Hi David. I never heard of Ocea. Wight build rugged yachts too. Good combination British/French (like Airbus and Concorde) will be interesting. Great vlog thanks 😊

I'd never heard of Ocea before. That is interesting as an all aluminium, ocean crossing, low draft, explorer yacht seems the best of all worlds. Though I'd be worried about whether they could really weather the weather of ocean crossing like say, a thick steel hulled Bering would. I note one of the photos displayed here showed a large catamaran being built. A large ocean crossing, explorer catamaran would be most interesting indeed.

The Dashew-designed FPB is all-aluminum and nobody's ever complained that they're not tough enough. One of them was named Iceberg for a reason.

Never heard of them, I note that not all shipbuilders successfully transition into the yachting sector. Seems to be a great idea to focus on one sector that in itself requires particular expertise in that field. Given the French track record in building robust vessels servicing extreme environments in the commercial sector it makes so much sense for them to build ocean explorer superyachts.

They look very capable, and I was not aware they existed. They should do well with the developing explorer market.

Thanks David. The news that OCEA was merging with the Wight yard, totally forgot reading that. Boy, they design some pretty boats, don't they? And all the yards are pretty close to me in Guernsey too, handy for when I hit the Lotto.

Thank you for presenting this information. As many others, I too have never heard of OCEA YACHTS. Seems they have been around for years with no real advertising as the so called well known yacht builders have blanketed the airwaves with Advertising. I would like to see more information about OCEA YACHTS, and hopefully they would over their website in languages other than French. (Hopefully English). I have a strong interest in knowing more. Thanks again David. Hope you have additional videos on OCEA YACHTS.

I don’t know if you are still looking for a personal boat or not but if you are, you should look into Life Proof Boats from the U.S. They seem to be an interesting company that builds rugged looking boats.

Hello David!!! Wonderful video as always. I have heard of the Project Nemo, although to be honest I didn't remember what shipyard was doing it. In regards to the aluminum explorer yachts I look at what Arksen, VanderVelk and an honorable mention because they aren't 'explorer yachts', Lurrsen have done. They have made some great aluminum ocean going vessels with great range capability. Maybe you could arrange a visit or walk through or have Victoria and Rico or Nick make an appearance on one. I would love to see how they are built and what the construction is like. The flat deck of the stern with a towering superstructure reminds me of the CdM Flexplorer, specifically 'Aurelius' but also the Bluewater 72 somewhat. Some people see a massive beach club and I see a deck for a submarine, a tender, jet skis, sea bobs, etc. Lol. Any chance of seeing the Two Oceans 800 or 850 catamarans?

I've heard of OCEA vendredi.It's well known shipyard for the OPV for coast guards and navies especially for export market in Africa.
@patrickabas11122 жыл бұрын
Yes your 100% correct, I never heard of them. Looking at the locations it comes to mind that during the WW II these locations were used for naval shipyards with St. Nazaire being the one of the famous raid. They do make beautiful yachts but one question springs to mind. You mentioned a full alu yacht as an artic explorer. Would she even be able to get insured for artic exploration with a non ice class hull?
@HugoHugunin2 жыл бұрын
David, quick question: It seems that there is so much more talk about "Explorer Yachts". I'm curious if this is due to the KZbin AI [since i watch a *LOT* of explorer yacht videos] or if you have seen buyers moving in that direction. As the old saying goes: "bullxxxx talks and money walks", and I want to know if the dollars are walking.

The explorer yacht market is growing very rapidly, so I definitely cover explorer yacht more as it grows. In the next two weeks I shall also be reporting back from the Bering Yachts yard AND the Numarine yard...both builders of Explorer yachts. Next week's vlog though should be about a new model of Pershing...so definitely NOT and explorer!!!

He is a broker. He cannot simply diss the vast majority of yacht builders by not including them on any such list. Brokers have to be politicians to a degree. He could give you legit advice in private, but not in a public forum where a slighted builder might take umbrage.

Likewise, I had never heard of Ocea Yachts. I do like the exterior design of the Philippine Coast Guard ship. With a few modifications, that wouldn't be a bad ship to build. I've been looking at Metal Shark Yachts as an alternative to Damen, much rather, a way to get top quality in an American builder, by a partnering of an established European company such as Damen. I also agree with respect to the trans-pacific catamaran.

How much difference does construction material make on these explorer yachts? If memory serves, Nordhavn build out of fibreglass, a few (including Ocea) out of aluminium, and Bering out of steel. Presumably there's a large weight difference, but I was under the impression that weight is an advantage in these kinds of vessels?
@Zepherian2 жыл бұрын
Steel makes the boat durable and more collision and grounding resistant, aluminium makes the boat a bit softer but much lighter, and fiber glass is cheaper and also light, but makes for a weaker boat, maybe. I'm not in the industry, if I'm wrong someone correct me. Were I to buy I'd try for aluminum or a mix of steel hull and carbon fiber superstructure, which is probably the best of both worlds.
