Great video. After checking around 20 other channels I was able to piece together the fragments that you actually put in a single video to cure my hook. One totally new confirmation that nobody else is giving on YT was the part on the two way miss - instantly recognizable!

You're the best! I have since 3 weeks ago(when i was at the top of my game) all of the sudden just lose my shit with all my shots being hooks, even irons. Tried it all, weaker grip, interlock(im overlap), focusing on movement, all but this little step! remember this was a big thing for me last year when i focused alot on my takeaway! Golf is such a psycho sport actually, everyone of us can randomly wake up with a tiny fault in our swing which in turn cause our confidence behind the ball suffer which in turn could cause you to change into a even worse tecnique and down the spiral it goes! When i saw this vid earlier today i knew that this was my problem for sure, drove to the range to start the change and bam, felt insanely good and natural again, a feeling i havnt had for weeks! From So CA: Thanks a million for the help Harry. I have been out of circulation for almost 3 years. My wife has been incapacitaed and I take care of her. I just hired a caregiver for 1 day a week which allowed me to play for the first time. I knew my first day would be pathetic and it was even worse that I thought. Over 1/2 my wood shots were severe low duck hooks. It felt like I was falling forward and my arms were racing around my body.

Excellent Job Harry on how to stop the Hook Drives! What you were describing is what I was experiencing today in my round of golf. My normal swing is in to out; however, today I think I was taking my hands too far inside and I was getting a lot of low hooks. I like your move of straight back and then taking the club "up to the sky." I know I was being too handsy and not getting enough left hip rotation all day which led to very weak shots. Good Job Harry!! Keep up the good work!!

I am a recovering "Duck Hooker" that can relapse. I am a very good player +3 handicap at my best but I have little kiddos now. When I get lazy and I'm playing badly, I am hitting a duck hook. One of the most important factors in feeling or conceptualizing how to rid one's self of a "duck hook" is to focus on angle of attack. It's also the least talked about cure for a hook. Usually you hear the symptoms of it but not the cause... closed clubface, swing path too far to the right, losing posture/early extension. That is all caused from the incorrect angle of attack. If there is one thing high handicaps should learn from great players it is their ability to control the swing arc...particularly the bottom of the arc. I start with teeing the ball very low with the driver and try to take a divot. I literally can never take a divot with the driver due to ball position. The difference from trying to hit down on the driver with it tee'd low and swinging up when it's tee'd high is the difference in the feeling for me. Not sure if it is still true but just 5-7yrs ago, the average angle of attack with a driver on the PGA tour was -1 degrees (that means that there are plenty of players that attack steeper than that). If you are hitting duck hooks, I can guarantee you that you are above -1 angle of attack. Great video and I hope my thoughts help a fellow hooker of the golf ball.
@harryshawgolf
@harryshawgolf Ай бұрын
This is brilliant, I love this concept, wow. Make a lot of sense, all to do with the attack angle and also you could also add in there the swing direction. Great idea teeing the ball low and trying to take a divot. You’re also right about the average attack angle, but the only trouble is you need speed to make this work. Players with Lower swing speeds will struggle ‘hitting down’. But if you have a bit of speed… perfect!!!

@harryshawgolf Yes you are correct. Older players STRUGGLE with turf interaction. Also, this is ONLY for people that hit hooks....as in snap hooks, blocks/pushes. This is not a tip for someone that pulls the ball. I have to make that distinction.

@harryshawgolf
@harryshawgolf 9 ай бұрын
No problem, pleased you enjoyed the video, I like the idea of slow back and faster through. But with the downswing (faster) it all depends on how you make the swing faster (this move shouldn’t necessarily come from the arms going faster. It should be how the body initiates the downswing to make the club swing quicker without adding tension to the arms. If you’d like me to elaborate on this I’m going to be revealing a new course on some of my latest videos soon all about the downswing so stay tuned.

Thanks for commenting with some info about your game with the driver, there are a few videos on the channel about this topic in terms of swinging more in to our, closing the face enough to hit those draws… Watch this video for a head start… kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqbYd6GpptSigsU but would also place an alignment stick in the right in line with your target line/ flag, and the golf ball, about 10 feet away from the ball. Aim to hit right of the stick, if we close the face too much = hooks… we’d hit the golf shots too left to start with.

Hi Garry, Thanks for commenting, it depends on how often you practice and work on these moves, if you're heading down to the range a few times per week you'll notice the changes much sooner. But quality over quantity is key, use this to your advantage and rehearse the moves without the ball and use the ball but slowly and build it up to full swings. This will help you make the changes quicker because it's easier to make changes at slower speeds. Keep me posted on how it goes, feel free to reach out on Skillest or email me.

I don’t think it’s the easiest way to encourage a more neutral club path. However if it’s something that seems to work for you, then I don’t see it being an issue. But if it’s more upper body tilt, this has a big effect on the club path, no so much in a good way.

Simple rule. If you think you are going to hook, you will probably hook. On holes where there is OB left I finally learned that the last thing in the world I want to think about is a hook. I want to be thinking both fade and the tees where I usually fade the ball. After awhile you will actually be lining up left, because your brain will have a hook locked out. Now these are the words of a somewhat accomplished player. I have had holes where I knocked it out of bounds left almost every time I came to that hole. That did stop until I mentally ruled it out. The brain does what you visualize first when there are a lot of muscles involved.
@harryshawgolf
@harryshawgolf 6 ай бұрын
Correct however if the clubface is called relative to the path, it’ll always curve and promote a draw/ hook ball flight. So even with the right mindset. We’re human, sometimes we can get unlucky and cause this to take place. Good technique and great mindset = good golf!

So I’m trying to add distance….I’m carrying 250-260 but would like 270-280 consistently and not occasionally. An instructor i saw kept telling me to get the toe around the ball. I don’t have a slice problem, I have a straight left problem. So why would he say that and does it help?
@harryshawgolf
@harryshawgolf Жыл бұрын
Interesting, to hit the ball further you would want to hit the centre of the face or yes alright out the toe but that’s only to reduce the spin rate and get more of that knuckle ball flight (pretty straight with not much curvature) but if you’re someone who’s struggling with the low hook I would recommend it because of gear effect it’s only going to make it travel more left. I would recommend focusing on what’s causing the hook in the first place, is it a reaction in your golf swing? Chasing you to close the face down or swing too far in to out? Or both? What do you think? If you’re not sure that’s fine, I’m here to help.

Don't listen to them bud... It's a 7 minute video ffs! If you want "to the point" go watch KZbin shorts, but if you don't have enough patience to make it through a 7 minute video without whining like a typical, entitled gen z twat, then you most certainly will not have the patience it requires to become even a half decent golfer. Probably one of those people who complain about the group ahead of you, while you tee off from the tips and hit out of bounds, take a couple mulligans, hole out with an 8, while you play dance music from your golf cart and play on your phone when it's someone else's shot 😂

@@harryshawgolf Hi and thanks for replying. There was definitely a massive improvement off the tee on sat so worked for me. I will need to get some practice in to get this to auto. But an awesome, easy explanation. I was telling the my team mate about it and he was hesitant to believe me. First shot....straight down the fairway!! He says " Reach for the sky" after it. He was impressed. haha Chipping is my worst. I am fine at home but put a flag in front of me and I fall apart. Very annoying. thanks again. KISS principle works great!!
