I like what she was saying about not telling obvious stories and marginalising herself. When she watches those movies that are so obvious but are meant to be “empowering” she knows how fake it all is. Telling more natural stories that still include issues that affect her just by including characters that are there because of who they are as people, not because the film maker wanted to make a statement. That will inspire and affect people more deeply and it might only be on reflection that they recognise the importance of the role rather than watching the film because it’s supposedly important. She seemed a little nervous and she really wanted to explain her vision clearly but I think the emotion was getting in the way slightly. It was clear what she meant even if she lost her way a little at the end of her explanation. And her emotion shows how much she cares, she is living the vision she has for the company. I was probably waiting for this to be an obvious “look how great and powerful us lesbians are” segment but she showed she has a lot more depth - I’m not sure Colbert fully understood though, he was more focused on being a good host.
