I think we had to start with what mental illness is. I think he started with the perception that being trans is an illness. So we define illness as the deviation from typical behavior to the extent that it impedes normal day to day activities, like work, or sleep or something. Being trans itself does not impede normal day to day activities, so it is not an illness. Being different from normal itself is not an illness.

I’m sure in a society where everyone was gay, we could easily work out an arrangement where a gay couple wanting a kid could get an egg donated from a lesbian, and use a surrogate, or maybe even a “test tube baby”. Or, if we’re talking about a gay couple with a trans man and a cis man, and the trans man hasn’t had bottom surgery, then they could just have a baby the “old fashioned way” And honestly even if everybody suddenly became gay back before all that technology, they’d probably still work out civil arrangements to have plutonic sex with opposite sex partners for the sake of procreation. Plus obviously that’s all besides the point anyway, because the idea that 100% of society will ever be gay is just insanely unlikely to begin with. But just saying, humans could probably still manage to procreate if everyone was gay. Would just be a little bit more involved 🤷🏼‍♀️

It has been proven (in very unethical) experiments that cis people experience gender dysphoria if they're raised as a different gender than they identify. People don't appear to be trans because they have gender dysphoria, but rather experience gender dysphoria because they are the gender they are identifying as, but are living under conditions that make them feel dissonance, such as feeling too masculine or feminine, or being forced to present as a gender they don't identify as

True. I think a certain part of it is pathological, but a lot of what we call dysphoria is purely social. Like if we lived in a hypothetical society that was completely gender abolitionist and trans-inclusive, dysphoria would be a lot less common and severe because more trans people would be more comfortable having features that didn't quite match their assigned sex.

I am not saying gender dysphoria doesn't exist. The DSM-5 lists more than just illnesses. The word 'disorder' was even removed from the diagnosis in the DSM-5 due to stigma around the term Gender Identity Disorder. I hope that clarifies my point.
