Thank you Carl. This was a concise and motivating summary of the principles you shared in Your Digital Life 3.0. I am starting to realize that while I have that good GTD habit of capturing everything, I'm not so good at prioritizing and saying "no." Thanks for reminding us of the power of setting priorities, and the critical importance of keeping the list to a manageable number.

Thanks, Carl, for your contributions to my pursuit of happiness and improved productivity! I'm fascinated with "Ivy Lee" method - I've not heard of this yet it sounds similar to some of Drucker's, et al processes for daily task selection.

Well worth looking up, Ernie. It weird how so many of the old principles still work today--often better than the modern equvalents.

Thank you for that Carl, far too few people say it nowadays that downsizing and prioritizing are the mandatory start of any productivity strategy.

You're right, must of what we hear is about doing more, yet really the better strategy is to do less and more effectively.

I’ve been working this method for over 40 years and it works perfectly if you stay with it. Do the first item on your list, do it well, then move to item 2, etc.. It’s surprising how much you can accomplish.
@Carl_Pullein3 жыл бұрын
So true, Barry.
@timbushell86403 жыл бұрын
So balance out the GTD - mind dumping of all "things-in-your-head"... ... as clearly that is always based on 50 to 1,000 item type list. But other than just take the top 8+2 (your 10)... still trawling the long list. Styling the list - to actually manage that list from the psychological pov, to therefore make it do the work, the heavy lift in presenting tasks in a manageable way. Good reminder vid.

it is the best video you ever made! My struggle is not my task, it is maintaining the information/the data. I didn't succeed to build a good system to maintain my data. (by the way very nice scene, and relaxing to watch).

Great video thanks - as someone with ADD, I find it really easy to get overwhelmed with tasks and not have clear priorities. I think limiting the number of tasks a day and setting them the day before is a helpful idea.
@Carl_Pullein3 жыл бұрын
Hi David, It does work. If you're using an app like Todoist, or Things 3, you can create a view that only shows your six tasks without the distraction of everything else.

I highly recommend reading the book “Win At Work Succeed At Life” by Michael Hyatt jumps into the psychology of the culture of overwork and teaches you to be successful at work and life without sacrificing one over the other. Very balanced.

Hi Carl, I'm following you since several years and I can confirm that this is the most shocking and relevant video I have seen!!!. Great, simple, right to the point....and very honest about task management systems....as you say at the end it's all about your priorities and how you assure to complete critical tasks each day, trying to avoid the noyse of the others activities. Great video!!! Thanks

Happy to report I have 6 tasks in my Task Manager for tomorrow that are either colour coded red or amber. Not so happy to report I have a further 16 tasks of lesser importance that need to be completed before Tuesday morning.
@Carl_Pullein3 жыл бұрын
Just focus on your six. Once they are done, if you have time, you can do some of the other tasks.
@enicode3 жыл бұрын
Are your 10 tasks include the “larger” recurring tasks I.e. daily sport or laundry or weekly planning or any other similar task?
@Carl_Pullein3 жыл бұрын
It really does depend. If I have not done any laundry for two weeks and have no clean clothes left, laundry would become a priority. On a normal week to week basis, it would not. The "ten" or less, are my priorities, so these will change on a day to day basis. One priority for me today is to clear my Action This Day email folder as I didn't do it yesterday - it wasn't a priority yesterday.

I was only 10 years or so into productivity when my girlfriend says. The things you label have to do are not things you have to do... Ok... So what do you mean? You HAVE to walk the dog and pick up the kids. These you cannot skip. You SHOULD do a project for work and yourself if you have time. (Purpose and objectives but also keeping your day job and do groceries) You CAN play a video game or play guitar.. these you can skip if you want Aaahhhh ok clear... This dropped my list to half the tasks..
