I totally agree with kelvin, as a business owner myself whenever I hire someone, I know eventually the person will leave for another job later. We just have to maximize the potential for the person you hire and be happy that he or she can jump up to the next part of the work life. No one stay in a job forever, unless it is your own business that you build up.

Both daughter & son did internships every holiday and they like it. Daughter took Loa as well. Landing an intern opportunity in a good company is competitive. Good exposure &earning pocket $,help to prepare them well for the work upon graduation and the career.

Thanks for helping me understand an undergrad's perspective. The reality is one needs good grades, charisma and even family connections to score hot jobs at the top financial institutions.

Actually I know Eric’s point of Malaysia and Singapore landed not being the same. Today if we want to renovate our HDB interior into condo style and standard; it can be done easily. But why so many ppl still want to upgrade to condo? Really for the facilities? I would say it’s for the sense of ego and shiokness. So with tis, a Malaysia and Singapore landed can be the same size, same design, same high ceiling height, but the sense of ego and shiokness achieved is still different. At least when u tell others u stay in Malaysia landed and Singapore landed, the ego boost is entirely different already.

Actually I kinda agree with his quote. Let’s say in totality, probably only top 10% really made it in life. Although outcome is not definitive by doing or not doing certain things, every effort does increase the probability bit by bit. So there’s 2 factors here, probability and time needed to reach the same lvl. It’s like asking is getting a degree really necessary to become successful? Imo, majority of kids tis era has the talent to excel, but only a handful can figure out on their own. Most still need a good company/learning opportunity, good boss, life mentor etc. Most ppl will be so caught up in the rat race to even realise their potential. With that being said, I feel those who can shine will still shine eventually regardless of whether u enjoy life early, but at the price of achieving the success later in life or the altitude of success for tis lifetime.

I agree with all of you about switching jobs, unless you are continuing to learn new things or growing to have bigger responsibilities which makes staying put worthwhile. Separately, getting an internship is not just for work experience, it can also help one to expand career network.

I had two internships but many holiday jobs e.g. work in petrol station, cashier at super market, salesman for soft drink, doing market survey, etc. Honestly I don’t know how much those internship and holiday jobs helped me. But at least it is helpful to convince my first employer that I am willing to work hard
