The 3D match engine in Football Manager does its best to represent what is supposed to happen according to the FM attributes, but sometimes it just doesn’t quite seem likely. I asked for your funniest clips and moments on Football Manager and a fair few have to do with horrible luck and match engine issues at EXACTLY the wrong time to just make it hurt more.

The problem is not how long the player went without scoring. The issue is “WHY IS HE SCORING AGAINST ME” he has never scored a goal in his 10yr career and it’s his debut match for his 9th club and he goes ahead to score my team

Regarding the first clip, I went into the last match of the Belgian league in the lead barely ahead of two other clubs, halfway through the final match my team is winning and both of them are losing… so yeah my team finished 3rd in the league

Same. Either that or holding out for narrow wins near the end of the match - my experience in FM22 is that going defensive will just give the opponents more chances to break through. Continuing to pile on the pressure with high lines and an offensive mentality is the way to go. I do lower the tempo and waste time more often, but that's it.

This reminds me of the one time I was managing West Ham and I got battered 3-0 against Ajax in the Europa League Semis(first leg). From the start of that match to the next leg, FM decided to fuck me over and give "3-4 week" injuries to all 4 of my centre backs and Declan Rice got injured during the second leg. That single handedly ruined my Europa league dreams and top 4 push.

That last one is similar to the Robert Lewandowski cross from the byline and edge of box a couple seasons ago in his record breaking goal scoring season with Bayern. and the Dortmund manager losing 6-1 to Bayern after FCB going down a man is self explainitary, I mean he is managing Dortmund and doesn't appear to be doing anything or even really showing much emotion or frustration. I would have quit and reloaded after the 3rd goal

I've lived that exact same feeling as the guy with le Havre, but for winning the league, and not only the rival got its score but in the same minute we lost our match. Worst thing? IRL situation, Camp Nou vs. local rivals espanyol, la Liga 2006/07, me in the stadium and after the whole match in tension not willing to celebrate anything, one minute before i already gave in and started celebrating. Worst sports night of my entire night. Oh! Btw, the rivals who finally won the league was of course Real Madrid. It is yet called "Tamudazo" in honor to espanyol captain Raúl Tamudo, who f*cked the sh*t out of us.

Not got a screenshot, but FM07 I needed to win against Mansfield and Blackpool to drop points against runaway winners Birmingham to get automatic promotion to the Championship. 3-0 to Birmingham at half time in the other game. I scored in the 68th minute. Missed another 3 sitters as Birmingham proceeded to hammer Blackpool 9-0. 2 minutes of injury time in my game. 91:58 Mansfield make it 1-1. Classic Grimsby.

1:17 This has happened to me in reverse. I was playing as Pas Giannena in the Greek Super League. I was winning against Olympiakos and they scored a last minute goal for the draw. My only chance to win the League was Panathinaikos(who I was the manager 5 years before, I left them after I won 3 Champions League titles with them and made them into a well established team) to lose against Apollon. I think we had the same points but Panathinaikos destroyed me in one of the head to head games so they were above me. After Olympikos scored, I saw red card for Apollon and penalty scored for Panathinaikos. Disappointed I left the game against Olympiakos without end game speech. It turns out Apollon scored two goals in 92th and 95th minute! Against all the odds, Pas Giannena became Greek Super League champion 2033-34! This was before the Greek League was divided Champions and relegation groups. Panathinaikos had lost the Champions League final to an Italian team while Apollon was just safe from relegation. I can only imagine if that happened in real life, a manager leaving the stadium like that and hearing in the radio that he won the League 😂🤣😂🤣

Just a small sidenote to the "40 yard header" clip: It's fantastic and amazing, but nowhere near 40 yards... The penalty area is 16,5 meters from goalline to the straight parallel line, so that header is maybe 22-24 meters... 40 yards would be almost at the halfway line... Still an amazing goal ;)

In FM2021 and others, I found watching the games in Classic 2D fixed all the stupid 3D animation related behaviours that constantly caused goal scoring opportunities for the other team against me. Like I'd be pulling my hair out because the guy couldn't just turn around and run back, or miss his interception due to funky animation transition. 2D Classic fixed all of that (I mean it's always been the superior way, let's be honest). I wonder if FM22 is any better in that regard. I assume not... based on these clips.

Martin Palermo once scored from a 43 yard header. It was with Boca Juniors in a match vs Velez Sarsfield on 2009. I don't know if it's a world record but i haven't any header goal from further. Anyone who hasn't seen that goal should look it up
