Your lens was made in 1972, as denoted by the first two digits of the serial number. The optics were calculated in 1955, which may be what you were referring to. Also, the lens itself didn't win the Grand Prix prize in 1958, the entire Soviet presentation won the Grand Prix prize. Neat fact, the Tair 11 was also included in the exhibition and also received recognition. Both lenses designed by the same guy. Cheers!

Thank you so much for the input. I was googling this lens for a while trying to get as much info as I could about it's history. But first hand knowledge from someone in the know is always the best. I'm going to pin your comment so I can help inform others. Can you recommend a webpage were I can go to get proper information about this lens?

@@vaskoobscura_ I'm no expert for sure, just a collector of Soviet lenses! I'm sitting on my own video review of this same lens but haven't released it yet. I'm still trying to find my "voice," which you've clearly found. My information is spot on but my presentation isn't great. However, I dig your presentation, which is what led me to comment in the first place. Keep up the cool work.

What if I found a lens with a serial number that starts with “01”? They didn’t make these lenses in the 2000’s right?
@ClickClickComrade Жыл бұрын
@@fanpandatastic no, those lenses can fall into a few categories. The lenses with more zeroes were potentially prototypes, lenses for VIPs, Diplomats or Party leaders, or testing units. They’re generally considered to have better glass and build quality, but that not always born out to be true.

I found this lens at my grandfather's house, it is slightly used but not abused (all black parts are still 100% black...) The focus ring is as smooth as it could possibly be, perfect for video and better than most photographic lenses I have in this regard.

Fantastic review, thats a issue with all M42 screw mounts. With my M42 old Soviet glass I use a tiny dab of Loctite on the screwmount and that seems to solve any risk of unscrewing the lens while adjusting the focus ring. Or if you have the money, you could get your Soviet glass rehoused into a modern cine body from Ironglass.
@vaskoobscura_ Жыл бұрын
I've heard of Ironglass. They do some cool work. I might try your loctite trick. Thanks for that tip i'm going to look into that. And glad you enjoyed the review. Vintage lenses are so fun. Got more vintage lens videos coming soon.

It's incredible that people are paying that kind of money for such a shitty lens. I had it like 15 years ago, only bought it because it was like $50 then, eventually I got rid of it as it's not good at all in any aspect. You can get plugins to recreate all its flaws in post if that's your cup of tea...
@vaskoobscura_2 күн бұрын
Imagine if you were smart enough to realize that they don’t make vintage lenses anymore and they only go up in value with time. You could have bought three nFD 85mm f1.2 lenses for $900 and today they would be worth $2000 each.
