I was trying to run a 6 minute mile and deadlift 600 lbs a couple summers ago. The deadlift took it out of me and only had enough in the tank to muster a 6:23 mile. Good part was that I came out of the training in close to the best shape of my life.

It's interesting that you are the 2nd KZbinr I've seen who had a goal like this. Nick Simmons also had the goal for a while of doing a 500lbs deadlift and a 5 minute mile on the same day. for him a 5 minute mile is very doable, but he still hasn't hit the 500lbs deadlift. Me too. At 60, it makes little sense to be as strong as possible and ignore cardiovascular fitness - and running is as much the best tool for that as barbells are for strength. There are calculators that will age-adjust running times for all the conventional racing distances, including the mile - that would be one way to approach the combo in a "doable" way for us "mature audiences." 😉

What was also interesting that even tho you didn't max-out your DL for years you did a double-overhand grip (NO straps) and I assume you hook-gripped? World record is 3:43 so no way I'm running a 3:35 mile. Maybe a 6 minute if I try though because my leisurely no struggle pace is around 7-8 depending on how lazy I run.

My no struggle pace even when I was running a ton was like 9:30 so you're way better than I ever was. Right now it's like 11 mins flat at best. Granted I have some respiratory disorders that permanently limit me.

@@Syndicate_01 Just running and exercising in general is great for overall health regardless of how fast or how heavy so keep at it. Growing up I ran sub 6 minute miles for fun but I also swam and ran a ton and walked up to 100 miles a week just getting around. Now I'm happy with any bit I can manage. Being disabled myself in adulthood I can relate to having limitations.

@xCreepyKidsx Yeah I hear you on that. I was the "sick kid" at times growing up and was forced by my doctor to be excused from intensive gym activity etc. Was completely sedentary til I was 20. So very different childhoods. I absolutely have shit genetics for fitness but I still stay active and it's completely worth it.
