What a great discovery this little documentary. Despite being seen as a sitcom my granny (who had been a real life parlour maid in London in the 1920s just like Ivy) said the depiction of upstairs / downstairs life was spot-on. Servants on the fiddle, rivalries, servant hierachy; the gentry either set in their ways (Meldrum), or buffoons (Teddy) or rebels (Cissy). It was an extremely well planned and well conceived world, which they also succeeded in making very funny and entertaining. A brilliant series.

I absolutely loved this show at the time and I recently discovered it again on a certain tv streaming app and I've started binge watching it and it's still just as hilarious, everybody and everything is on top form from the brilliant writiing, the actors giving it their all and everyone behind the scenes from makeup, wardrobe and the fantastic sets, props etc, it is like stepping back in time. I may be biased but nobody recreates historical dramas like we Brits, every attention to detail is given the works. As funny as this show is, I somehow get the feeling that it never quite made it into the " Comedy Classics" Hall Of Fame like that of Lloyd & Croft's earlier comedies, however it doesn't by any means make it any less enjoyable. This is brilliant laugh out loud British humour at it's best and I absolutely love it although it would have been nice if the BBC had included such clips as this alongside outtakes of the show in with the Dvd extras but it doesn't come as a real surprise as the BBC aren't exactly known for their generosity when it comes to their Dvd extras!!

Love this show. It was shown here in Sri Lanka when it came out we enjoyed it thoroughly. Sadly we don't have a way to tape it as it's not available here. Except for the snippets on YT, I don't know how to watch it.
