I see, so MF DOOM is portraying himself as a character that represents the hip-hop industry as a whole (in attitude atleast). He's a villian just like any other rapper these days, they pretend to be your friends then send out stand ins, they don't care about you, the music, or the message all they care about is money. More and more rappers just tell you what you wanna hear so you'll buy a over-priced half-assed album. They're too afraid to be unique because it might not sell, kind of explains why not just rap but the music industry as a whole is just becoming more of the same bland garbage despite the genre.

I’ve noticed the same problem in fan-bases with other fictional characters and alter-egos that artists create as well; the fans either unknowingly or unwillingly refuse to acknowledge that the protagonist, anti-hero, or alter-ego is fundamentally wrong in in their actions and beliefs. This is because an underlying cult of personality is ultimately dogmatically accepted and fandom becomes a trap when the fans fail to understand that a personalities’ attributes can be understandable, even relatable on a heart-felt level, whilst also not being justifiable. We are all flawed and it is totally okay to relate and reflect on the worst of our impulses and desires; what is imperative to that realization however, is one’s ability to grow and accept that our darker nature is just flawed and nothing to be worshipped, but to be plodded through.

One problem I have is I've been a DOOM fan for a long time, and I've never gotten the sense that he's a well-defined character. The way he raps doesn't even sound any more villainous than half the other rappers out there. Besides, most of the people going to the shows aren't going to be super fans, they aren't going to understand the concept and they are being cheated out of their money for real. The villain might be a character, but the robbery is actually happening - all while his character isn't well defined. As I say, I'm a big fan but it doesn't mean I don't have qualms.

I'm not sure people "like" him, but, just like most music, it's definitely made to connect to. although he doesn't care about the fans well-being, he definitely cares about the "listening experience". The basis of his persona is a character that's at odds with the rest of humanity. My theory is his sending imposters to shows is an excessive reference to that character sending "Doom-bots" to conduct villainy in his place. It is interesting to think about a relationship where a rapper, raps about him using his fans, but still, the fans relating to that and buying into it. And i think that's what's appealing. He's a villain, but his humour, and at some time self deprecation seems made to be related with. It's like he's saying "i'm a piece of shit, and i'm fucking you over, but we're both, but aren't you too, somewhere inside."

Good job magne, Seriously great explanation! Oh yeah on the King Geedorah album, theres a sample about a villain in isolation creating sound weapons, and than cuts to "Music Brother ". LOL his music has great humor, rhymes, beats, levity, tone. Such Classic Music

i kinda approached his music like this after understanding madvillainy, after that i took it with a grain of salt for the fact that we’ll probably never know the true person he is without the mask but that’s pretty much the point. all about about the music and this is why he’s loved / hated

2:16 I don’t agree with getting into his music for me I was already into lyricism and stuff like that before I listened to him and started I was listening to Capital Steez, Joey Badass, and other people and then I found out about him through them and when I first listened to him I loved it the music for me was just amazing for a while and even now I can’t stop listening to him his music is just mind blowing

One small thing that I haven't seen anyone point out so I don't know if you know it or not, but Viktor Vaughn and DOOM arent the same person. They actually have a beef lol. "Phony MCs use a stand in," is a shot at DOOM. Fancy Clown is a diss song aimed at DOOM too. DOOM is a complex artist your videos are really good on him

Everything that he does is apart of the art that he does, he does the things he does to add to the Mustiqueness of the character he portrays, what he’s doing is just apart of the art form, nothing crazy or threatening. It’s the art of the Character, then when he’s serious his passion shows in interviews when he breaks down the process on how he makes the music
