Watching weather on Madison, WI TV station this noon and they said still 4-10 inches of ice on most of the lakes in the area, but it's pretty rotten, ie. Not solid enough to safely go out on. So no bass spawning up here yet!

I had the same struggles. There was this 3 pounder Largemouth on a bed in a lake that i was fishing at. I used a swim bait and the fish slowly got aggressive with it after twitching the bait. After the 4th cast the fish picks it up and spits it out after i set the hook, and it does that for the next 2 times. But then after 10 min he ate the swim bait, let him run with it for a second and then set the hook.

Ive been strictly fishing big swimbaits for the last few years now, and i can say with certainty, that the caliber of fish has drastically improved...may not be cranking in a hundred fish a day, but ill take quality over quantity any day of the week. Something about that big profile, and super realistic paint scheme, it just triggers something inside them and they cant help but react. Any tactic that you would use with conventional tackle can be applied to fishing big baits...crawl the bottom when you’d throw a jig, rig and under spin when they are chasing spinners, big glides can take the place of jerks/cranks. its just a different way to approach the same fish that everyone else is after....except you’re offering something that they may have never seen before, and meanwhile the 20 guys before you were all throwing the same 3-4 baits at them.

Chicken nugget Slayer you want polarized and typically most anglers go with amber lens sunglasses, the best kind are ones that make you see everything in amber but the outside lens is green cause it reflects the sun the best while not making everything too dark
