The evade vs block argument is truly an argument of preffered playstyles which I think people forget and what the benefits are for choosing any of the defensive options in the game (evade, evade assist, parry/block, defensive assist). To me blocking is more satisfying which is why I use ben also I use koleda which is a must together (also cause he is cool lol)

Hitting that perfect block is just soooo satisfying, but Jane Dodges are super smooth as well. For me, Hoyo is doing a great job on both playstyles

It's also just cool that he joins for Koleda's animations and gives her s to make getting her full combos off easier. I get why people worry more about speed clears in a gacha where most of the gameplay is just grind, but I love my Ben/Koleda/S11 team because it's just fun parrying and timing fire suppression attacks

Possible upgrade for Impact Ben, if you choose to get it, is Caesar's W-engine. It's 100% compatible with him. More impact, bigger shield, more daze and ATK buff. Add in his additional skill that gives a solid chuck of crit% with a belobog/fire partner and he's becomes a great buffer for the team.

I'm running my Ben with 2p Swing Jazz, 2p Hormone Punk, and 2p Inferno Metal with signature engine focusing stats on defense and crit stats and I think I've seen his parry hit an enemy as hard as 1.8 million. And then he just goes away for 30s while buffing the rest of the team. Man is a powerhouse support unit and helped me clear Withering Garden 11

In my opnion, i think caesar will help a LOT ben versatility. Because she can be both a support and stunner, taking the weakness of Ben wasting a slot in the dps/stunner/support core team, giving you the opportunity to use a team of Main dps/ Sub Dps(Ben) /Stunner+support(Ceasar).

4 Soul Rock 2 Shockstar + his sign w-engine is my current build for Uncle Ben, and he's hitting like truck so far (also high daze to quickly stun enemies). Everytime his energy isn't good enough to using his parry from ex skill dodging is good choice as that's his 2nd source of fire damage.

Glad you're enjoying Ben! But the 4pc effect from Soul Rock doesn't help with his damage or daze tho, highly recommend to change it to another 2pc set (such as Inferno Metal or Swing Jazz)

So what exactly are his best teams? And does running him as a dps be such a heavy drop-off of damage from other dps units? I'd love to run Koleda with him once I get her for their teamwork but like you'd want an actual main dps unit next to them right? Who would go in that slot?

Short Answer: Ben/Piper/Lucy and S11/Ben/Lucy. Ben/Koleda/Lucy feels weird since Koleda is the one getting buffs. Running him as a DPS isn't a huge drop-off but since you'll need another DPS, you'll need to build two units and this can take a lot of time. Detailed answer: I didn't thought too much on his teams because it can be quite flexible depending on the role you're trying to fit him. I've been running Ben (Crit Build)/Piper/Lucy as a team since 1.0, and clearing Shiyu Defense without a problem. But you can also use a Mono Fire Team with S11/Ben/Lucy, S11/Ben/Koleda or Ben/Koleda/Lucy, but honestly, I don't like Ben/Koleda unique interactions. It's fun to see combined attacks in the field, but Koleda is the one getting a unique Ultimate, not Ben, and I don't think going for DPS Koleda is the best idea. I don't own Koleda so that's just my opinion, no calcs to back up this. As for his DPS, it's not bad. The issue is that his burst window is basically Chain + Ult and everything after that deals underwhelming damage (Basic Attacks, EX Specials without Blocks). When you compare to units like Zhu Yuan/Corin (who gets a longer burst rotation that fits on the stun duration), and Ellen/S11 (Sustained DPS through the whole fight), Ben feels... incomplete? As long as you pair with someone who doesn't requires a lot of setup or using the ultimate for a burst of damage, it works. Sorry for the super long answer, hope it helps! 🫡

ben is like zzz xinyan, fire element but also focuses on physical for some reason, mid shield, and hybrid scaling, hes still not as useless tho thankfully lol, im determined to max him out on my account

Is the synergy with Koleda just bait then? I don't think you even brought it up once.

All of the synergy is in Koledas kit so Ben doesn't really care if she is in the team except for her being same element and/or faction for the additional ability

As @@CombatPandaZenlessZoneZero pointed out, all of the extra multipliers are in Koleda's kit. Ben gets nothing from it and even for Koleda it feels completely weird. All you get is a small DMG Multiplier for someone who's not even going to build damage.

Nope, that's why I don't recommend running Swing Jazz on him unless he's the only "support" in your team
