You NEED To Change Your Plow Fluid!

If you plow snow, no matter what type of plow, you NEED to change your fluid annually. Moisture builds up and can freeze in the lines / pistons, causing your plow to stop working in the middle of a storm. That is a very big deal, the last thing you want is to be stuck in the middle of a snow storm with an unusable snow plow....
So check out this video and see how we go about our annual maintenance on this #Fishersnowplow

I used to feel that way about the controller, but once I tried one and got used to it I would never go back to joystick, fishstik fits in right hand comfortably and allows me shifting, turning of truck and plow operation all at same time. Good video. I also take the hydraulic line off the pump instead of piston, that way you can direct the fluid into drain pan while manually angling the plow.

I plowed for a company which had the handhelds, I kind of got used to them but still like the joystick 10x more. Personal preference though. And taking it off the pump instead is a pretty good idea, thanks! ✌

I have an older Pathfinder plow, and it specifies ATF for fluid. It's $38 per gallon at my local auto parts store. I need to replace my lift cylinder, it's leaking at the seal, and the piston has a few deep pits
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper Жыл бұрын
I have heard of people using ATF for their plows so I believe it. It is very similar to plow hydraulic fluid. The only difference I think is how it operates in very very cold conditions. Good luck with your repairs. ✌

You ever think about pulling your chain back a couple links on your piston it doesn’t look like you have very much ground clearance when the plow is lifted all the way up. (Might just be hard to tell on camera)
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper 2 жыл бұрын
I think it’s just the camera angle, I got a good 12 inches when it’s fully raised. If you bring the chains to high, you risk the plow hovering when you go to plow steep downward hills. I know what you’re saying though, some guys seem to be basically dragging their plow around… 🤣✌🏻

I skipped a year or two and my fluid turned into a slushy when temperatures hit about 0 for a few weeks. Would have been easier in June to change fluid.
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper 13 күн бұрын
Yeah, that can happen pretty easy... Warm weather helps to change it for sure.

Fixed controls for the plows are nice. I haven't used the joystick but my truck is a manual transmission so a joystick would honestly be basically unusable.
@TheChristianHardscaper

I love that controller.... And yea, a loose handheld would be pretty tough in a stick shift.... 🤣
@adamrushford
@adamrushford Жыл бұрын
handhelds are fumbly and hard, you shouldn't plow with a stick shift but if you do get the joystick and operate it with the clutch held just like the stick shift, once you start going you just keep it real low and in 4 low, at crawl speed you'll be fast enough, fixed controls keep it safer, you'll have to cover the extra fuel costs because you're not in a prius.

Put Wings on if you get rid of 80% of that side flow. I got mine and 1 inch unbreakable plastic they work incredible it will speed up your plow time my 40%

6:11 that's funny because that's about all the tools I have... if you have a late 80s fisher minute mount 1 like I do the solenoid isn't metric and the size is a bit random once it's rusted, if that helps anyone. But I got a universal small rachet and socket set for 12 bucks for that.

$60 for a gallon seems pretty good. My local parts store has the fisher brand fluid and it’s $22 for a quart!
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper 2 жыл бұрын
Yea, you save a little money buying it by the gallon. They certainly do not give it away.... ✌
@adamrushford
@adamrushford Жыл бұрын
amazon today I can get the -50 stuff for about $60... it doesn't matter what brand hydraulic fluid you get, the fisher is simply going to be maximum cold (antifreeze) and will absolutely be more expensive because of the priority shipping/warehouse holding adages... it is not worth the extra money simply get the coldest stuff, and change it seasonally.

I probably would have left the cap off and actuated the plow left and right by hand to fill those cylinders. Anyway I heard there's a filter in the system? Have you heard anything like that?
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper 2 жыл бұрын
That probably would have worked too, as long as you get it moving the system should pump it through itself though. Then once I open the reservoir to check it, the air is removed. There is a mesh filter in the pump, never had to take one apart yet though...

I have a theory why the tool you need is always in the last place you look. The reason is because normal people stop looking when they find the tool they need. Thus they find it in the last place they looked. See how that works? This is why every time I look for a tool and find it, I will then look in one more place just to make certain I have found the tool I need but not in the last place I looked. Work smarter!
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper Жыл бұрын
That is 100% logic right there! LOL Makes total sense to me, I will have to do that more often because every time I find what I though I need, I find out I was wrong.... 😂 ✌
