Gee thanks Gary Collins. I am from the UK, i have never owned a lawnboy, or seen one. In fact I don't even have a lawn mower BUT I can now sleep well safely in the knowledge that I could buy a lawnboy, clog it right up, and in a liqadey split, have it chouching again. Goodbye im off to find my bits 'n' bobs 😂

I still trim mow with an old Lawn Boy 5072, but use a 3/8 drill bit by hand only, it’s the second fastest & easiest way to get the carbon out as you have to pull the blade & muff cover off. Thanks for showing that!

I wonder if the cut in the end is there to put a piece of rubber tubing or something to make it a bit wider so it can hit the walls of those exhaust holes. Wire brush? It'd probably fall off and get stuck in there...

Im thinking that the notch milled into the end is there so, when working blind with the muffkin on, you have some feel for reference when you are through the hole. If making one, you really don’t need the roll pin. A shallow dimple would do for reference. Maybe a drop of orange paint in it.

I've got a mid 60's Lawnboy with a D-400 engine that I've bragged about on this channel a couple of times. Oh I said it started on the first or second pull, it had great power, it was wonderful. I hit a piece of firewood that fell off the stack and bent the crank. I pulled the motor off and pulled the cylinder off. It had a stuck top ring on a 2 ring piston and two of the 3 exhaust ports were plugged. I wonder what a good running Lawn Boy D-400 motor is like? Thanks Taryl. P.S. I guess you're supposed to clean those ports out. I had that mower for 40 years and never cleaned them once.

Yay, I'm so smart! I'm so smart! I'm in Group 3 (or is it Group W?) that is baffled by this tool but at around :03:23, when he said it was for a pacific lawn mower, I said Lawn Boy and I was right! This is expecially exciting because when I hear "lawn mower" I think walk-behind but Taryl often means riding lawn tractor. So I'm handicapped and I still got it right! Now to continue the video and find out what this tool is And what it's for! (I love it when there's a quiz!!)

This tool just game me a great idea to make a tool to hold the Car valves up while i do the stem seals. going to use rope but risk of a knot and jamming trying to get it out and compressed air that suddenly fails, i think a static tool like this resting on the piston and pointing up for each vale keeping it up when collets are released. I think there is a plastic version out there for small engines or car ones? Anyway i have a spare head on the bench and will mark and perfect the tool before actually using it on the cars head with piston at TDC.

Hey Taryl I'm a big 2 stroke afficionado but I don't do much with lawn stuff I'm a Powersports mechanic. What's the deal with the 3 hole exhaust port? I don't see the advantages of that. Seems they would have an oval or a bridged exhaust port which also wouldn't plug up so bad. Unless they wanted it to for service fees lol.

In the early 2000's when I worked at a Lawn Boy dealer we still got lots of those old 2 strokes in for tune ups and decarbon jobs. We would just remove the muffler anyways because they always needed to be burned out with an acetylene torch so while it was off we cleaned the ports as well. They burned real dirty at 32:1 and clogged exhausts were very common even if you ran Lawn Boys low ash oil.

I was made the home and garden lawn-mowing manager at the age of 8 years... and given the Antipodes equivalent of a Lawn Boy mower with the OMC engine and an alloy deck. I used that mower for 45 years before giving it (still working) to a workmate to cut his lawns. I used to replace the spark plug every 7 years and rotate the reeds every 14.... used the best 2 stroke mix oil possible...finally ending up with Stihl synthetic @ 50:1... I think I scraped out the carbon once early on..... then never again as it just didn't build up when decent 2 stoke oils were mixed at the "correct" ratio which got "leaner" with the oil as time progressed and the oil quality also got better. What did you hate about it?
