The VS GTS or VS Senator in Cherry Black 🍒 have always been my favourite HSV's. I know the Aussie 5L and 5.7L stroker are nothing much when looking at the numbers but they just sound so good! Respect to the owner for the tasteful upgrades on this example 👏

I was 5 years old when the first car I remember my old man having was a VS Calais with the 3.8L V6, it was a beast for its time but obviously by todays standards it’s not much anymore, then a couple years later he upgraded to a VT Commodore SS with the 5.0L V8. Again for its time it was a rocketship and the engine note was orgasmic, it’s what started my love for cars at a really young age. 179kW may be laughable for a big V8 motor by todays standards since most modern 4cylinder turbos would gap it, but man, the exhaust note and looks of the oldschool Commodore’s, what a beast of a machine. I miss seeing them on the road, now all you see is just family cars, SUV’s and most commonly Ute’s have taken over the nation.

The transition of what was considered fast dramatically changed from the mid 90’s to the early 2000’s. I remember when my 155kw 1996 WRX was revolutionary at the time and then the STi’s came out, LS1 V8’s came out and grey import Skylines and Mitsubishi EVO’s dramatically changed the performance car market. If you can you need to fine someone willing to let you drive a vh/vb sle. Essentially the birth of hsv. The added extras holden offered for that model run was the spark that really started it all. I still have memories of my Dads sle waking the neighbourhood with its factory optioned 2 3/4 inch exhaust.

Ahhhh yes the VB & VH SLE brings back memories. I preferred the VH with the blue motor & a 4 barrel carb added. The burgandy colour velour interiors were my favourite with the rear seat head rests of course. Didn't own one but a very good friend did, I actually owned a 79' VB SLE dark metallic green over silver (rare colour combo) bone coloured velour interior with a 4.2 litre red & trimatic. Beautiful car, nothing fast (no power under 60klms, highway diff) just an awesome cruiser that snapped necks wherever I went. Could pull 100klms out first gear in manual mode, pop it into third at 150klms, glorious sound. Sorry for the ramblings, lol, your comment just brought back great memories. Wish I never sold it 😢

Aside patheticly limited importing to UK and Chevy SS(whvih was far tok late and atill lacked wagon and ute bodystyles). When they briefly did with Opel Omega it never had any fun engines, never had a V8. GM is at fault for suffocating Holden to death by limiting them so much..
