In rpg's, the game predicts what level you will be at and scales the monsters up for that area. If you for example grind in the previous area you can see your progress because the enemies in your current area are easily defeated. In cases like pokemon, getting attached to your pokemon is not out of the ordinary and you'll want to make them stronger.

I really like RPGs. I like getting to know all of my party members abilities and bringing out each of their strengths. It makes me feel even more attached to them. I like that they tend to be long, because if I like the gameplay, the characters, and the setting enough, then of course I want to spend as much time with it as possible. I especially love it when an RPG has good post-game content. Test my grasp of the mechanics with bonus dungeons and bosses, give me a reason to keep exploring this world you created! And I really love an out-there plot. This is a fictional world, after all, you can have all kinds of crazy stuff happen. I’ll be honest though, I don’t really understand what “action RPGs feel like hack-n-slashes with numbers” means? Maybe I have a hard time figuring out where the “line” is because genres are so vaguely defined. I’ve been thinking about it for like an hour, but honestly it probably doesn’t matter all that much. Which genre is Kingdom Hearts II? [shrug] Whatever it is, it is one of my favorite games. Anyway, it’s always cool to see people branch out and try different types of games. Wonder how I should branch out? Maybe by playing horror games?

Besides that being a good joke, it actually ties in to another joke from another Scott the Woz episode a while back where Scott makes a joke about going to prison, and said he met a guy named Jerry...keep in mind that was before any of the Dark Age of Nintendo videos. Scott is a genius.
