in all seriousness, dismissing the most popular fragrances of all time because they are boring and all smell the same is pretty ignorant in my opinion. If you really break down and understand these fragrances you would realise they all smell very different and there are plenty of ways to stand out. There are certainly elements or "DNA" of fragrances that are similar, but that is because they smell good and are mass appealing. Of course there is definitely room for niche fragrances and everyone should be encouraged to try unique scents. But one does not suck as fragrances if they wear the most popular fragrance of all time because it smells good.

@@willrussell3906that’s what happens when you look at fragrance through the same lense as fashion. At the end of the day though it’s all subjective, there’s plenty of evidence that suggests that plain old Dior Sauvage will get you more compliments than a super niche scent. I feel like this video is slightly pretentious. Paired with the provocative title, the suggestion that we should avoid designer scents because they are popular and, therefore, not unique is very narrow-minded. There is a lot of uniqueness in designer scents, and I believe exploring them is a crucial beginner stage to help your nose develop and understand the notes you like and dislike. They are also far more affordable and accessible than niche scents, so the natural progression to niche, as you explore designer scents, will help you make more informed decisions about the next fragrances you buy. Designer and niche fragrances are two different worlds, so comparing them doesn't work. That "durrr panda dunks bad!!" mentality in an effort to appear above people who enjoy mass-appealing items is very stinky. If you like it and it happens to be boring or popular, who cares as long as you like it? Unique =/= better. Walk before you run!

I will die on the hill that some of the most 'basic' designer fragrances like Bleu de Chanel and Terre d'Hèrmes are some stunningly beautiful beasts and will almost surely turn people's heads despite how commonplace they are now. There is a point to smelling unique, since our noses are very good at cancelling out familiar smells, but that doesn't mean smelling unique is always good. Also, some bottom shelf designer fragrances might get overlooked by casual shoppers. I personally wear Un Jardin sur Le Nil almost every summer day, despite owning some weird niche independent bottles. It is just that much better. It is an incredibly innovative blend of green and citrus notes with a heavy incense base that literally just takes you to the suspended gardens of babylon. Jean Claude Ellena is a master perfumer and artist for a reason. It often comes down to who is the nose behind a fragrance rather than which brand is slapped on the bottle. Mark Buxton (who is behind a lot of CDG fragrances) has done a ton of designer work. Francis Kurkdjian boosted his career with Jean Paul Gaultier's Le Male. Back then it was an absolutely insane twist to blend a barbershop style fragrance with sweet gourmand notes. To this day Francis keeps delivering wild out there fragrances like Gentle Fluidity Silver. So I agree with his point on being innovative and creative to a degree, but I don't think that has anything to do with designer x niche fragrances necessarily.
@rexeisen8290

I personally think you massively over emphasised the impact fragrances makes on other people. Fragrance should be meant as an accessory, just another mundane but playful way to express your style and just like you don’t see lots of people wearing avant garde garments in the streets you won’t see your everyday Joe wearing Zoologist scents. And that’s okay. Plus must of the niche brands not only are actually really overpriced, they’re very recent, meaning you’re investing money in a company that might not even exist a few years from now. Fragrances are having a small renaissance as of recently, it’s a trend, and just like every trend, it’s only a matter of time before people will get tired of it. In conclusion folks; sample a lot, but be smart about your purchases.

unique doesnt necessarily mean good, boring doesnt necessarily mean bad. it differs from culture to culture, people of my ethnicity in my country only like floral and fresh fragrance while another ethnicity like oud and amber sweet fragance. as long as it smells good to you or the people you meet, its good enough. I smell a couple niche and I can say that most people around me wont like it, neither do I. If I told them the price, they would have been scratching their heads on why one would pay so much for such a stinking perfume. even mainstream designers vs cheapies, sometimes cheapies just wins, I hate Terre D'Hermes, Sauvage a lot, while something as simple as Nautica Voyage get more compliments than most of the perfumes I got

Nice video with some intersting points of views but personally I think there is something wrong: - All the popular fragrances are made to be liked from most of the people, indeed "the mass" usually don't prefear niche fragrances. - I think it is useless to compare popular fragrances with niche ones, they are two totally different worlds and also niche ones have a much higher price so dear karsten popular fragrances are not chosen only for the smell (often done to please many) but for the affordable price. I like your videos but you often address a very narrow niche of people leaving no advice or space for those who cannot make the same choices as others. I greet you from Italy :)

I suggest you don't take this video word for word because i think you'll find if you fully explore frag YT this man isn't the best source. Not to say there arent those unique, groundbreaking bangers but actually the balance in between safe and unique is the golden ratio as to me and many, those that you will probably recognise the designer or perfumer but not the fragrance if you are in the mainstream eg. Stronger With You Absolutely Armani, La Nuit De L'homme Bleu Electrique YSL, Gentleman Reservee Prive Givenchy, Spicebomb Extreme Viktor and Rolf Etc. These are often scents that have a wide appealing note but also a tweak that helps the standout factor and performance. Niche houses like PDM, Mancera and Amouage are amazing also but are really going to run you for your money 😂

Why did you ask us “think about WHY do you want to wear a fragrance” in the beginning/end and then proceed to force opinions about “what girls like” down our throats for the entire video? What you say at the end is hypocritical of the stuff you say literal seconds before. Also, there is a reason why top brands still sell certain scents like Bleu de Chanel and Terre De Hermes; they were formulated decades ago and are timeless. Not all “mainstream” fragrances are deserving of your blindly dismissive attitude.

