What's up, Sidney? I have been looking at the Rov Pro for months (ever since being introduced to this cheaper line of sliders in McKinnon's Iceland video). Part of the argument with myself was that they did not have an Android version of the app (I have old iPhones I could have used but currently I use a Pixel 2 XL). The Android app is available now in the Google store...so today, I finally purchased it! I used your discount code, too. Thanks for the reviews you do. I enjoy your content. Keep up the good work! :)

Come for the tech review, stay for the CEREAL! Nicely done. I like that it comes with a ball head, a nice one stop shop, but yeah I can see how if you have one it would be annoying to first add an adapter. But if the build quality of theirs is good, in the end, it shouldn't matter. I think it was smart of them to include it. I agree about wishing that the basic movement controls aren't hard wired into the slider itself. Phones die or quirk out, it's always nice to not have to rely on them fully.

Hi, Sidney. So I just got my slider a couple of weeks ago. I have had problem after problem with this slider. I am using Android, so I guess it is not as developed or as well tested as if I had an Apple phone/tablet. Can you explain how to do a timelapse with it? The only way it works for me is in my camera's photo mode, taking hundreds of pictures? Do I have to take all these photos into FCPX or Premiere and put the timelapse together myself? I am using a Canon SL2 which creates timelapse videos in camera (no third party video software needed). Can I still use this function somehow? The video mode of the Rov app only allows slides that last less than one minute at max. But if in timelapse mode in the Rov app (to achieve longer, slower slides), my camera settings are overrode by the app....creating old school, hundreds of photos type of timelapse (not a quick, user friendly timelapse process). I want to use the Rov to create motion for IN CAMERA timelapse videos. I don't want to have to stitch together hundreds of photos in a video editing program to make my timelapse videos. Is this possible?
@phillippia5 жыл бұрын
Nevermind, I just disconnected the shutter cable when using timelapse mode in the Rov app. I set my timelapse options up in my camera and manually started the timelapse by hitting record on my camera. At the same time, I pushed start on the Rov app....just had to make sure the interval was set to move the slider every second or so. This way I still get my in camera timelapse video, but now with some camera movement. They should have just put in an option to make video mode slides last longer in the app...that would be the easiest option for those of us that have timelapse video modes built into our camera bodies. No need for taking hundreds of pictures that have to be manually stitched together later.
@SidneyDiongzon5 жыл бұрын
I’ll look into it, but unless the camera has a feature to create it in-camera, you’ll have to do it the old fashioned way. The Sony a6500 has a great in-camera feature! Not sure about the Canon SL2
@phillippia5 жыл бұрын
@@SidneyDiongzon The Canon SL2 does do timelapse in camera....I replied to myself above (in case someone else has the same question later) when I figured it out. I just disconnected the shutter cable from the Rov and camera. From there I matched the timelapse duration in the ROV app with the estimated timelapse duration from my in-camera settings. Lastly, I started the timelapse from my camera and the Rov at the same time. The final result is that my timelapse video is recorded in-camera by my SL2 while the ROV slider moves it along for the duration of the timelapse.

