You cover all of the sentiments I have about Crosscode in this video. I bought it on release after only seeing it on Steam's store front advertising its 1.0 release and thought the art style looked cool. Checked the store page and saw the overwhelmingly positive reviews, watched the trailer for it and knew I had to at least try it out. The first couple hours were a bit slow but after getting out into the actual meat of the game and getting some of the first quests out of the way it really started to grab hold. Being an MMO-esque game it has the typical trope fetch quests in the beginning, mostly kind of prodding at the whole premise of initial beginnings in those types of games and I loved it lol. The combat is very tight and responsive with enough options to keep it fresh with each fight, especially once you start unlocking the elements. Getting parries off and punishing a stunned enemy, dashing around them to attack a weak spot, using ranged attacks to pick off weaker enemies in the back, or just rushing head on and unleashing a special move, it all felt great. The story is unique in its own right, your pulled along enough to not give away what is actually going on yet are entertained and interested enough to want to know what happens next. I would elaborate on the story but I don't want to give anything away, there were some moments that I genuinely felt for Lea. The other characters in the game are another great factor, with great dialogue that doesn't get repetitive outside of when your in combat and you've exhausted lines that they have already said throughout fights. Just solid everything really, I couldn't find much to complain about. I had one issue when I bought it, the favorite list for items was being taken up by non-consumables that I could not remove, up to the point that I couldn't add anything I wanted to use for quick access. Made a thread on the Steam discussions tab for Crosscode and that same day the issue was adressed, then patched the following day. The devs are very active too, responding to everything they can most of the time within the first couple hours of posting. To wrap things up, I love Crosscode and you should get it if your a fan of action rpgs. The price in my opinion is a steal for what your getting, I would have paid 30 knowing what I've gotten out of it. Thank you Fevir for covering this, the devs and this game really deserve all the attention they can get.

Crosscode felt more like an MMORPG than most MMORPG's.
@damir_van_kalaz
@damir_van_kalaz 6 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I've thought before that if Crossworlds were an actual MMORPG, it would probably be one of the best ones ever made. Just to list off all the things Crossworlds has over actual MMORPGs... + Quests that eventually branch out into more varied content than simply "go here, kill this mob", sometimes ending up being their own mini-dungeons + Real-time combat without cooldowns on powers and without being locked into one spot that offers plenty of variety in what you can/cannot do + Instantaneous, free teleportation to your party members as well as any checkpoint location on the map. + The ability to create quests as a player and pass them out to other users, creating all sorts of potential. + Actual bosses that put up a fight rather than simply being a bigger enemy with more health bars and lots of AoE attacks. + Extensive single-player content without forgetting to include proper multiplayer content as well. + Raids actually utilize teamwork and communication rather than simply being a set "if you know what to do going in, nobody needs to talk" deal. + World is actually worth exploring, with one-time-open treasure chests scattered all over the place. + Guilds actually get a physical home on the map. + Full VR MMORPG allowing for full connection to your virtual character, including individual finger movement and even feeling the weather conditions. Feels like you're actually there, further emphasizing the exploration and even the interactions with other players. + Some quests have implemented NPC enemies that can actually respond to what you say and act accordingly, making for dynamic quests that could potentially liven up a player's experience with the game. + Dungeons are actually interesting, requiring puzzle-solving and exploration rather than simply being a "kill all the things and then the boss" deal every single time. + Simple, to-the-point UI rather than the clunky, cluttered UIs most MMORPGs tend to have. (Assuming the UI we see in Crosscode is the actual UI the players see in-game) + DMs are actual live holographic phone calls between you and the other player, making them feel more personal and interactive. + Seemingly no microtransactions or RNG lootboxes of any sort whatsoever. + Fair number of classes that can all hold their own, while also contributing to a party in their own unique way. - No text chat (although not necessary due to presumably not needing a mic to chat with other players via voice) - Many quests, even dungeons are instanced for single player only in an MMORPG. Overall, I'd say it'd be great.

You are the first KZbinr that I have seen so far that has ever recommended CrossCode, thank you Fevir. I have been following this game for 2 years, and have watched it develop into the excellent game it is today. This game is an instant classic in my book, and an all time favorite, however I do want everyone curious about it to understand: This game is HARD. Not only is the combat incredibly mechanically difficult at times, it also incorporates a ton of puzzle elements. Almost all of the bosses are exceptionally well thought out(save a few minibosses), with clear vulnerabilities that you have to discover(which can be a puzzle in itself). They also typically use a platforming component, attack patterns to learn so you don't get hit, and can require a lot of mechanical skill to defeat. While trash mobs are not nearly as complex, they should never be underestimated, as they can kill you just as fast as a boss if you are not focusing. The other most important part of the game is the puzzle solving aspect of the game. The puzzles are probably more important than the combat for progression overall, and if you are not in combat, you're probably solving a puzzle. Be it a jumping puzzles to get treasure while exploring areas, or dungeon puzzles to progress the story and get new abilities, puzzles are literally everywhere in CrossCode. While all puzzles and secrets aren't necessary, I would still recommend doing a good bit of the optional content, as it can have worthwhile rewards. The only other thing to consider is sometimes the puzzles can be exceptionally tedious(usually for jumping puzzles you've found out but fell by accident, making you start over), or puzzles that are exceptionally difficult that you may struggle to solve. Overall this game is a 10/10 if you like fast paced top down ARPGs, a lot of puzzle solving, and a surprisingly fun story.

