I'm a long time 40k fan and I instantly fell in love with Warmachine the moment I saw it and played it. It's faster gameplay, smaller armies, no stupid allocation to slow the game down, games are much much shorter and less intimidating, amazing art, perfect balance of mechs and foot soldiers, cool lore...I could go on. You may also be interested in 'Infinity' by Corvus Belli. Even smaller games and damn cool models. Menoth be praised!

I suppose I meant from the angle of "new content often, new models often" it's a good time to get into it, if you are into games workshop and their release method especially. I completely agree the game is not very popular right now because of how it and it's community was treated but the removal of legacy stuff from production does in a way make it easier to get into now; you simply buy mk4 stuff. There is not enough of it yet to be bloated or confusing. I never played warmachine in it's hayday and more watched on the sidelines as it fell from grace so my perspective is not one of a veteran player returning but someone who loves steampunk robots and thinks the rules and models are neat! But I get what you are saying

Unfortunately, PP built their business on the opposite: focusing on the game and looking after the players. That's why this huge shift to a GW style of focusing on sales over the game has caused such huge damage in the community and to PPs reputation

@@theworldsays4264 Because all my friends who played for the last 3 editions quit when PP invalidated their entire collections and threw all the lore in the garbage, took over the community group and started banning anyone who had criticisms. The events in my country have gone to dozens to almost zero, the playerbase has been eradicated. We worked for years to build a community and it was crushed in one go by PP trying to save the company by killing the game

Apparently some of the Menoth have gone to the island of Zu where there is a lot of jungle and dinosaurs. Seems like their MK4 army will be awesome.

Firstly, great video. Well executed. I seriously appreciate the time and effort you spent putting this together. Secondly it hurts my heart that there aren't more videos out there like this. I'm a long time fan of this game. Was excited about the mk4 release announcement, but I only accidently found out about it. And ever since then I've had to DIG HARD to find anything about this game I use to absolutely love. Does no one at PP understand marketing? Can they afford to have one person spend a couple weeks "slap chopping" some promo videos together and putting them out there where the non-absolute-die-hard Warmachine fan base can see it? PP is really quite terrible at marketing and they should try to fix that after the negative opinion people have on them. They used to be really good at it, but their youtube and Instagram is super bare now. The golden light is that they are actively writing lots of blogs and re opened the forums on their site.

Warmachine Tactics is a game on Steam that for the most part plays like the Tabletop. G2A has keys for under $2. The games is pretty fun and I use it to learn the game without investing first. It'd be pretty cool to get people onto it for muliplayer.

Warmachine was honestly the most toxic gaming community I have ever been in. My first day I go to the gamr store and was told to buy 300 Dollars more worth of stuff and not come back until it was painted. Second time going gto the shop and multiple people told me they would not even play me until I had 50 to 100 games in and had every rule memorized. Then there was a tournament and the game store said it started at 1000 am. I show up at 9:30 and they already started and all the regulars are there playing. I am told they always start an hour early to get the scrubs put. This has been my experience in multiple cities at three different gaming stores. Good luck finding a good group.

Hey Troy. I am sorry to hear you have had such a poor experience with the Warmachine community. It is not the first time I have heard such things. People can get so obsessed with winning and competitive stuff. I'm hoping to spread more lore and hobby stuff and present the game as a less "just tourney" sort of thing. I hope that since mk4 is new and after a break as the game was almost dead that a new perspective on the game can take over.

Really sounds like the people at that store were toxic af. I've been to a bunch of LGSs and haven't experienced this ever. Quite the opposite, a lot of people would let you use proxies and stuff so you can try different armies without the huge money investment if you wanted to just test before buying. That being said, sadly I believe this game is dying and the company is driving it into the ground. They had been regularly releasing new models and many of which that weren't even released that long ago aren't even usable in MK4. It's a huge bummer when they sell their product at such a high premium and then be like "well, you can use any of those models unless you play legacy"

I enjoyed the game initially, but when I moved the new group was full of hyper competitive people that could not make a for fun list. Several of them just knew what I had for models and would just hard counter them. They also did unsportsmanlike like things like moving their models just out of range and refusing to let the game proceed until I let them alpha strike so games would go on until I said eff it. Yes, shuffling your units around to avoid a first strike is not inherently wrong. Cracking a smile like a dbag and saying we can do this all day, ensuring the game doesnt go on until they are guaranteed to win is asinine. I got tired of not being allowed to even get a hit in scooping up models that didn't even get to shoot let alone swing. My old group just wanted to have fun and never pulled crap like that. They were even willing, gasp, experiment. Also pretty sure some of them cheated because there were two guys that never rolled low and made every roll. One definitely stole my unmounted dragoon and converted it in a project. And now that PP blew up the game, I just have a worthless collection.

