This is available in Australia. Looks like a great laptop if 14" is big enough. I quite like the display size. Curious about the speed of the SSDs. This is "discounted" at $1,999 AUD here in Australia. A comparable laptop is the MacBook Air M3 for $2,099 (8-Core CPU, 10-Core GPU, 16GB Unified Memory, 512GB SSD). The equivalent M2 MacBook Air (which I still have) is currently available for $1,899 AUD (or 1,719 AUD from the Apple Education Store) - this originally cost me $2,349 AUD in late 2022.

the display size is perfect for me as I wanted something bigger than a handheld for coding reasons but still small enough to be portable

@@WildEva yeah, I like the 14" display too. I use a MacBook Air at the moment that's 13.6" and I previously had a 13.3" one. I plug it into a monitor when I need more screen real estate!

I've used Windows all my life, but £1450 for a Lenovo to come close to a MacBook Pro M4 is insane. I've had screen hinge failures on Yoga Slim machines (it's well documented, there is a class action lawsuit) I'm honestly at the point where I might just buy a MacBook and give up throwing money at lower build quality Windows devices that cost nearly the same anyway.

Great review. For some reason, the IPS version of this laptop still has a 2280 slot. Lenovo should have redesigned the motherboard for the igpu version. It would be much lighter and probably an extra m2 slot too.

I have had this laptop since early November 24 with 32GB/1TB, bought without windows at 1150 euro (italy). All in all it is a good laptop, the screen is really a great display, nice colors, good brightness, just a bit too reflective. I had some youthful problems with the amd video drivers, with the screen occasionally flickering while watching videos, all things fixed at the time of writing. The color space setting (from lenovo vantage app) was also not working at first, but fixed a short time ago by lenovo. Other than that, I immediately replaced the network card with an AX210, the RZ616 honestly had disappointing performance in wifi6 and wifi5... Regardless, I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good laptop with nice specs and good build quality

@@Zio_Cook how is the battery life on ubuntu my buddy? Does it last long or degrade significantly compared to windows? And can I set a charging threshold for it? @ So, for clarity i use windows 11 (i only tested for my personal curiosity linux), and in balanced mode it should last me 8h with my usage (my pc has never reached 0% battery). If you want more battery, you can limit TDP with x86 tuning utility, then, you can go above 8h. This cpu scales so well with wattage that with only 15/16W it performs similarly to my desktop i7-9700K, even better sometimes. It depends on usage, fyi theese are wattages switchable with Fn + Q: Eco: 25W PL1 / 35W PL2 Balanced: 40W PL1 / 54W PL2 Performance: 60W PL1 / 71W PL2 Dunno if from linux you can limit tdp... For the fan noise, if you aren't gaming on this thing, you'll be never hear the fans, they turn on very rarely or when you wake the pc from sleep, but for a short time; and when they turn on the fan curve is very soft, never heard them honestly. AI thing: the only thing i saw using Ryzen NPU was windows studio effects for the camera, didn't tried llm's or such things

To me, 14 inch means portable, you carry it from one place to another, otherwise small screen sucks. So you never know the angle of the light or what position you hold your laptop so that the screen doesn't flash. There must be options between glossy or matte, but manufacturers often does not bother.

When you say this model was very similar to the one you reviewed a few months ago (equivelent to the Ideapad 5 Pro) you don't actually mean the build quality is the same, right? I was expecting a Yoga pro 7 or Pro 9 or maybe a Legion 7 with one of the 5xxx GPUs, but as I saw at CES, it's exclusively OLED. I work with a lot of static content and I don't want to worry about burn-in. I know there are software techniques for that, but it really hurts the saleability later. For example, I wouldn't buy a used laptop.

Here is the problem. Ai NPU on any PC unless its CUDA/nVidia is nerfed and is ONLY good for face/fingerprint use. If & when (or ever) AMD/Intel and now ARM get the NPU libraries made to work with local LLMs it wont matter as the SIZE of LLMs are now bigger than the mezzly 4gb they set asside for iGPU/NPU (its shared) and most iGPU are no slouches now too. So its MARKETING and someone needs to make videos on the state (or lack) of any support outside of say 12-32gb nVidia cards! As for the rest of the video, Im typing this on a LENOVO and my BIGGEST gripe is the ball-clutching of its horrible BIOS updates! How in 2025 anyone can mess-up as much as Lenovo do on downloading and SAFELY installing a bios update amazes me and I have had several Lenovos and they all suffer from this problem! Anything that wont often work ort will brick a laptop is a hard pass for me, so I turn it off, BIOS updates. BTW Im a PC guru and do this all day every day and its that bad I have to warn others!
@ytnimal9 күн бұрын
The NPUs are not there to run full AI models. Its there to enhance the experience which will be baked into future apps. Just like how CUDA helps in Gfx or Intel iGPU helps in encoding and decoding. NPU are for lighter tasks which CPU will take time to do. CPU can off load it to NPU. Also for most consumers a simple 7B Local LLM model is enough. Power users are also better off using something in the cloud, but if they are worried about privacy then yes spend more upfront and get a better Laptop with higher VRAM or something from Apple with unified solution. Maybe make a server at home and remote login to it. But i agree the naming schemes are cringe.
@MnemonicCarrier9 күн бұрын
That's not entirely true. There's one company working on real time subtitle generation for videos and video calls using the NPU. Another company is working on real-time translation for voice calls - and this will be done using your own voice (instead of a robotic one). I'm sure other developers will come up with other useful things to do on the NPU. AI isn't just Large Language Models.

Yes, AMD is the worst now. Apple is at the top, followed by Intel, Snapdragon (close), and then AMD. For ultrabooks like this, battery life is probably more relevant than a bit more performance from AMD.
