This is one of the trickier obstacles to take on when you are getting used to clip studio. I would definitely consider this an intermediate technique. What are some of the more challenging Clip Studio hurdles for you?

Yeah, it wasn't about quality. Just a much, much faster and far more flexible workflow. Most of the things you mention could be greatly simplified and sped up. In any case, it's fun watching you ink, digitally or otherwise. I gotta do a video--! ;)

Ive just been using the straight line ruler for my panel boarders..came here to understand the ellipse tool and picked up another time saver. Thanks Rich!

Hey, did you know, there's also a curve ruler, where you can draw any sort of ellipse ruler. It has a nice effect, because you can vary the line weight, when drawing the line.

yeah totally...it's cool. I felt like this was a tricky thing when you first start messing around with clipstudio and it seems the easiest to find and try so I think a lot of newbies drift towards this tool! (maybe not but for me I would think this was my main option for those types of challenges on a page) thanks Slothy!

Great video Rich! - I have a little tip with the bucket fill tool, if you add a pixel or two in the area scaling, you wont get that weird white halo around your fill. Those white halo's drive me nuts lol..

welp. you can learn the ellipse tool...it's a little tricky at first and can cause a lot of headaches working with it until you get the hang of it!

@@RichardFriendartist truth! It's trickier because I can't use shortcuts, tho it all makes sense...I just go about it the long way 🤪

I'm enjoying these and hope to see more insight into clip studio paint. I work using this app pretty much exclusively when not doing traditional art. P. S. Walden Wong just did a video about removing blue lines from scanned line art using a technique I don't remember seeing before, so I came to your channel looking for your technique. It must be a false memory because I can't find one here.

Hey there... You should use the panel border tool or a vector layer for the panel borders. You can then edit the shape after the fact without any loss in line quality, as well as change the weight of the lines after the fact as well. Same with the elipse, if you use a vector layer, that way transforming it doesn't affect the lines quality. Plus you can change the shape of the elipse (or any line based tool on a vector layers) on a point by point basis all without affecting the quality of the lines which is what happens with the raster layers. You can also set up a perspective grid so the elipse will naturally take the shape in perspective, including perfect circles while holding shift. Also on that blue pencil layer, as long as you set the layer to blue, you'll instantly know if you accidentally ink on it, as everything turns blue. I actually set all my layers to their respective colors, so that way I can only draw in black layer on a black, white on a white layer, and I set different colors for pencilling different elements to keep an eye on what II'm doing with pencils. I've been penciling and inking in clip studio for about 8 or 9 years at this point and wouldn't go back, the benefits are overwhelming. Not sure I would have survived batgirls working on paper again :D

@@neilgooge yeah I mean I am clearly no clipstudio expert but I did work in the program for about 14 months and did about 120 pages of pencils and inks with it. It did print great but maybe my work methods are odd. I just kind of figured out things on my own with the help of a few youtube videos I am sure and went for it. haha. I remember doing the first page and thinking...dude you are going to try and draw a comic in this program and you basically only know where the brush and pen tools are...and I really knew nothing else. But it did end up working for me. I am not going to ever do a comic digitally again. I like having original art too much! haha
@artbycarlgookins Жыл бұрын
This is helpful. You work at 600dpi? I have mostly worked from 300 to 400. Is that a personal preference or is print higher than 300dpi these days?
@neilgooge Жыл бұрын
At DC at least (I pencil and ink batgirls) its the standard print resolution... So I personally actually draw print size at 600dpi. Even working traditionally, most people draw double size, scan at 300dpi, then convert to 600dpi which takes it down to print size at 600dpi.

nice. I try and talk fast so I don't bore people. lol
I'll use them in the next video. I did 125 sequential pages (both pencils and inks) with my method and they looked perfect printed in published comic work...so vector may work but I've seen my digital inks in print using the raster layers and they look excellent...so both are acceptable it seems...but vector may be more efficient for workflow. Thanks Kevin!!

@@RichardFriendartist Yep, it's not about quality, just much greater speed and ease of use. CSP combines the best worlds of Vector apps (like Adobe Illustrator) with some crazy Japanese tech.
@thevasic Жыл бұрын
@@RichardFriendartist Yeah it's all about what works for you but inking on a vector layer will give you far more options for manipulation and clean up. CSP is an incredible program for making comics (so affordable) but get it while you can i think they are about to move to a subscription base model for the program, which a lot of people are unhappy with.
