I think that one of my favorite details with Jazz is that before his fight with Megatron, since Optimus was preoccupied, Jazz was actually in charge of the Autobots. When Megatron appears, Jazz sees him and immediatly gets infront of all the humans and autobots, putting himself in front of Megatron, as he was the leader, he had a responsiblity to fight Megatron and hold him off until Optimus returned. He was able to do this with minimal casualties for the Humans, at the cost of his own life.

Because of the Matrix of Leadership from Revenge of the Fallen. Although we do not see it anymore. It is probably still restored in Optimus's Spark cavity, as it's said that the Matrix of Leadership prevents him from being killed. Evidence supports these when Lockdown pushes Optimus' sword straight into his chest and surviving a powerful blast through the chest but still capable regenerate his wound. In later sequel, Optimus Prime ran out energon but was awakened once his body had crash-landed on Cybertron.