@@SidneyDiongzon Yes Tech is part of the film making process.. it just seems to me its a ton of Tech videos lately as compared to filmaking videos. Early on you and most creators would push the gear doesnt matter movement its about story and creating. But then everyone pushes a ton of gear for filmaking. Thats why people are so concerned with gear over story cause it seems to be pushed more often.. Please dont take this as any hate towards u, i learned i didnt need a gimbal for smooth shots from you, got my filmaking camera settings from you, etc. So you helped me realize i can make cinematic videos without alot of gear. Because you got the slider for nothing and considering Rhino sent this unit off to a crap tonne of influencers, I can’t really take your review without any kind of particular bias. I wonder what those who have paid full price for the slider plus shipping have to say about it.
@SidneyDiongzon6 жыл бұрын
Well honestly, most influencers (including myself) will NEVER say something we don’t believe in. Otherwise, what’s the point? This wasn’t a paid video, but we always have freedom to express what we feel about products regardless of it being sponsored or not. This slider is genuinely a good slider, and I will stick to that. It’s not perfect, but it’s good.
@SidneyDiongzon6 жыл бұрын
Great comment by the way.
@modernslice22386 жыл бұрын
Paid is irrelevant, you got about $500 worth of gear at cost so an exchange took place. Most influencers won't turn down free gear that helps them make videos. I mean you have to understand the compromised position you're in when looked at critically. Critically not "negative" but critically like "is this review an HONEST one". Do they tell you that shutter cable doesn't ship with the device? It's $10 more, that's kind of annoying. The slider is good no doubt, but my feed is riddled with 10% discounts for people who got a free one and all I'm saying is that THAT is a problem for the customer who's being "influenced". PS: most gear isn't perfect so that's fair, also I'm sure Rhino understand the game, their goal is to get eyeballs on product and you guys can deliver that for the very low low price of the cost of a single unit. Not bad compared to what it costs to advertise on television, but there are many more restrictions and rules for doing that.
@SidneyDiongzon6 жыл бұрын
I get what you're saying, but I still disagree. I can only speak for myself, but I never review a product with any bias regardless of an exchange or sponsorship. To be fair, my review wasn't the fullest in-depth review video, otherwise I might have caught those small things. But I just mentioned the things that were important to me personally, and overall I do like the slider a lot. Truthfully, I thought Caleb did a better review. Also, we "influencers" work hard to get where we're at. It takes a lot of work to make these videos and to do them well. There's a reason why brands work with us because of the work and results we produce. So yes, compensation of some sort is necessary to even make these videos because of the time and effort it takes to produce them. And in the client world, making a video for a company is at least a $5000 gig, yet we influencers get a $500 or so product. Doesn't sound too fair if you think about it like that.
@modernslice22386 жыл бұрын
I'm all for paid work, believe me when I know that it's a lot of work, video making isn't easy. The work though can vary in terms of laziness. I won't say yours is lazy, because I don't feel it is, but I've seen some reALLY great product reviews by people who do this for "fun". Pay for the stuff and review it for the sake, half to them aren't even reminding people to subscribe which blows me away. Influencers are working the same as the people who are influenced by them. The guy laying concrete works hard as hell at the job he does, the woman surgeon who's just finished a 14 hour surgery on 3 hours sleep worked hard for where she is. The teachers, police, firefighters etc etc al work hard because it's a job. I think the hardest job influencers have to deal with is getting an audience and keeping them, I've seen first hand some super lazy reviews that make me question how on earth a company sees value in that. I think audience number speaks more than actual quality of work. Also, a client making a video for a company must be accountable to that company and most companies have various tiers you must get through so that $5000 = 40-60 hours of work compared to what, 12 you did for this video? You don't have to answer to anyone either, there are no review cuts, there are no notes, so ya, you get subscribers which gets you access and you get gear you'd have to buy otherwise. You could always have a full time job on the side or at the very least a part time one. Please understand that I'm not speaking directly to the quality of YOUR work, your work is good that's why I watch and subscribe. I do tend to call out things when I think them, getting your side has been helpful as always because a discussion is cool IMHO. Just a side note, there is a reason a lot of people don't bother with youtube, the hard work and time with minimal returns. Besides anyone running their own business must work 5x harder than anyone who just simply works for a company ... that's entrepreneurship at the very core. No disrespect intended just want to clear that up.

Let me tell you why I don't like this product. First of all: the legs don't extend to do 45 degree slide movement which is way more dynamic than just a simple boring side to side movement that can be done in post . Second of all : it doesn't do pan movement simultaneously with the slide movement which is again WAY more dynamic than this boring one way movement. Which can easily be replicated in post or by using a gimbal. When I put this kind of money into a product I want it to be worth it and have it all. Just like how Sony put everything into their cameras . But for me to pay 400 dollars for just a one way simple non dynamic movement that has only one real benefit which is allowing me to shoot 4k during a slow movement instead of 120p is just not enough. Can't allow gear manufacturers to give us half good products and charge us so much . Therefore having to buy more and more equipment and constantly upgrade and quickly grow out of them.
