The 40 hour work week is perhaps the biggest scam of the century. While it made sense when it was originally formed, nearly one hundred years it has not aged well. In this video you'll not only learn about why the 40 hour work week is a relic of the past, but also what you can do to have your own 4 day work week even if your company doesn't allow for it.

No man, remote work is also a scam. It’s just another form of handcuffs. You’ll be doing the same job at the physical location, same job title, for 1/5th of the actual pay you’re supposed to be getting. And if you don’t like it, that’s okay, that company is already outsourcing your job to the philippines anyway + there will always be some useful slave who wants your laptop anywhere job. It’s still 40 hours in a job where you’re not growing any useful skills. You’re wasting your life away.
@XxSteamStreamxX
@XxSteamStreamxX 11 ай бұрын
@@batman6540This is how it has to start though, if companies have to pay you more for the same amount of work, then they aren't going to increase the pay for their time. Its similar to the difference between contractors and employees, contractors can take a higher pay because they are hired to do a job, while an employee is currently set to a schedule. Their pay account for the fact that times may be slow, so while there was only 6 hours of work to do they have to be paid for 8 hours

3 to 5 hours a week is all I put into work when remote. Every time I go into the office it's full of people doing everything but work, or they are on the same project for the past 3-4 months for basic stuff. There is zero reason to work 40 hours. Do what it takes to get the job done and be done. No office politics. No brown nosing. No BSing with coworkers. In my case, I get to spend more time with family and entrepreneurial pursuits. As mentioned in the video, use the time for what you want to do. Life is too short to do otherwise.

I went to a three day week (21-24 hours) as a (Senior level) software engineer when I was 30. Permanent employee, not contractor. That was 13 years ago and have moved jobs in that time, and had promotions. They basically trust me with full autonomy for the majority of my work to do what is worthwhile. Best thing I ever did - happier, do better quality work, and it’s a win-win for the company too and I don’t waste nearly as much energy on small stuff. Because of that, I’m now paid what the average engineer in my role would get full time too as the company also sees the value they get out of me as worth it. And yeah, so maybe 12 hours of deep work - but very intense and in a very relaxed way. The 2 days extra I get to not work is my ‘pay premium’ 😂

@@CodyEngelCodes thanks and yeah - 100%. You can't exactly buy time. Well, you sort of can - through convenience food and getting someone to do your household chores for you, but that's a hollow way to live imho. Far better to have four solid days off and cook yourself 😁 I think plenty could (get into my position) but are fearful of asking or scared of the effects it might have on their career. If you're earning 750k at Netflix or whatever, dropping down to 450k for three days seems like a total no-brainer to me if you can swing it though. It's still a truck load of money compared to almost any other career, even if you can't immediately retain your 'premium'!

I hope more industries follow similar patterns as there are so many studies not only validating productivity doesn't decrease from 40 hour -> 32 hour weeks but also improves employee's health, work-life balance, and mental health. At this point, the inertia from upper management seems very similar to the hesitation around fully remote workers. Knowledge work is based on outcomes and output. If you are meeting deadlines and keeping your boss happy then don't sweat it when you work fewer hours. If you are working at a place with "unlimited" PTO then I'd suggest trying to take some extra long weekends more frequently or take sick time if you have the sniffles and see if your performance suffers. If it doesn't then it's a good indicator that you don't actually need to work all of those hours.

I have a 37 hour week and today I negotiated to work 40 hours as of the following year. My goal is simply to make as much money as possible. In august I left the job I really liked and now drive 1.5 hours every day to work... all just to increase my gross salary by 47 %. Sure, I'd rather work 37 hours, but I need to make money and get ahead... maybe push 10 years, although I have to say that working as a DTP-operator is not the most stressful job in the world.

An excellent reason to not graduate high school and join the full-time workforce. Either pick up a trade or go to college. One day this hopefully won't be a requirement, but today it's pretty hard to get by with only a high school diploma and no other education (be it college or learning a trade).

Why do companies still require workers to be there 40 hours a week every week I work in manufacturing and some times dont do any thing for 2 and 3 weeks yet they make us stay an this is the same for a lot of people I've experienced it throughout my working life I often wonder how much this affects the planet huge factory buildings with all the equipment and lights on no one doing anything yet they still don't send people home.

The expectation is I get to work 40 only as long as my projects are on track and sometimes I get to work 50 plus half days on Saturday 😁. Honestly plumbers, construction workers, electricians, manufacturers, retailers, cleaners etc. people that actually make physical things or do physical services have to show up. I can’t say I guess I’ll do 30 this week.
