Is there any money in mini comics/ashcan? Or are they just fliers/pamphlets to promote your work?
@ScottSerkland2 жыл бұрын
That's a good question, Sadly a lot of times there isn't a lot of money in mini comics, however I think there is an opportunity to market them as limited edition hand-created works of art and charge a premium for the amount of effort that goes into creating them. If you want to do this successfully you might build up interest in your mini's, then run a pre-order for a limited run and a drop date, once they are gone , they are gone and charge more. You could be quite successful.

Thanks for all the great ideas. Currently working on 2 comics and the idea of doing a quick, small mini comic to give me an idea of what I can do in what sort of time, is a great idea. Also I like the idea of the little add ons and cool touches that can be added to the minis.
@ScottSerkland6 жыл бұрын
That sounds like an awesome plan. I think one of the biggest mistakes cartoonists make is to start off with an overly ambitious project. I think it's better to start small and build on that experience.

What sizes of paper do you use for mini comics?
@ScottSerkland7 жыл бұрын
For mini comics I use 8 1/2" X 11" folded then I trim them to give them a full bleed look. I make a dust cover also 8 1/2 " X 11" folded without a bleed so the finished product is 11 1/2" X 11" folded.
@-peel76337 жыл бұрын
Ok Thanks! Do you hand draw your pictures and then scan them I'm or do you draw digitally?

Typically, I pencil and ink by hand and do colors and lettering digital, but I'm looking to do more of the penciling digitally as well.

Serkworks Art Labs Thank you for your feedback. Does using art digitally look different because I'm considering that option.
@ScottSerkland7 жыл бұрын
It really depends on how good a digital artist you are. There are artist out there who can make digital inking look indistinguishable from traditional. I say use whatever tools you are most comfortable with.

@ScottSerkland7 жыл бұрын
That's great example of how diverse the subject matter in comic can be. A lot of people may say "I don't like comics" when in reality they are saying is "I don't like super heroes" because they think that's all comics can be. Comics can be as diverse as prose, but you rarely get people saying " I don't like books" A bluegrass fan may think they don't like comics but maybe they just haven't discovered your comic.
