On March 20, 2020, after a lengthy illness, Mr. Lee Pittman, whose angelic voice is so prominently featured on this song, joined the ancestors. About two weeks before he departed this earth, I asked him if he had fond memories of the recording session that produced this song. He did. I asked how many takes it took to lay it down. He smiled and said, "Just one." I was privileged to share the stage with Lee, several times, and for that , I am eternally grateful, but mostly, I am glad that I got to know the man behind the sound. A man that I was introduced to musically in 1973; the year of this songs release, (I was 13 years old), and personally, when I was about 35. Please, remember him kindly and keep his music alive.

Thank you, thank you brother for shedding light on this B E A U T I F U L song and title that I just stumbled on yesterday. Even though I heard three brothas krooning it (acapella) walking the concrete corridors of a State Penn, in 1977. I just thought they made it up on-the-fly. But low and behold, ironically, from time-to-time, I would "try n sing" to (myself), a small snippet of what I remembered "..,though the first time I met you, love was such a silly game." Rest in "Soul Heaven," Lee Pittman. Again, thanks, Bro. Banks.

In the year 2000, Felix Hernandez used to play this frequently on his "Rhythm Revue" program here in NYC/NJ, and when that flute would come on - da-da-DA-da-da-da - it honestly felt like flowers blooming in Spring. I LOVED this song, and I could never remember the name of it. I've been looking for it forEVER. This is my first time hearing it since 2000, it just came up on my KZbin feed. I can only imagine the memories it must bring back for someone who was old enough in 1973 to hear it on the radio, since I was 3 years old. Thank you for posting this, and my sincere condolences for the loss of your friend. He was a wonderful singer.

These guys are from Baltimore. I talked to 4 of the 5 of them this year. I grew up with their main Lead Singer Lee Pitman, and their Bass Herman Gainer. I was good friends with the whole group which also included Freddie Harper, Bobby Guy and Kenny Sawyer (who wrote many of their songs). I used to hang around with these guys in the 70s when they were doing cabarets around the Baltimore-Washington area. They are all still alive but do not sing together anymore. Lee leads it, Kenny wrote it.

My grandfather is James "Kenny" Sawyer from Baltimore MD. He actually wrote this song and is one of the members of Tomorrows Promise. My grand father loved to sing in church. Growing up I would always hear family tales about how He was a celebrity back in the 70's but I later found out that it was true. He never really spoke about the group and was a very private person in fact all of us are. My father would tell me all the stories about how he used to see his dad James Sawyer on TV as a child. It's just amazing how u can find out things that u may have never knew. Some of the group members came to my grandfather's viewing and they shared their memories about the old days when they were in the group (Tomorrows Promise). The music that they made will live on. -AJ

Lyrics to You’re Sweet, You’re Fine, You’re Everything Baby when I met you Love was such a silly game From the first time that I saw you I haven’t been the same O o you taught me how to care Made sure your love was there Catered to my every, every need Blew my mind, you did, indeed You’re sweet, you’re fine, you’re everything, to me, You’re sweet, you’re fine, you’re everything, to me, What is it you do to me, Oh oh oh mere words cannot explain My whole world seems a rhapsody It’s heaven just to call your name O o you gave me love so pure Even time can’t endure Made up your man out of words Who never thought in real life could deserve Oh oh You’re sweet, you’re fine, you’re everything, to me, You’re sweet, you’re fine, you’re everything, to me, You’re a once in a lifetime yes you are You my sunshine my brightest star You’re the four seasons of my year You’re everything and I love you dear Oh oh You’re sweet, you’re fine, you’re everything, to me, yes you are You’re sweet, you’re fine, you’re everything, to me, yes you are

I can remember slow-dancing to this gem at house parties as a teen. Such crystal-clear lead vocals. The arrangement was in that expansive, very-romantic Philly soul vein that was dominant at that time, as the torch was smoothly being passed from Motown, to Gamble-Huff-Thom Bell. Sublime.