Either way try not think of it as useless, the models are immortal and if you put effort into them they should still make great display pieces it does suck your second group was so lame. @@coldconcept1 I'm not sure to be honest. I stopped playing after Mark 3 started because I wasn't willing to buy ever model for my armies or net list. I'm sure some models are usable. I think the group had to move. It honestly isn't a problem with just warmachine. But it wasn't a problem I was expecting after such a good starting group. The Warhammer 40k group where I used to live did the same crap. I don't understand the appeal of buying your victory with a proven tournament list. I've gotten to the point where I will only play games you can print or small density skirmish games. Just not fun to spend hundreds for no reason.

Privateer Press have the sets on their webstore, you can find it on google. If you are in the UK I do know some stores that also stock them. Unless you love the models and lore a lot and just want the models make sure to check your local area for gaming communities (wargaming, tabletop, miniatures those keywords help). Even if there is no warmachine players right away you could ask and some veterans may have collections in waiting, or you could even peak other gamers interests. Either way good luck and I'd love to hear what faction you went for!

@@coldconcept1 I haven’t bought a single space marine since the very first primaris saw the light of day, I knew back then that they were lying about first born staying in the game. But I have been playing 5th edition anyway ever since their brave reset of 8th edition dumbed the game down tremendously while increasing the amount of sheer knowledge required at least 3 fold. I wanted to give 10th edition an unbiased try, but the previews and early battle reports demonstrated clearly that the dumbing down continued without making the game any simpler in a meaningful way. I enjoy MESBG, Adeptus Titanicus and the occasional game of Star Wars Legion. Also, Star Wars Shatterpoint scratches a lot of itches I missed since quitting WMH mk2. Maybe because Shick and Pagani are involved 😅

my thoughts exactly. i started on the 2nd book escalation. spent fortunes. supported the game for what was around 15-20 years or however long. they go radio silent for 3 years during the pandemic to return and say. hey your main love and faction. we dont give a crap. its done. no Menoth for you. And up to then. i was ok with every move good or bad they did in previous editions. often arguing with friends about it. but now. they will never have me again. Idiots are clearly now running the show. We should have seen this coming when they started losing all the good Dev's one after another. Now its a clown show.

Long-time WarmaHordes player... Mk I was amazing, and while Mk 2 addressed many issues, it just created more... and then the shark jumps of Battle Engines and Collossals?Gargantuans. Lost interest when Mk 3 was announced, even though they did have a lot of cool stuff in the pipeline at the time. Infantry has never been balanced properly for points, and thus was always the superior option to jacks and beasts... the things that truly drew me into the game... I hated the lazy process that makes two units of single-wound infantry 5/8 points, where in reality one unit could reasonably be expected to have a worth closer to 7/10 while the other unit has an actual expected worth of 3/6. Mk I was slightly better with this, as well as not requiring strictly-set unit sizes (min 6/max 10, etc.). Still, loads of cool, or at least interesting, memories. If I could find a gaming group for it, I would definitely go with Malifaux. Way more interesting in almost every respect that makes WMH a good game, without the shark jumps.

This isn't really true, though. Some Warcasters favored infantry, some warcasters favored and supported more Warjacks. Circle, Legion, and Skorne all had many leasts that were almost all beasts and quite strong throught the lifetime of the game and Trolls had at least 1 or 2 warlocks that supported all beasts pretty well. Warmachine factions tended to favor infantry because their infantry was so much stronger, but even that fell by the wayside a bit as the meta shifted in lat eMk2 and in Mk3 there were a large variety of lists that went both heavy on infantry or heavy on jacks depending on the caster and theme. Units also in Mk2 could be 4/6 points, 5/8, 6/10, or a few other combinations, but the count was 6/10 in terms of models (unless they were heavy infantry in whcih some had 4/6 and others 3/5). There were also a few units that had wierd numbers like hte Krielstone, Sentry Stone & Mannekins, Woldstalkers, Gobber Bellows, Gatorman Pot, Kayazy Duos, Choir, Beasthadlers, 3 man trio units, sniper teams, artillery teams, etc, so it wasn't quite like you depict it. Then of course there were solos. Agree about Malifaux, though. My favorite game with no community.

I find it much more complex and strategic than both 40k and Warhammer Fantasy. Though the lore, while not bad, is definitely inferior. Also, factions are more original and creative, less "classic" than in Fantasy. Also, the same models in the same list are played much more differently depending on which Warcaster you play, which is really nice.