I would suggest some brands that are timeless and easier to get into like Frederic Malle, Parfum d'Empire, Miller Harris etc... The most important part of choosing a fragrance is one that smells good *on you*. Some of these avant-garde fragrances may smell "unique" and "cool" but actually turn into wet dog and pennies when you wear it for more than an hour. I personally don't like aftershavey fragrances like Sauvage, I'm more a Tom Ford type. But the important thing is that citrus, wood, tobacco and vanilla *smell good on me*, so something wild and interesting may mix poorly. I think Replica is a cool concept in line with the brand overall, but i also think Jazz Club smells like a wet ashtray. "Unique" can sometimes just translate to "who tf would wear this?"

Liked this video .I feel like I recently finished my fragrance journey and can agree with almost everything told in it. Two brands worth mentioning(IMO) are Etat Libre D'Orange- provocative and sometimes funny brand that creates really creative fragrances(my favourites are Rien and Fat electrircan however they all worth knowing) And second brand that I personally dont like that much but it is really interesting and I guess is better as a beginners brand is Histoires de Parfums- brand most of which fragrances are based on historical figures. Smells niche enough to be interesting but unlike Filippo Sorcinelli or Meo Fusciuni is kinda easy to understand ( my favourites are 1899-Hemingway and Irreverent ) btw if u like copper from cdg try la fin du monde from etat libre d'orange. smells kinda the same in the beginning but then it becomes more powdery

Overall a great video with some great points. While the vast majority of designer fragrances do smell like an Elfbar, there’s some gems in there. YSL’s La Nuit de L’Homme is one of them. It’s spicy, sweet, and pretty subtle in potency. Oddly enough that “European cokehead” had a big role in reviving it’s popularity. I’ve heard of quite a few CDG scents but have yet to try any myself. But if I could recommend one fragrance house it would definitely be Xerjoff. Start with Naxos and go from there.

I dont tend to leave dislikes on vidoes, but this was just some aweful advice. Genuinely bad. Designer fragrances do not all smell the same, and men's fragrances have a lot more variety than he gave them credit for. Women's perfumery has been prioritized for longer, but the industry is creating many more options for me. Also, insulting jeremy fragrance was uncalled for as he is a good person who has made a huge impact on the people eho enjoy fragrances. Calling him names is just lame and makes this guy look like a jerk. 👎 bad advice overall, and somewhat unlikeable personaluty displayed in this video. It's all really personal. I like warm spicy (cinammon, peppers, amber) and my gf loves wearing incense or herbal scents. good luck find yours!

CDG copper just smells like blood and rust, im not a fan, Concrete is aight almost bought it, CDG Ganja pretty underrated, tbh not all of the fashion brands edps are bad or boring favorite one for me is Moncler, it smells like pine its fresh, its strong but not pungent, sticks to the body for a long long time and fades beautifully into the clothes (underrated imo), got many people saying I smelled good compared to the Prada Luna Rossa Ocean that I use for more casual events which is way more simple. I dont really wear perfume for others but mainly for myself I couldn't care less about others opinions but when you get compliments for the fit, the vibe and the scent, validation is always nice. Ive been through this phase before, DENIAL. I was pouring a good bit of money into fragrance so you want to believe you are the best smelling in the room and completely unique to everyone else. The thing is i was starting to almost pretend to like scents just cause they were 'unique' or made me 'stand out' but in actuality i knew what appealed most to me Not to say the most popular are the best by any means, but theres a reason theyre the most popular, youll smell good wearing all of them and in fact by wearing a respectable, decent quality fragrance you've already surpassed the majority and quite possibly get noticed for it weather silently or communicated To me a well crafted, fairly complex designer fragrance tends to appeal the most, Aqua Di Gio Profumo, Dior Homme Intense Parfum, JPG Le Male Le Parfum, Spicebomb Extreme, Gentleman Reserve Privee and Prada L'homme type fragrances .

Seems like you're basing a whole lot on one person's opinion. It almost sounds personal lol. Designer fragrances are made with high versatility and mass appeal in mind. Practically everyone will like Dior Sauvage/D&G The One/Bleu de Chanel even if they have smelled them before. Compare that with stuff like Tom Ford Tuscan Leather, Tobacco Vanille or even Dior Homme Intense (or anything iris based). Only a small number of people will compliment you if you have those fragrances on. To some people they're downright disgusting.

there’s so many designers frags that go into niche territory with their smell this video is just prentencious

Not going to lie, I personally have preferred designer fragrances...however....I've also loved even more than niche houses, Indie houses (Seance, Poesie, etc). Indie house fragrances are really where it's at.

Not to be that annoying person but I don’t recommend margiela fragrances since they are funded by L’Oréal and the quality of them decreased compared to them having the line independently I do love their scents and the concepts but the price isn’t really justified for it anymore, especially since there are fragrances with better quality for a lesser price point But yet again, people should wear what they love and have fond memories attached to :)

You confused the accords like fruity and aquatic with notes like black pepper, cedar wood or amber.

I keep it old school. Brut, Clubman, Paco Rabanne, Polo. Some girls like them. Most girls don't. I don't give a fuck what they like. It's what I grew up with. It's what I like.
