Hi Rick. I'm in Alabama zone 7B. I have over 100 tomato seedlings already started, 36 of which have been up-potted today and more will be up-potted Monday. I have about fifty pepper seedlings that will be ready for up-potting soon with many more germinating I also have bunching onion and Creole White bulbing onions that have germinated, and a second batch sown last Thursday. I have many more seeds to sow as room becomes available under my grow lights, Fordhook Swiss Chard, giant red mustard, mustard, kohlrabi, basil, and dill. In about three weeks, it will be prime time for direct sowing seeds for carrots, golden beetroot, chives, parsley, and radishes. A week later is potato time! I just added 5 fruit trees to my garden, a Lapins Cherry, Stella Cherry, Bing Cherry, AU Rosa Plum, and a Yellow Gold Plum. I also want to plant two apple trees, a Honeycrisp and Fuji. I have plans, and am making space in my garden, to grow Wine Cap Mushrooms. I hate to admit it, but my garden is taking over my property. Next year's plans are for upgrades, rather than expansion. I'll be replacing clusters of grow bags with raised beds. And then we will see...

I'm in NW PA. Was 5b, now 6a. Frost chart says 90% chance no 32 degree temps after May 16. Last year I had 30 degrees on May 26.

Transplanted 144 Romaine lettuce plants this morning 2/2/24! Hoping to put them outside around March 15th this year. Zone 6

You transplanted or started, or did you mean up-potted?

Wow, 144!! That's a lot of lettuce!

I am so happy for you but upset at Texas temps. January with mid to late 70s temp is not cool for my romaine 😢 literally

So excited to start all of those plants! You're right--this is the most fun month! A friend gave me celery starts last year; I intend to start my own this year!

My father in law used wall of waters for Tomatoes and he was especially proud of his 4th of July tomato harvest.

I started cabbage, onions, parsley, and celery, and I began stratifying perrenials three weeks ago and will germinate in another week. I still haven't started leafy greens yet, but I need too.

I have a couple of cold frames that are great for greens, so those are what I end up starting first.

Snapdragons are 10-12 weeks, so get started on those if you want them. My last frost is April 1, so I’m a little ahead on my variety of seedlings.

There are so many flowers that are ready in that time frame.

My daughter in MN loves leeks, so I'll order some seeds to ship produce to her. And I seriously needed the marigold info. The weather just kicks me like a Mortal Kombat dude. But I'm on it. 🏆🏆 thnx for info

One thing nobody ever told me was that spring carrots are bitter and fall carrots are sweet. I wish I knew this before.

The first thing you mentioned was Brassicas, which I planted February 21st, after listening to this video. I’d be curious what your Brassicas look like now, March 19th, as my Brassicas are all big enough that they could be transplanted into the garden. However, today, my garden and raised beds are frozen solid again and I am worried about what shape my Brassicas may be in 4 weeks before our last frost date of May 15th.🤷♂️ Would love to see your Brassicas you planted mid-February, please, to try to determine what I may need to do for these to survive indoors.

You scared me saying broccoli needs to be started 12 weeks before our last frost date. This is my first time growing broccoli, and my packet says 6-8 weeks. I'm going t start them on Monday, which will be 10 weeks before my last frost date, so hopefully, I'll be ok.

Curious…thinking about you planting tomatoes early with the Wall o’ Water, and whether using that & planting a tomato seedling in a 5-gallon pail might be a good combination for early tomatoes.🤔 Thoughts?
@StoneyAcresGardening9 ай бұрын
I think your biggest issue will be with the wall o water on top of a bucket that will be very top heavy and likely to blow over in the wind.

I’d be curious to know what your Brassicas you planted in February look like. I planted my Brassicas on February 21st, and they are now ready to plant outdoors…but the outdoors is not ready for them to be planted as the ground is frozen after temperatures over the past week. 🤦♂️ Unfortunately I don’t have a greenhouse to put them in.🥺
@CherylMerz9 ай бұрын
I got a late start due to press of business, despite installing a greenhouse last fall. Today at noon, it was 48 degrees and sunny outside, but over 90 in the greenhouse! I'm going to be checking temperatures throughout the day so I'll have a better handle on it, but should I be planting cool weather crops in my raised beds inside my greenhouse now, instead of starting seedlings indoors? Should I be following your videos for warmer zones? I'm in zone 7a. Nighttime temps vary wildly - next 10 days shows anywhere from 25 - 40, with one night dipping below 20; averages in March mid-20s to mid-thirties.

QUESTION: I couldn't tell from your video if you have your walls of water in your hoop house. So I wonderif having them in the walls of water inside a hoop house would make it so they could go out even earlier?
@StoneyAcresGardening9 ай бұрын
No they aren't in the hoop house. The problem with doing them any earlier is that the tomatoes would outgrow the wall o water. The tops that came out of the wall o water would be exposed to the freezing temps. A hoop house on its own wouldn't stay above freezing on a really cold spring night so you would loose all of the top growth of the plant.

Hey Rick. New to your channel. A little off topic, but just finished watching one of your older videos entitled “Simple Raised Bed Garden” where you set up the Smart Pot Urban Raised Bed at your daughter’s house. Just curious, was her garden a success and would you recommend this particular raised bed garden for a beginner gardener?
@StoneyAcresGardening9 ай бұрын
Yes it was very successful. She has grown well in it for 2 seasons now.
