I appreciate your "hands on" post. I also spray painted the Lux reflector white (softer light with less edge fall off) and fashioned a 1/4 CTO gel sleeve to warm up the color rendition.

Thank you for this video. Just received the Flash Q from Amazon today. I love it functions with most of my cameras. It's firing with my Nikon Z9 fine but I bought it because it's working across the board with my Olympus OM10, Canon AE-1, and Nikon film cameras. Excited to see the results

Nice video. One thing I noticed when looking to order this is they make a receiver for the FlasgQ as well for $25. You could use one of these to trigger the Godox. Doesn't make it any better, just allows you to make the cool looking flash more functional.

Thank you for this excellent tutorial. I love photography, but I am far from being a pro. I use Nikon DSLR's, a D3100 which I really like for flash photography of people at night, a D5600 which I just broke (bummer) and a D7500, not in my hands just yet. Those cameras I use a lot with a small Nikon SB 400 flash, sometimes a SB 500, because of its swivel capacity. But, since I am photography crazy, I carry with me (every single day) a Fuji X100 ( bought a used X100T, wich has not arrived yet). Anyway, I love the Fuji X100 colors, people skin colors are fantastic, and the way its built in flash synchs is incredible, the little Fuji X100's built in flash delivers just the right amount of light every time I shoot !!!!!! DSLR's I've used do the same, but not right off the bat, they need adjusting, and many times I don't have time for that. So, I have a question, maybe you can answer it for me, does this Q 20II work thru TTL just as well as the built in flash the X100 comes with??? Do you know ??? Thank you for your time. Keep it up !!!! Great videos !!!!

You keep calling them both 'small flashes' when one when functioning is hilariously massive.

Have you experimented with partially or not opening the reflective cone behind the bulb on the Godox LUX SR to see if it is a viable workaround for producing less than 1/16th power?
@Seimstudios
@Seimstudios Жыл бұрын
No but it would not help much. This is essetially a bare bulb flash even with the cone and while it would reduce light focus a little it's still not the same as directional control. I sent back the Lux SR

Interesting comparison. I’m exploring flash photography for the first time, though I have been using cameras for more than 40 years. Is there a way to diffuse the Godox? Like a circle that gets placed right over the whole setup when open? I’m looking for the simplest smallest practical light weight solution for the Nikon Zf. My use cases would be casual portraits with mostly natural light and a little fill, and macro photography. I would be interested in a simple diffuser as well. I will check out your links, but thanks for making the video!

Hello Seim, can the "modelling"/video light of the FlashQ be used to give an idea of what the flash image would look like at the same power level? For instance, if both were set to 1/16th would the amount of light given by the "modelling" mode be the same as that given out by the Flash? I'm useless at manual flash calculations and was wondering if I look through the viewfinder with the modelling light on and change the power of it to give the result I want, would I get that same result by switching on the flash mode and setting it to the same power level as the modelling light? Any help you can give would be much appreciated.
@Seimstudios
@Seimstudios 4 ай бұрын
No the flash output is far higher than the light and it does not have the same power setting. Modeling lights are not generally used that way even in studio. Come to my Shadow hackers workshop and you will no longer be useless at calculations.

@@Seimstudios Thanks for the info Seim. If only someone could invent a flash with a modeling light that was capable of working the way I'd like. Mind you, having seen the price being charged for the Q20II (£135-ish) I'd be surprised if I didn't need a loan to buy the sort of flash that can work how I'd want. lol. Is you workshop online?

The Godox works as a slave. You can fire it off camera if your camera has a mini flash on board.
@Seimstudios
@Seimstudios 3 ай бұрын
yes most flashes all the way back to the 90's will do that. But slaves are not near as reliable as a radio trigger

If only the LightPix flash had an auto thyrister setting and the ability to fire it with a PC cord..instead of the dopey unusable video light.. The wireless tiny transmitter is killer though..
@Seimstudios
@Seimstudios 11 ай бұрын
What do you want from a mini flash. But there is a TTL version. Also this does have a cord input. I've never tried it but it's there.
@UKBROOKLYN
@UKBROOKLYN 11 ай бұрын
@@Seimstudios Nope it does not have a PC cord input. And yeah I do want auto function. TTL is useless unless you have a camera that uses their protocol. Currently they only support a couple and any one with older mechanical cameras would not be able to use TTL anyway.

Not useless to me. Light is power. Is HSS a thing anymore. I mean most cameras sync at at 250 natively now. HSS was one of those cool 2000's things that seemed really important and most of us never used in real life work. But yes if you're doing specialty high speed work a pocket flash won't cut it. They really don't have the power to light and that fast of shutter speed.
