The creative aspect is a big part of why I prefer entrepreneurship over the typical corporate tech job. Like you mentioned though, the latter can be very valuable for building up skills/experience (also money/clout/network).

So real. Love that part of entrepreneurship.

I also noticed that when some individuals get ownership of a creative part of a process, they hold on to it even when it's obvious that their ideas are bad or that they are not fit to solve the problem at hand. It's even worse when those individuals have a position of power over you, like a manager, a supervisor, or even a client getting too involved in the technical aspects of a project. It's almost impossible to have a meeting with them in the same room since they love to fling crap at the wall to see what sticks or interrupt others by talking louder about whatever idea just popped in their heads (like a chihuahua that won't stop barking). I just follow my father's advice of giving them exactly what they are asking for and save my creativity for my side projects which I actually enjoy (even the errors that make me stay up late). Don't give others your creativity if it's not appreciated.

So real. Gotta just roll with it sometimes when you realize you can’t influence some of these decisions and bide your time until you can or find those other creative outlets.

I agree with you and thats why i also wonder if i should leave it. Its too much «conveyor belt» work. Everyone is just doing a small part of the finished product. I sometimes wonder if this is the death to the industry. Back in the old days people used to solve real world problems they knew about with software. Today the gap is so big between those who solve the problems and those who have the problems that im not sure we are actually able to solve it in the right way any more. Just the project im on now and the designers and those who decides how it should work have no experience from the domain the customers are in and things that are very obvious if you know the domain are not even taken into account when making decisions.

This x 10000. I’ve seen wild disconnects over my not so long career. It really is a head scratcher!

Great videos, Evan! Thank you for making them and sharing your thoughts! What's your opinion on overemployment in tech?
@evanswildrantsАй бұрын
I think its reflective of the sad state of the industry right now. The fact that people can get away with 2 jobs is kinda wild to think about and only possible due to remote work. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@@evanswildrants I think some of people that doing it don't mean harm and trying to get ahead in live. Overemployment reflects sad state of economy and live this days as well. I'm really interested in watching your channel and seeing where your search will take you. When I turned 30 learned to code and switched jobs becoming a developer. Now 5 years later and with some experience in the field I'm trying to find my future path forward to avoid traps and pitfalls.

Appreciate the kind words and glad you’re resonating with some of the thoughts/ideas I’m sharing. Just want to be authentic and I feel like if it helps even 1 person, it’s worth sharing. It’s a journey, but you don’t have to walk alone.