Warmachine was great when it was just warjacks and casters. Once they started including on infantry they warmachines got lost in the mix. Not sure Warmachine is that much cheaper than 40k. Some of their prices are a little crazy. I do like the figures and the gameplay.

I think it was just Warjacks and casters before it was really a game. At the official launch of Warmachine (20 years ago) there were units and solos. If you mean like game size where all you take is the intro box then thats another story but the game has always had units in it.

I was interested for a while and even have a starter kit. But the game disappeared off the shelves around me so there was no way to supplement the forces. I have a hassle with ordering on line because the Sydney Aust Post and Startrack (Aust Post parcel delivery) are likely to return any order on average one in three times. Hey they already got the money so it doesn't bother them.

@@sven8633 Lol, I didn't discover the game until the end of MK2. In my local Games store they had a full wall of MK2 stuff and 2 days a week for playing Warma/Hordes. When MK3 came out everyone was supper hyped but people didn't like it and sales went so bad that within a year they eliminated the whole wall to put up Board games.

Some of the best lore in any tabletop, in some parts rivaling even 40k's lore. Some of the best production value books. Some of the best looking models. Also a (mostly) great system. Also one of the worst companies to depend on when it comes to continuing relevant support for their systems. New editions to the wargame that also almost rivals GW bs decisions for the IP, and they couldn't continuously support and stick with a system for their RPG if their lives depended on it. Like many, I vowed never to give them another dime after they abandoned support for their RPG outside of token articles in their magazine, just to kickstart (yes that's how bad their finances had become they had to kickstart) a new RPG to ride the 5e bandwagon...and a really terrible conversion at that.

@@coldconcept1 it's not a bad game, but you will struggle to find players in most FLGS and I don't think that is going to change. Outside of the US you will struggle finding vendors who stock the game and as far as I understand a lot of minis switched to Resin, which makes it even less attractive for many players. Most nerdy hobbies like TT and TCGs and Pen and Paper do have their monopolistic, genre defining main systems like Warhammer, D&D or MTG and occasionally smaller systems come along and get REALLY close to becoming a threat but then blow it. Fantasy Flight Games are really good at that ;)

Some vocal members of the community on social media can be quite negative and with Privateer Press not doing almost any marketing, it makes it hard for new players to find the game, if they do to find it appealing, and if they somehow still find it appealing then to get into it. We need more videos like this for sure because it's an awesome game. Super fun, always interesting, with some of the best models

Honestly, we played Warmachine/Hordes for almost 3 years at my LGS. It became more and more competitive, to the point that the fun completely disappeared from our games. The powercreep led to a meta that we really didn't need... Finally during V3, the last players left for other games since (Conquest, KingsofWar...) Personally I was a Cyriss player, my army is still on display but I won't bring it out again.

Warmahordes died when the introduced gargants and colossals and didn’t make them FA:U. I remember playing the introductory game of V3, the guy ran Grunback with 2 colossals and I was running a Thyra fun list. That sucked the fun out of the game.

I played and promoted Warmachine all through the 2000s and into the 2010s, but man, 3rd edition has run this damn game INTO THE GROUND. Everyone bailed, and for good reason. I really hope we see some rollbacks to the unfun, whitewashed, braindead edition we just got.

I played MK1 since the start. Have 6 different armies/hordes. The change to MK2 points system and squad min/max made me walk away. Haven't spent a penny on this game since. Multiple shops in my area quit carrying their minus because of the fall off support for MK2. PP ruined the game by swinging the pendulum to far the other direction to counter power creap and thus they lost their chance to overtake WH. They also have gone WH by changing minis for the same models.

Former Press Ganger here. warmachine completely died in my area when they released mk2. haven't played since. Not a fan of them splitting the game into basically two separate games with the latest edition. one for all the old models and one for all the new models.

Ah, I have heard tales of the press gangers. It is awesome that you were one you guys were awesome as community leaders though I wish PP had treated the gangers better from what I have heard. A good 60% I'd say of the older models are completely playable in mk4 prime, with updated rules and abilities and so far they seem pretty strong balance wise. I might make a video about it. I am hoping to make warmachine seem more inviting to would be and casual fans, a game is only as good as its community! thanks for watching and commenting.

Thats not accurate description of how the game is split. Prime includes 2 armies for every faction. Prime is the "competitive" version of the game. Unlimited is rules for everything else. Unlimited will not be as closely watch for balance as Prime because they cant keep all models balanced in perpetuity. Every faction is in both format versions (but not every model from every faction). MKIV is pretty fun but I get why a lot people feeling burned by their favorite things not making it into Prime.

