You are a very intelligent man! So glad to see younger people utilizing “analog” or “old” methods and realizing how they can be a benefit to our memory function. Love my modern technology and electronics, but my brain needs that analog stimulation as well.
@GareTheBearАй бұрын
Well, thank you so much!!! I have been greatly benefited by using a pocket notebook and I am happy to continue doing so. Nothing like a healthy mix of both analog and digital!

I prefer the aesthetic of the pocket notebooks from Dollar General because I think it’s really cool that they look like tiny versions of the full-size marbled composition books, but the Walmart ones are better quality since they’re sewn together, whereas the DG ones are glued and fall apart really easily.
@GareTheBear6 ай бұрын
Ohhhh right on!! Plus if I'm not mistaken, the DG ones only come in packs of 2 whereas Walmart comes in packs of 3. So it's a similar price but you get one more notebook! (Also, I was considering taking some of the black ones from Walmart that I have and Customizing them to look like a classic spackled comp book👀)

Awesome video! I too carry a pocket notebook. I started in Dec 23 and it has been a real game changer in helping me navigate all my ideas. I would use my phone, but the problem is, I never go back and look at notes in my phone. I fidget a lot so having a notebook to pull out and thumb through is perfect as i'm rereading ideas ive had constantly. I use it as a journal and planner too and lasts about 2 months. I'm fancy and i carry a 3.5" x 5.5" pocket sketch book, I like the slightly thicker pages.

That's AWESOME! I love how you really found what works for you! I have a lot of the same struggles with the phone and not going back and looking. I love flipping through an old notebook and finding an idea and bringing it to life! Thanks for watching my friend! See you soon🫡

Mate you want to add an indexing system to the front of the book so you can jump to the pages with specific ideas. For example you could have a video category, shopping category and an ideas category. I’ve done it and it makes everything so much easier and efficient
@GareTheBear7 ай бұрын
I totally agree with that!!! That's funny you mentioned it cause I had every intention to implement that system in my next book once I fill my current one up!🤣 Great tip, though!!! I appreciate it!🫡

My take is there's 2 types of notes: 1. Things that change only slightly over time (think Wikipedia) 2. Free flowing ideas (Think Twitter) I think for the Wiki type of notes (e.g. daily routine checklists), digital is better as it's much easier to add/modify/edit. For the Twitter kind of notes, paper may be more suitable as you can also draw diagrams etc. My 2c.

As someone with adhd I really badly need a note book cos other thoughts take over what I'm thinking and completely forgot my ideas, also u should A B test a thumbnail with the current one and a thumbnail where you look sad on half the thumbnailand low saturation and it says something like before notebook then on the other side a one that's more saturated and more happy where it says with note book
@GareTheBear7 ай бұрын
Oooo I like that thumbnail idea!! I'll have to try that out and see how it looks!! And I TOTALLY relate to your experience. It's so hard to keep an idea fresh in my head so I have to offload it to the book so I can forget, but not lose the idea!

For headings, you can use the Markdown format in the form of a different number of ‘#’
@GareTheBear7 ай бұрын
Sounds interesting! What would make that different than bullets or dashes?🤔
@AnarchySane7 ай бұрын
@@GareTheBear The fact that the headings are visually separated from the rest. And no one prevents you from making nested headers, i.e. the '#' header of the first level, and the '##' header of the second level, and so on.

There's pouches and EDC covers/sleeves for pocket notebooks out there (especially for 3.5 x 5.5" pocket notebooks, like Field Notes or Moleskine Cashier notebooks). Been looking up DIYs for notebook covers and pouches to see if they can be modified to fit on a keychain or lanyard myself.
