Shield+Bow because that's what Vikings carried. (Even the two-handed war variety: Warhammer/Battleaxe/Claymore) 5 - Carry your hoe with you and level the ground as you trek through the Swamp - this is a well-known Tip in, I'd dare say 99% of Valheim Tips/Tricks videos, you're working against yourself by not and thusly, creating your own problem. 5a - If you've left the Mountain biome after your first silver vein, you've missed the Frost Caves which add in the Fenrir enemies and thusly, Fenrir Armor set (Which includes a dual wield weapon - though it counts as Fists so that one even confused me 6 - You are 1,000% correct here. The merchants are horrible and it's the most complained about thing in Valheim (Since the Portal options were made at least - that use to be number 1) 7 - Updates... Look at the updates we have gotten and what they've added. Now ask yourself, are several small, less impactful updates nice? Sure. Are the big updates that bring days of new gameplay and grind better? Absolutely! (It's heavily stated that the original Portal "No metal ores" settings were basically just a time-pad for the game and they noticed, and they made it a feature you can turn off or on in the Settings of your world) 8 - QoL - Several have been made... but a targeting reticle for Melee? Do your hands have sights? Scope mounts? No, they don't. Does the Bow (a sighted weapon) have a reticle? Absolutely. So why would your hands have a "Sight"? 9 - The game is anything BUT linear and is entirely sandbox. You wanna spawn into the Meadows and immediately run to the Mountains, The Mislands, The Ashlands? Go for it. The game won't stop you till you get there by repeatedly killing you and sending you back to spawn. (Just like any other Sandbox survival game) 10 - As far as crafting from containers. I agree, it's a little annoying to have to carry, and likely encumber yourself to make one item at a time, but that's "Realism" in an otherwise fantasy game. 11 - Mods - "Mods can't carry the game." Oh I beg to differ. There is a mod that completely transforms Valheim into a true RPG (and even one that adds NPC villagers that will help you just like say, Dragon Age (they are NOT smart LOL )) I'm sorry to have to disagree with a majority of your comment. It was well written and well-spoken and I tip my hat to you, but the facts are, the game has shown incredible progress since it's early Alpha days. What I'm saddened by is that there may come a time when Updates will Only be QoL as the last Biome to be finished is The Deep North (and it's next). Then the team will move into another project. (Valheim 2?) but that could (and should) be at least a year or so away. Thank you Rooslahn for the honest critique of the game. Play at your pace, that's what it's all about. I typically power through the Meadows/Black Forrest until I reach the Swamp and then slow Way down! The Plains are unforgiving while you're working on your black metal gear/weapons/tools.

nah flying would break the game honestly, wouldnt be a good addition. otherwise, nice video !
@Rooslahn2 ай бұрын
Thanks man. It would only break the game if devs are incapable of that work. But i think these guys could handle it.

Why is the thumbnail for the video of a different game?
@silentshot43282 ай бұрын
It’s not a different game it’s just an artwork
@peacemaker20232 ай бұрын
It's a awsome game but you explore the same exact places everywhere you go it needs more pois to make it the best. That's why I liked 7 days to die the best.
@Rooslahn2 ай бұрын
What do you mean exactly by “you explore the same exact places everywhere you go”?
@OzzDrake2 ай бұрын
Every new Biome is a new POI in and of itself. And each has different things to discover. Up to and Including the Boss spawner.
@peacemaker20232 ай бұрын
@ozzdrake9335 ya but it needs more places to explore like castles, buildings, dungeons. The dungeons themselves like in the swamps all look the same. I wants some detail something that tells a story like someone or something lives there or once has lived there

I’ll be honest with you, Deadpoly isn’t doing it for me lol I tried to revisit it so many times after the new map and it’s still so empty and with no purpose.
