If you're going for consistency with Blaine, the new Rapidash isn't going to be a wise include. I also feel it slows down the deck's proficiency. Having to throw a second energy for your Rapidash to attack, when you could be setting up your Ninetails feels too slow for me. However, the new Rapidash will be better in mirror matches. The new Ponyta is an auto include. It's a fantastic 'Mon to start with.

I've been running x2 new Pony, x2 old Rapi, x2 Vulpix, x2 Tales, and x1 Mew ex and it feels so powerful rn. Mew really improves the Mewtwo and Charizard matchup, but Serperior / Celebi seems to be the most popular thing atm, which this deck just eats.

I don't mind switching the Ponyta since I do think that is perfectly valid. Gives some potentially extra pop. What I'm not doing is putting the new Rapidash in. That card art is incredible. But I play Blaine to minimize the coin flips! I may put up with it with Ponyta since it doesn't slow down the deck. But I'm definitely not going that with Rapidash. Because I wouldn't use Blaine with Rapidash unless it was under the low roll calculation anyways. And in that case might as well discard the coin flip. Clearly from the video it's not a bad move. But there's no way. If I want to do coin flips for every attack I"ll just play Celibi Ex.
@Rappyfan2 күн бұрын
weird to say you put ponyta in but not rapidash, considering you are talking about coinflips.... rapidash uses one energy more, yes, but worst case scenario of missing the coinflip would be the old result. unlike ponyta wich could be worse than before very often.
@W7RSON2 күн бұрын
@@Rappyfan slowing the deck with one extra energy damages the deck WAY more than a Ponyta that may or may not halve or double the current damage Ponyta does.
@Rappyfan2 күн бұрын
@@W7RSON But he was specifically talking about the coin toss and not the extra energy. Thats why i find this comment a little odd. Besides that, as stated in the Video, if you get it right at the start of the game it wouldnt even really slow you down. From my view, rapidash before wasnt something you really want to use, but would use if you dont get your nintetails. now it can actually be a lot more useful.
@W7RSON2 күн бұрын
@@Rappyfan Blaine is my main deck since I'm a f2p player and let me tell you, Rapidash is as important as Ninetales in that deck. The energy cost being so low is one of the main reasons it fits so well, you can build your Ninetales while keeping the pressure by preparing for Ninetales to sweep when he comes and fainting your opponents Pokemon when they are building up with a slower deck.

The new Rapidash was a bad option. The old one was more flexible tbh. The new Ponyta's less 10 dmg from before was not a bad trade since at 50/50 chance you can deal more damage and you evolve it ASAP in every play.

@EmeralBookwise2 күн бұрын
I'm not so sure about the new Rapidash. Speed was what made the original so good and the Blaine deck doesn't really need another heavy hitter, that's what Ninetails is for. At the same cost of two energy it might get 10 less damage, but that damage is 100% reliable, albeit at the added cost of a losing an energy. Still especially when running a damage bosting card like Blaine, that reliability matters, and a meager 10 extra damage for the new Rapidash just doesn't really feal worth the risk. Maybe if it was two colorless energies, making it splashable in other decks, but as is, I'm definitely sticking with the first Rapidash. Ponyta on the other hoof, I think the new one might just be plain better. It gets slightly higher damage on average, so missing out on 10 less damage is well worth the risk of maybe getting an extra 20, and even if it's not entirely reliable, leading with the new Ponyta can put some very uncomfortable pressure on the opponent. Sort of the same for the new Eevee. It certainly isn't a good alternative to Farfetch'd, but for a deck that is only using it as a steppingstone to get to an Eeveelution, I think the new Eevee is better than the old if only for its ability to scare the opponent. It's entirely unreliable, but like Misty, when it pops off it can swing an entire game. One energy to maybe KO literally any card in the game is just too crazy to ignore.

@libra3655Күн бұрын
I've converted my Blaine deck to the new Ponyta and Rapidash. For me the reward outweighed the risk. I also had Magmar and Moltres EX in my deck (2 and 2) and removed them for the new Eevee and the Flareon. For one extra setup energy I felt that Flareon is better for more consistent damage, a little beefier than Ninetales, and can tank two hits safely from Celebi. Also pulled my X speeds for Leaf for better energy preservation in case I need a switch in threat.

The deck already has a much better stage 1 attacker with a 2 energy attack. Old Rapidash is good because it's a good attacker option when you're stuck going first. Far fetched doesn't benefit from Blaine or Weakness so old Rapidash is better than that too.

I'll put one of each for now, and will see from there. If we start with Ponyta, we always put Energy on it anyways, so having a 2 Energy attack shouldn't make a difference, and it's not like we're losing damage by missing the coin flip, unlike any other flips. And if you go first and can't evolve right away, there's still a chance that Ponyta does the same 40 Damage the old Rapidash did. It also gives you a second attacker in case you can't find Ninetales.
