Yup. Nice guys finish last. Common courtesy and being respectful is a good start. I used to laugh at the phrase GTL from the show Jersey Shore, but it made sense (gym, tan, laundry). Also, be knowledgeable and supportive of other people's interest.

I’m cis-gender female and 65… I’m here because BuzzFeed posted this today. I can say with certainty that I behaved the same way from lack of confidence almost all my life - it’s not just males that suffer in this way. I do believe they may suffer more in some ways than women do, though. Cliché maybe, but the struggle is REAL. Great work, Dargoyaki! 👩🏻‍🦳

This just proves that in the scene of dating physical looks still trumps personality.☹️ Also I feel just because u didn’t dated at all in middle/high school u should think lowly of yourself or brand yourself as a loser. You are more than just that date/Exgf count. You can suck at getting dates but be exceptional at sth else. I think it is more important for teens to realise different people excel at different things and getting dates is just one of the many things. And from there work on their strong points to built that confidence.

I mean, two things can be true at the same time. You can be genuinely nice with no ulterior motives while being disadvantaged by societal norms. And the solution is not to just be happy with self improvement and be content without a relationship. Sure those things are great and highly recommended but that doesn’t solve the problem which is objectively that men are taught by society that being the unattractive good guy gets you little to no romantic attention while being the attractive asshole gets you plenty of it. That’s why you see all of these pick up artist books giving people advice to “neg” the girl of their interest and not compliment them.
