The difference between NHL and SHL is distance: From Lulea to Malmo is 1500km, but the distance from Vancouver to Miami is 4500 km. NHL supporters from the away squad simply can't afford to follow their team from city to city, so nearly all the fans at nearly any game are home supporters. There's (almost) no tension, no dissidence, no animosity within the fans in the arena. Just in Canada, the distance from Vancouver to Montreal is 3,900 km, which is the distance from Stockholm to Azgabat. And trust me, I _know_ you have to Google where Azgabat even is.
@andreasforsgren4 жыл бұрын
No. The difference is that in NHL ”fans” go to the stadium to hang out with friends, eat popcorn, drink beer, etc. Its more of a show, entertainment. I see spectators in NHL who go to get a soda while the game is on, talking with friends not caring about the game, etc. That is MUCH less common in Sweden.

Standing area tickets are cheaper and better for fan clubs, because they are the people who are singing and cheering the most. It brings up the atmosphere and gets the fans closer to each other and is part of creating the fan society. In my opinion, every proper stadium/arena needs a standing area - at least 10% of the capacity. But you are right, there should defenitely be better seats and some premium level seats to serve all people. Not everyone wants to jump around for the whole game.

It’s a completely different culture and has to do with the teams and management as well. For north american sports it’s all about making money, you can’t even afford to watch a hockey game in large markets (toronto, New York) anymore as a regular fan. Majority of the tickets given out as season tickets, all owned by companies and stuff. That’s why the stands are empty at the start of the game and you see a bunch of shirts and ties instead of jerseys. That’s why the teams in smaller markets like Carolina and Nashville seem to have so much more louder and livelier crowds, because they have more actual fans in the arena.

1000x better experience in Europe, for sure. However, it's very disingenuous to use a clip for the NHL that's at like a quarter volume. Make it a fairer comparison and make sure the commentating is at the same level for both. If we hear them at the same volume, it gives a better understanding of how the crowd noise fills the broadcast. Now, I'm just saying that out of fairness. I was in Hamburg during an HSV at St Pauli exhibition match. Apparently St Pauli only just made the first league that season - from what I understood it was quite a shock to most. Needless to say the atmosphere around not only the stadium, but the entire quarter was just insane. No hockey city even comes close. Stanley Cup riots barely scratch at what I witnessed from an EXHIBITION match in Germany.

In Stockholm, it's easily possible that 50% of the supporters are for the _visiting_ team, and the supporters are continually egging each other on. Just in Canada, the distance from Vancouver to Montreal is 3,900 km, which is the distance from Stockholm to Ashgabat. And trust me, I know you have to Google where Ashgabat even is.

1:02 This is the first time I've seen pyro at a hockey game. I've seen a lot of clips of Swedish and Finnish hockey fans but never seen pyro like at a German football match!

The difference between NHL and SHL is distance: From Lulea to Malmo is 1500km, but the distance from Vancouver to Miami is *5500* km. NHL supporters from the away squad simply can't afford to follow their team from city to city, so nearly all the fans at nearly any game are home supporters. There's (almost) no tension, no dissidence, no animosity within the fans in the arena.
@Sch1zophren1a4 жыл бұрын
Real fans follow their team no matter what. Djurgården played against marioupol (Odessa, Ukrain) last summer, over 2000 fans traveled through all of Europe.
@MultiCappie4 жыл бұрын
@@Sch1zophren1a Odessa is only 1600 km and only one game. Return trip: 3,200 km. Edmonton has 6 games in the L.A. area _every_ _year_ , (Ducks plus Kings) and it's 2,200 km. Return trips: 26,400 km. Same division. Vancouver to Montreal is the distance from Stockholm to Ashgabat. Same country. Vancouver to Miami is like Stockholm to the border of India. Both teams have to make that trip annually. Come to North America sometime, I'll show you around. Canada alone is the size of Europe.
