Don't feel that a painting without cells is a failure or a waste of paint, think of it as a base layer for another attempt at a pour or even as a background for an acrylic painting, a landscape or a floral, or abstract, etc. I have repainted over many canvases that did not come out as I had hoped but then became good paintings because I repurposed them

I was going to agree with others, but decided to make this more prominent. You do a fantastic job in explaining WHY to do things! I really appreciate that! You explain what will happen if you do x, y, or z. As an engineer, I love how you experiment and break down what you’ve learned!!! I have watched hundreds of videos over the last three months, and I have enjoyed them, but I have learned MORE from your videos than anyone else’s videos. Your videos about how the thickness of paint affects the final outcome…how the amount of paint per layer affects the outcome…the opacity of the paint and how to layer them so the translucent paint is not muddied…the amount of paint to use by area…and this video on how to get the cells you want using silicone….I could go on and on! I have to admit, I am still trying to learn the blowdryer technique! I have watched your video a few times, and it has really helped me understand what angles will do what to the paint!!! My issue there is STILL viscosity! But I will get there. 🙃 You are a natural born teacher, my friend! I am SO glad KZbin directed me to your channel!!! I sincerely thank you!!!

WONDERFUL explanation of silicone oil! This is a huge help because my paints are also thick. I just did my "first" pour and I obviously didn't get the silicone right. They still turned out beautiful, but my paint was still too thick because it wouldn't blow with a blowdryer. Honestly, this is harder than it looks. It's not just a matter of mixing paint with pouring medium until it's thin enough and then adding silicone. Still learning.

I find you extremely helpful with acrylic pours and very relaxing, so I am watching all of your videos and am atarting a list, my next two questions are: 1)what are other reasons (if any) to use a torch? 2) Which is better a torch or a hair dryer?
@LeftBrainedArtist Жыл бұрын
Torches and heat guns are used to break the surface tension and allow cells to form easier. That is really the only reason to use heat on your pour. Using a torch and using a hair dryer are used for complete different things. The torch heats up the surface as I mentioned above. The blow dryer moves the paint around (I alwasy recommend using a blow drying on cold or warm and not hot).

Thanks for another informative video. Appreciate you doing these for us. I really like the one with the caterpillar cells, beautiful colors. I look forward to the Saturday morning videos. The base coat is a pretty color, and this turned out really awesome.

I wish the cells were a bit bigger but I didn't account for the heat here so it dried up as I was tilting more than I wanted. Every painting you learn more, even years after starting.

Thank you for explaining this so fabulously! It makes so much sense now on how to use it more predictably.
