Colder than “Duluth in December”… I know that well enough. I met up with my sister in Duluth in February then drove north for nearly a week pulling a horse trailer all the way through the Yukon and into Alaska. One day was 30 below zero. Brutal.

I love this advice not just for sword work, but for life. God bless.

I’ve said this numerous times. To ignore your dark side is to be surprised and caught off guard when it shows it’s head. Violence and aggression are the birthright of humanity. Acting like that’s not true doesn’t make it not true. As I used to teach my students, at same time, you have to embrace that darkness, and be the monster, when evil men force violent action upon you, if you hope to come out of combat alive.

How is it that your channel isn't more popular its beyond me. I practice fencing and mma in Italy and your insights, the way you complement martial arts and philosophy, have been invaluable to me. Bless the algorithm for letting me discover this hidden gem of a youtube channel.

Oh, I know my "werewolf," all right, and I've never had much doubt what he looks like: "darkness" doesn't always mean "evil," after all, and so he doesn't scare me as much as he does other people. The problem IS other people, who seem to wrongly perceive my dark side when it isn't really showing; in fact, doubling down on my brighter side seems to make it worse. People suck, not the darkness.

Life choices are akin to a fight. That's what fencing/martial arts can show you. That's what La Belle is saying. To make the right decision in a sword fight is dependent upon the situation. What to do in the next moment depends on how the last moment evolved into this one and so on. If you do not adapt, you are NOT making the right choice. How do you know if you've made the right decisions? Well, in a sword fight, wrong decisions are called wounds. In life, those are called regrets... or also wounds.

i like this guy, he looks like a villanous mentor to a rouge, he dies either in act one or at the hands of his pupil at the end.

fiftyand some years ago, i was a promising student of kendo. in the midst of a well-timed do (stomach) strike, i had a very realistic hallucination of what it would look like. i kept fencing for some time, but my heart was not in it. now i'm a vegetarian. if you are fortunate, you will discover who you are, independently of the people around you. morality is a mass delusion.

This is what Cobra Kai series was about. The "Bad" guy Johnny Lawrence was a better man in many ways than "Good guy" Daniel San, and much less of a hypocrite.

Of course. It’s the Freudian crap that makes everybody look like schizophrenics. There is no such thing in Daoism as the dark side Hyde dude, and they discovered yin-yang, so to speak. Let us read some Zhuangzi : the suffering is due to people falling from Dao. Simple.

A bit pretentious. Hema and modern fencing are a fan game of tag with other nerds.
