Soylent Green is ultra processed “food” 😂. 36 years with MS. The doctor is correct. Listen to him! Another video idea: make a list of common ultra processed foods that patients might have in their home right now. List of common restaurants I.e. “fast food” that have ultra processed foods. Great video! Thank you!

I’ll never get over how my parents were the only people in my whole extended family to eat so much ultra processed food. They fed me it growing up when everyone else was telling them it’s unhealthy, because they’re lazy fucks and they even take pride in it-they tell the family they’re “too stuck up” and “cheap and broke” for never eating out or eating prepackaged foods. While all my cousins ate real food, my mom would buy a box of granola bars and that was dinner for the month. It always made me feel sick even as a kid, and I developed GI issues as a teen. Now, as a young adult, I’m the only person in my Asian family line to ever get MS. MS is very rare in East Asians if you’ve seen the stats. It was incredibly unlikely that someone with my genetics would develop it except my parents fucked me over at every possible turn. It didn’t help that when I started getting MS symptoms as a teen they berated me for making stuff up even while I was going blind from optic neuritis. They told me I was worthless and lazy and out of shape when I started feeling weakness and fatigue. I was diagnosed nearly 10 years too late, after many years of obvious symptoms that my lazy fucking parents ignored.

Since my MS diagnosis 28 months ago, I've quit smoking cigarettes, exercise daily, cut 98% of processed food from my diet, started gardening, lost 40lbs so far, been taking trulicity because they found I was a diabetic. All this, is keeping my MS quiet and me feeling wonderful for the future.

Also diagnosed with PPMS in 2018 & I try to eat mostly vegan (but if not available I will eat vegetarian). The more dirt ya gotta wash off the food… the better it is for ya. Meaning.. grow your own is better. IMO. It’s so hard these days. Luckily, my Ma raised us as to grow our own/ or try to as best we can- or buy locally grown. The damn government has been killing us for years! Bastards! I’ve been telling my kid this for years. Finally people are saying this and he sees I’m not nuts 🌰. Or less nuts. 🌰

Thank you for another eye opening video dr. Boster. I read about diets that are supposed to be good for pwMS but find them too complicated and intrusive to follow for extended periods. Avoiding Ultra-processed foods is a lot easier to live by. I do have a question. When you say 'a lot of processed foods' how much is 'a lot'? For instance, when I eat a salad, I like to make it fresh, but I'll also add a store-bought dressing and possibly some pre-packaged croutons or salted nuts. Do I need to cut those as well?

Thanks Dr. Boster, I have MS and I love JF, but I know how harmful it is to my body. I get picked on all the time for my 'pure' eating = like I'm weird.I do 5 ingredient and expiration date; long exp. means chemicals. I am judged all the time for my home cooking/driving past fast foods. It seems food choice is like religion or politics or sports team. I cook from scratch; have help chopping due to MS. If I 'cheat' I pay. The body knows! It took 3 mths to get off sugars, salts, want junk. No withdrawal, slowly changed whole diet. SPMS after 23 yrs diagnosed. More info would be great. Thank you for all you do.

What do you recommend as a milk substitute? I am doing the Overcoming MS diet, which stipulates no dairy and instead recommends soy or almond milk. I chose soy milk, but it contains acidity regulators. I live in Australia, so the brands available in the US won’t be available to me. Also, do you agree with Dr Jelinek that: “Several cow’s milk proteins have been shown to be targeted by the immune cells of PwMS. Injecting them into experimental animals has caused lesions to appear in the CNS of the animals. Other researchers have demonstrated how certain proteins in cow’s milk mimic part of myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein, the part of myelin thought to initiate the auto-immune reaction in MS. Consuming cow’s milk products is best avoided for people with MS.” What do you think of this statement? Thank you for your time.

That’s kinda what I thought, too. There’s lack of access, food deserts, and time. Cooking takes time and with the current economy, unless you’re doing well, many people simply don’t have it. He’s totally right that ultra processed food is bad. But the reality is that there’s a trade off here that’s not being mentioned: if you want to eat healthy, you need access, money, and time. Sure, buying ingredients in bulk and meal prepping in saves money in the long run but it ignores the fact that you have to spend MORE money upfront until you have the things you need. Poverty and health outcomes are closely related. There’s a reason: lack of access, education, and lack of resources.
