Speaking of cedar ridge, I was at the distillery and I liked their BIB rye even better than the single malt.

I just in the past couple of weeks began seriously experimenting with rye. So far I've tried Sagamore Spirit and Bulleit, both of which are MGP juice. They're interesting and not unpleasant, but they're not my kind of whiskey. Now I've liked Knob Creek rye in the past, and it's from Jim Beam instead of MGP so it's different stuff (and if I remember correctly it's a "barely legal" rye). But I do need to try it again. And there are some other ryes I want to try before I definitively decide whether rye's my speed. The Bulleit and Sagamore Spirit were vegetal and mineral, but I think a rye that gives more of a spicy profile might work better for me, since I like some high rye bourbons (e.g. Old Grand-Dad, Bulleit). The only American barley whisky I've ever had (I'm American, and so eschew British English 🙂) is the Lineage Texas Single Malt from Balcones Distilling. It's *intensely* fruity, with the smokiness and density of flavor that are characteristic of Balcones juice. 20:33 OGD BiB is much better than you'd guess from the price. I know much more about bourbon than I do about any other whisky, though I'm no expert. But of y'all's first three, all I've had is the Old Grand-Dad. 🙂 Well, now it's one out of four...do I hear one of five? we'll see. 🤠 Yep - I've had just 20% of the bourbons on the bar. 😂

As an Iowan, I’m so excited to see two Iowa distilleries on the list. I have that same Magi bottle and it’s been hard to not keep revisiting it. I have a store pick estate red wine Quintessential also and the jam reference is spot on. My local just brought in an 8 year biscuit malt Quintessential that is s’mores in a glass!

Glenns Creek is incredible and when you think they have 4 employees, they are unbelievable. The Russell’s Reserve line up is wonderful too. I really enjoyed meeting Jimmy Russell and having him sign my bottle!

Greetings from the UK. My wife and I love your videos. The vibe between you two makes for great entertainment and educational too. I did chuckle about the "daily drinker". I still find it amazing that certain bottles aren't available in some States. Is that down to local regulations?

I think it is down to distilleries work through distributors who are not all completely nationwide. That and a lot of states have state government run distribution, which means a distillery would have to have arrangements with that particular states government to distribute. A lot of distilleries would then have a product that becomes regional in nature more than nation wide

Last week I bought an American single malt, Courage & Conviction from the Virginia Distilling Co. It is quite good! Definitely reminded me of a Scotch. Another one that I'm hoping to get my hands on someday is Little Rest by Tenmile Distillery up in New York.

Nice line ups! When I get new bottles I usually try them within the first couple of nights. When my son gifts me a bottle I will open it and we try it usually right then and there. ty strong like bull...the more y'all focus on the value stuff, the more i can understand. bourbon newbies {like me} should be given guidance for $20 to $35 [for 750 ml bottles] i may be able to buy a barrel bourbon for $105....but i would likely gain better understanding and appreciation with 3 different for $100 or $65 beginner's could try: Old Forester 100 is $27 Old Grandad 100 is $26 Wild Turkey 101 is $22 tasting and comparing these will help me to understand some likes and not likes for cheaperer. i bet most newbies would want to have better cheap bottles for starters, maybe the expensive stuff can be better understood after a cheaper foundation is layed? love your interactions with trent's description comments and notes.

I had a chance to try the Dark Arts when I visited the Breckenridge distillery and it was an absolutely beautiful dram. Didn't get a bottle, but I left with their Two Clans bottling. An American and Highland Scotch blender malt.

Blue Peak is a great starting point. Look for Bear Fight also, I'm not sure about it's availability but I keep a couple bottles on hand.

If you like smoky whiskey, I definitely recommend getting your hands on a bottle of Andalusia Stryker or Balcones single malt(love the peated release) if you can.

I love Love LOVE the Stranahan’s blue label as a daily. I’ve been trying to put everyone on it that’ll listen. It’s their solera process so almost an infinity bottle. Cask strength is super too!

Better than the Barrell Foundation you showcased, I would highly recommend their Seagrass Rye. It's RIDICULOUS. And I'm not a rye guy. But it's aged in, among other things, apricot brandy barrels. It's incredible.

It is more the amount than how many days per week. Also waiting until after work and after driving. Go-to budget bourbon for me- 100 proof Old Grand-Dad. Cheap mixer- 80 proof Old Grand-Dad. Friday night pour- more 100 proof Old Grand-Dad. Impress a guest- one of the Smoke Wagon. Special occasion- Hardins Creek Frankfort (I live in Frankfort), or Makers Mark Cellar Aged. My wife is an amazing cook and baker, so having her bring something to a party impresses more than a bourbon off the store shelf.

I strongly recommend Bird Creek Distillery in Portland, OR as they have an awesome singlee malt whiskey. Also, if you can, try to head to eastern Kentucky and pick up Brothers Wright coal mine aged whiskey. Also, I love the Iowa representation in the line-up!

So … 3 friends and I were driving back to Virginia after 5 days in Louisville and I told them we had one more stop… Glenn’s Creek Distillery. I think you guys had just come from there and did the GC tasting flight video.. Dave was on vacation and there was a younger guy behind the counter. The four of us did a tasting along with a couple from Wisconsin that rolled in right behind us. Halfway thru the tasting an older gentleman rolls in and says “I’m here to pick up my special bottle”. Young guy behind the counter disappears in the back and comes out with a bottle in a brown paper bag. Then the old guy turns to us and says “If you can get one of these… buy it”. Long story shortened… I too now have an OCD #5 Premium!!! And GOOD LORD am I glad I do! Thanks SLB for the Glenns Creek tip and thanks old-timer for letting the brown bag secret out.

The best Rye Whiskey I've had in a LONG time is Fenwick Farms 5yr Cask Strength Rye. Small and commonly overlooked distiller out of Rensselaer,In. Do NOT sleep on this bottle of you're a Rye fan!! I'd be happy to send you guys a sample.

There is only one answer for the American Single malt to impress friends...Jack Daniels Twice Barreled single malt. It's by far and away the best American Single Malt I own or have sampled. There are some good bottles out there but it has a good color, great malt flavors without the malt funk, and I could see Irish/Scotch malt haters actually enjoying it.

I think Westland is a must for the ASM category, from your picks only tried Stranahan's Blue Peak and Cedar Ridge which I found as nice and interesting Single Malts. Sorry to hear WR is not 100% malted barley, as soon as legislation gets approved it won't qualify as ASM. Finally, a couple of days ago had the chance to taste Balcones Peated and was really impressive.

My wife would say that actually it is correct to say "with Trent and me" :) because we never say "with I" in reference to ourselves - only with me.. So because you're saying "down here with Trent" you have to say "and me" if you want to include yourself. If you say something about you and Trent another way where you would normally use I for yourself, then you say I, so Trent and I want to try such and such a bottle.. 😉😊

I think everyone’s gonna have a different “daily-drinker” that changes every few months. Basic Buffalo Trace is my current daily, because it’s $24 and so easy to drink - good flavor, no sharp alcohol bite.

It would be great if this state could somehow exchange ship the excess to a state that has plenty of say, Early Times Bottled in Bond, because there's zero distribution for that here. I know people make a big deal about the Early Times black tops, but here are my thoughts. Both arguments are valid. Is it the same juice? Yes. Can it still taste different because there is another person blending it? Yes. Do I personally notice? Can't say. We don't get it here so my sample size is not large enough to make a determination.