Crosscode is one of my fav games of all time, easy a top 3 RPG at least. This game will become a hidden gem. I mean the quality/recognition level of this game is not fair. My one gripe with the game is that it’s sometimes difficult to judge platform heights for parkour. This usually leads to me either screwing up and trying to jump for a platform that’s too high or thinking a platform that is low enough to jump on is too high and thinking I hit a dead end. Sure you can use your vrps to figure it out, but I feel it would be better if platforms of different heights were different colors or shades.

I'm thankful for this video. Finally a relatively big channel is giving this game the praise it deserves. I finished and I started my second playthrough, in the middle of a rather chaotic adult life, just because I want to experience this game again from the start. I'm not exaggerating, every single aspect of this game is, at minimum, great: music, art, gameplay mechanics, puzzles, level design, enemy design, difficulty without reaching frustration (and they even address the occasional frustration with Adjust Mode, where you can fine tune the difficulty of the game, if you so desire). It even has the best final boss I've seen in over 20 years playing videogames. You're incredibly right when you say that everything in CrossCode is deliberate; everything has a purpose and everything is balanced: you wanna play with incredible gear withouth feeling overpowered? Boosters; you suck at dashing and doesn't mind taking a few hits? Guarding and Guard-specific modifiers; oh, you actually mind taking hits? Parrying, you can parry almost EVERYTHING, including bosses. This game, man... I could talk about this game for hours and would still have something else to say. It's nostalgic without been too appealing or too dependant on it, it's complex without being frustrated, and yet it's simple without being bland. It's amazing. Please, buy CrossCode.

This game probably saved my thesis during the phase where I couldn't get motivated. A friend recommended it to me, I played the demo and bought it the next day, knowing full-well I had a deadline, but after spending 2-3 days entirely with CrossCode, I managed to integrate it with thesis work. It was just so motivating that after a full day's work, I'd get to play it in the evening. I fucking lived for this game, highlight of my day for more than a month. Even now I play it once a week or so. Clocking in at 150h on Steam now, and just on one savegame, ehe~ Definitely **my** favourite game, and I had never even played any RPG or 2D top-down game before, or anything with fast-paced combat. It was grand to see how much better I became over time, independent of Lea's attributes and equipment. One thing that really deserves mention are the smooth controls, they just click and feel so good. No video footage can come close to the feeling you get in CrossCode combat.

I just bought this game last week, and spent the whole weekend playing it. And I'm planning on going back to playing it some more, and more, and more. Yeah, it's that good. Most of the games I've been playing haven't been holding my interest (especially the newer ones), I'll play them for a day and I don't care to go back to it anymore (yeah, even FF7 Remake!). This game is one of the few that has that 'I can't wait to play this game this weekend' type vibe, like I'm back in junior high/high school when I was a hardcore gamer. Love the music, the battle system, the story, just everything. I'm just as surprised as everyone else that this game hasn't received more praise, it's a crime.

Unfortunately, the chances for a port happening are looking very grim. CrossCode was developed with HTML5/JavaScript (even the downloadable game runs through essentially a repurposed browser), and the Switch has no browser for CrossCode to use. Nintendo doesn't look like they're going to change their minds any time soon, either. If even Netflix and KZbin couldn't get a browser for their Switch apps, I highly doubt Nintendo is going to bend their rules for "some indie game." A crying shame, really, as I can hardly think of any other game (indie or otherwise) that deserves a Switch port over CrossCode; Nintendo should be begging for it. CrossCode fundamentally is what Octopath Traveler was aiming to be, and pulls it off even better in some respects. That said, the devs themselves have said there's a "non-zero chance" of a port happening. Perhaps Nintendo's foray into online services will provide an in for CrossCode to get the port it deserves. Let's keep our fingers crossed; I for one am easily willing to buy the game twice if it happens. The game, and the devs, deserve it.

Crosscode is one of the best action RPGs to ever be made. I love Secret of Mana/Trials of Mana, Terrianigma, and Illusion of Gaia and I think Crosscode is better than all those games and it's a lot longer as well. Easily over 100 hours of gameplay if you are trying to do everything in it and it's only $20 on Steam, like I said, easily one of the best action RPGs to ever be made. Perfect graphics, perfect music, a good story, an excellent combat.

its a game that tells you to master your skills before moving on. After all, the Spheromancer class isn't popular because it is actually the most difficult class to use. Highly versatile, but it trades it for complexity. But once you get yourself in gear, man... it just feels so great. No to mention the story is something that I can really enjoy. I like reading web novels (royalroadlegends, wuxiaworld, gravitytales) and many of the stories I like are litRPG and Isekai. And this combines both in a very beautiful manner. And Lea is my 2nd favorite female game protagonist atm. When she cried, I cried. (the first is Velvet Crowe btw XD)

They added the first of post-contents in the form of modifier sliders to make combat and puzzles easier/harder(?)! It's glorious! The game is plus ultra! I lost 60 hours to it in a few days and I still can't break free from entering a trance thinking about it! Getting through it with the intended difficulty was a miraculous experience though; it teaches you everything and makes you hone your skills endlessly. But, I had the prerequisite puzzle skills and the defense build to literally become invincible without a sweat, and not everyone liked that high requirement. (don't glass cannon all defense tho; even just 10% more attack can double your damage if you've specced solely defense near the end. A new weapon quadrupled my damage in exchange for going from 540 to 430 defense and I was still invincible.)

@thisguy.-.

completing areas like that is mostly a self inflicted issue. chests are never essential, and there are tools like the chest detector late game that makes the process so much more bearable. Plus the late game doesn't really feature those kinds of side quests at all, and it's much more focused on specific unique experiences. Try replaying the game without that completionist mindset, you won't regret it
