Very smart. Cost/benefit analysis. I quit drinking about 5 months ago and the overriding gain, for me, has outweighed the negatives. Everyone of course is different but I don't miss it as much as I thought I would. Regarding your message however, spot on. What may be easy for some might not be as easy for others and people shouldn't be shamed into changing their lifestyles.

Firstly, congratulations to you! I quit alcohol several years ago and it was liberating, so liberating, given I never had to buy that Guinness or Pinot with the daily grocery runs. Plus more importantly my body thanked me for it. Awesome, awesome post Karate Shrimp! Thank you!

I think I really needed to hear this. I've been feeling like I've been in Survival mode for a very long time. (This year has been a huge year of loss for me for a lot of reasons including losing my mother.) One of the things I'm struggling to get back into is continuing my Karate training. I've been a Nidan (Meibukan GoJyu Ryu -IMGKA) for about 8 years (my current Sensei didn't receive his Yondan until last year) and when I've approached him to ask for guidance to see what I'm missing, I get "Just keep training... Don't worry about your grading... You have no right to ask or question it...". This has left me feeling very frustrated and lacking any accomplishment, which then has made me feel horrible and then I don't want to train at all. It also doesn't help having ADHD because it feels even more like an uphill battle to try and motivate myself to come in and train. Any thoughts on how to deal with this resentment? (I'm also going to Japan and Okinawa for the last two weeks of Nov, spending 4 days in Okinawa for seminars, a tournament and an IMGKA celebration of Dei Sensei). P.S. I noticed in your photo that you also have a Meibukan crest. Are you still affiliated with IMGKA? It's cool either way.

I'm so sorry for your loss. ❤️ I went through that 3 years ago, losing my mom, dealing with other stress at the time, and I struggled with motivation for a very long time. I totally understand how difficult it is. You're carrying a lot. Training can be tough to do regularly or even at all when you have a lot going on in your life. No shame in that. You're doing the best you can considering. As for your Sensei, I'd feel frustrated in that situation too. I can see that having something to strive for could be incredibly helpful for you right now. I wonder if your Sensei would be more understanding if he knew what you're going through, and how much having specific things to work on and work towards could help you be consistent with your training. If he doesn't know the whole picture, he might think you're just focused on rank (as some students are). I don't know how open your Sensei would be to this type of conversation, but it might be helpful. As for me, I'm no longer an active Meibukan member. I quit the dojo I was at a couple months after my mom passed. (Explained in other videos.) I'm just training on my own for now. One day I'll get a karate shrimp crest and redo my channel photos. 😂 Anyway, thank you for being so open about what you're going through. I appreciate you sharing. 🙏

@@TheKarateShrimp Thank you! I think I've realized I've been holding a lot of things in that I shouldn't. I can understand leaving a dojo as I've been debating this for a while. I'd hate to leave Meibukan because originally I had found a home in the organization years ago and there are not a lot of IMGKA dojos in Ontario. (I'm from Kingston). But sometimes our journey takes us in a different direction. It may be in that case for me. I'm new to your channel, so I'll look for that video and watch it. I found you via Master Ken's video (awesome innuendos, btw) and I've enjoyed your content on IG. Keep being awesome, and thank you for reading my ramblings.
