Evan Bloomfield in most jazz bands they leave room for improvisation, and they’re most lax with drummers out of the whole band cuz it adds that much more feel to the entire song. I know you probably heard of this before, but on the Cuphead OST, the drummer adds ghost notes, extra mini fills in between key and tempo changes, and of course, garbage fills at the end of pretty much every boss theme.

Atomic Apple yeah our drummer was in fitness so he never came to rehearsals and stuff but he still played to drums for the jazz band at our Xmas concert thing and it still sounded great with the improv. That’s the thing I love about jazz on the drums (even tho I’m a trumpet) you just gotta know a little bit about what you need to do and then you can just be free and nobody cares because it’ll still sound good lmao

Yep! As a drummer in my jazz band i Can attest to this. My first year in jazz I was criticized the entire time in our judge notes for festival. They were very upset that I was playing exactly what was on the sheet music. Since then I always look at the sheet music for the first couple rehearsals and then never again. Jazz is about vibing out and playing what you want. If you like how this drummer plays, mimic it! Listen to his fills and rhythm and try to copy it with your own little flare. Just vibe out and have fun. That’s the point
