One thing to be aware of is that with the spade lugs, your components are now swinging in the breeze, whereas a full socket would have plastic "casing" which would extend down to the PCB making it much more sturdy. I don't know your use case of this PCB, if it's just sitting on your test bench it would be fine, but in real world applications, definitely use a proper socket. The sockets for automotive relays also have clips which hold the relay in. Obviously in automotive you're driving, so securing it from vibration is absolutely necessary.

I have only rarely encountered automotive pigtails and fuse boxes with clips for the relays - it was mostly on older vehicles - but I do get your point about "in the breeze" - so far so good, but I'll keep an eye on it. My long-term plan is to have a 3d printed case to go around them but I am still fine tuning the fit

@@SimpleElectronics I'm wondering, why the need to automotive relays in the first place? Surely you could find a relay and switches designed to solder into a PCB with the right ratings, no?

Cheap, ubiquitous and locally available in 100s - this project has the requirement to be field serviceable

This is one that I have need of, even today. Thanks! These seem to be available on FleaBay, too. However, they do not look to be so cheap, IMO. I used your search term suggestion; "spade lug pcb terminal." Suggestion, for One-Off DIY boards, maybe just remove the connector insulation tube, crush the wire tangs flat, measure the the flattened tang, and use a PCB hole big enough to match. My problem in doing this is that I was working on a board that had the wires soldered to it and the pads were SMDs. If I had used crushed connectors on the board, the SMD pads would likely have lifted, with the force of unplugging and plugging in the wires. So, I just inserted the connectors into the length of the wire, as usual.

I knew there was something I meant to ask while you were making this board. I don't see a test channel for the trailer indicators. (or am I missing something)

Hi links are bad? do you have a name for search?

Links work on my end - try "spade lug pcb terminal" but like I said, Aliexpress search is getting really bad at finding what you want instead opting for high profit items.