Nah, you shouldn’t be playing this game, I’ve played since mk1 a month before legends released. Entire game is based on gotcha moments and hard counters to armies that you lose before even setting up your armies. The Rock Paper Scissors meta got really old. Don’t get me wrong this game was amazing in MK1 and mk2 but notice it died a slow rotting death after the release of mk3 as they homogenized every faction and if you weren’t playing a theme army again you just lose. It’s too bad I loved this game but there are just much much better games and companies to invest your time and money into.

Secondary shilling. The game is dead, and will remain so if the laughable prices for Mk 4 remain unchanged. I hope you love paying £120 for a Caster, 3 Jacks and 20 infantry, all 3d printed too, because PP just love to skimp on the costs. Dead is a strong word! It is unliving... undead? It is alive but not yet as popular as it could be. The pricing is challenging which is why I started with some legacy stuff. I got some MK1 Cryx and also some Menoth. I hope to get a new MK4 army in the future, expensive as they may be.

@@coldconcept1 Ill be honest with yee man, seeing as your polite enough to respond, the biggest problem here is PP itself. Warmachine used to be thriving, its PP's decisions that killed it. Updating the rules in Mk3 to get rid of a lot of the cool stuff you could do (no more power attacks, cant shut down a Jacks boiler thy knocking it down in water, cool mechanics dumbed down, Cryx being overnerfed because metachasers cried hard, etc) as well as vastly increasing the army size from caster + 2 - 3 Jacks + 1 - 2 Solos + 1 - 2 infantry to something twice that size really hurt, especially when prices got jacked up. The real killer though was PP deciding that they didnt need distributers and dropping them, forcing players to go to them directly. Well, as a UK player, I took one look at the postal rates, laughed, and stopped playing. Then PP panicked and tried to shift the backlog in blind boxes, resulting in tons of stuff being resold, which tanked stores willing to hold onto their product as well. And now here we are, years later. PP does not seem to have learnt much. Mk4 will have legacy rules, but the current rumours have it that these are to be phased out, or more accurately just not updated and left to rust. The new figures are 3d printed. 3d printing is cheap as chips, and could in theory bring the cost of entry down to next to nothing. Instead we have initial price leaks showing absurd costs for 3d printed monopose models with the only upside being they are apparently going to license printers around the world, so at least they will be available in other countries. All being said, I have almost no faith in PP any more. Their track record is awful.

The current format goes for 2 Legacy armies for MkIV per faction, intended to get yearly balance updates for competitive play, and the rest available in the Unlimited free-for-all format . If there is anything PP has always subscribed to it is a refusal to phase out older models, sometimes to their cost. Distributors were never dropped (although many stopped buying from PP). The distribution network is slowly dying and has been for some years now, with warehouse space shrinking and large lines like Warmachine not getting restocked. Nationally where I am, a LGS has to act as the distributor for PP, Wyrd, GCT, Warlord, Corvus Belli, and a number of other companies because the large distributors just stopped delivering anything not connected to GW or Asmodée to small countries. The culprits were mainly Kickstarter, that undercuts boardgame sales through distributors, and the largest companies going to direct sales. Some distributors were also outright bought by companies like Asmodèe, which halted sales of any product not their own.

The game isn't dead but it certainly is struggling (has been for years). I definitely am in the camp that the new starter sets are a little on the overpriced side. However as someone who does 3D print a lot of their own miniatures I can say that there's nothing wrong with the quality that I've seen from them so far. I'm sorry they're old metal and resin stuff kind of sucked so I'm of the opinion that the 3D printing is an upgrade for them. Right now I think privateer press biggest mistake with this Mk4 rollout is the insistence of keeping legacy bottles and armies playable in this edition. I would have much preferred a completely clean slate to started out on.

If like myself, you are sick and tired of GW pushing Fomo, overpriced and overhyped (and often imbalanced) yet another space marine models. If you are sick of being a xenos player and had to wait for 8 years to get (a handful of) failcast models finally replaced by less customisable, more generic, sad excuse of an update, only to find out the new codex update made your faction toothless and borderline unplayable. Or if you are just plain sick and tired of comment sections filled with "all hail the emperor", "for the emperor", "purge the xenos" and "contempt is my shield, hatered is my sword" you should absolutely, undoubtedly play warmachine.

I loved mk2 but mk3 and the tournybros killed my love for the game though to be fiar the tournybros were just as bad in mk2 but... there were enough players that didn't think tournaments were all that so I could still have fun. Also as an aside I worked for a website called the warstore (now defunct) and I leard that PP had 3 ceos and one was great and the other two were morons that post horse skulls to d Deviant art or Constantly make side Games that they constantly abandon a year or so down the line I'm looking at you level seven the war machine card game and monsterpocolps.
